My companion and I were in Chicago on some business and a colleague suggested prime and provisions. It is a traditional Chicago steakhouse with an educated and attentive staff. The restaurant was a little loud, but we did get there at prime time.We arrived for our reservation and had a slight wait as the party at our table decided to have an extra round of drinks. Can't blame them for that. My companion enjoyed the French onion soup while the table shared the thick cut bacon and some of the chef's daily delights. The daily delights are essentially the chefs choice and change routinely. The price may scare some, but it was definitely worth spending a bit for that. The drinks were classics and well balanced. The waiter guided our party to the proper wine, which was free flowing and very good. I ordered the roasted scallops as my main and was not disappointed. Three large scallops, perfectly roasted and seasoned. The sides are served family style, and we ordered the roasted brussels sprouts, chard, sweetcorn, macaroni and cheese, and broccoli. The sweet corn was wonderful. The brussels sprouts came with chunks of the bacon and the broccoli was well charred. Despite all protestations, we did finish with a nice bite of the carrot cake. It was a perfect finish to a wonderful meal.

We were curious about Prime & Provisions, a steakhouse located in the River North area.Their menu offers lunch, HH, dinner, and dessert, as well as an extensive drink list.We came here for a birthday get-together, and we had a good time. We started off with:+Grilled King Crab bites - with matsutake shoyu, lime, and bearnaise+Black Truffle & Potato Croquette bites - with perigord black truffles+Kaluga Caviar Potato Skin bites - with bacon, creme fraiche, and aged cheddarI had the Lump Crab Caesar, which came with little gem lettuce, topped with some lump crab and garlic parm breadcrumbs. For the main, I went for the 16 oz bone-in, hand-cut filet mignon. The steak is finished with Wisconsin grass-fed butter. As a group, we decided to get sides to share:+Creamed Spinach+Roasted Wild Mushrooms+Parm Cheddar Potato Gratin+Decadent Macaroni & CheeseDon't forget to request bread service for the table, as that is upon request only.We had a booth seating, which was comfortable and intimate, so definitely request for that!Service was friendly and attentive! The restaurant itself has a classy vibe to it, with its nice dark woods and iron fixtures. The chandelier is very pretty!Reservations are highly encouraged. Limited metered street parking in the area.+reservations highly recommended+request the booth seating+order apps and sides as shareables+friend service+metered street parking in the area

Writing a semi-negative review on top of exiting 1,596 mostly glowing ones looks like a fool's errand, but I have a duty to keep them honest! The food, the decor, and the service were impeccable. All the good signs of a properly run eating establishment, congratulation and thanks to all involved. Two complains are about the business side of things though. A minor one: the 34 Oz Tomahawk stake was apparently weighed in with the 1 foot cow rib, the real edible part was about 12-14 Oz - I should have asked. It was excellent, but a relatively poor value @ $210 a pop. Any other choice on the menu probably would've been better. And a major one: hidden 3% charge on the check. To quote the menu's really small print: "A 3% surcharge will be added to each check in order to support the rising operating costs affecting the restaurant industry." The charge was removed upon request, but it left a bad taste in the mouth, pardon the pun. I can write a whole sarcastic essay about the profitable virtues of deceiving customers first with artificially low prices and asking for donations toward "operating costs" later, but I'm sure you get the idea. Crying shame.

Food was great! ! I have to give this 2 stars though because honestly this is the first time I've felt racially judged. I was wearing black slacks and the front desk lady tried to say I wasn't dressed appropriately and gave me a weirdly hard time. It was so off putting to the point where I don't know if I'd ever want to come here again. The worst part is when I walked in, I see other people , white men to be exact, that were in clothing's like jeans and a sweat shirtsIIt felt as if she had negative assumptions about me, so unfortunately I won't be back .

Went with my family to celebrate a birthday and had a lovely experience. From the bread service to the chocolate doused bacon to our steaks to dessert, everything was great. Plan to go back again sometime.

Life is grand if you're willing to spend the $100 pp+ price tag. This plan B turned out to best one of the best dining experience I've had in downtown Chicago in quite some time. Add to that, reservations weren't made. I attribute it to the service and presentation of several items ordered.Smoking s'mores 5/5 A ball of decadent milk chocolate melts after butterscotch/caramel is poured on top, revealing toasted marshmallows, vanilla ice cream and graham cracker crumbles. If offered just the amount of crunch and was perfect for sharing. Whipped potatoes 5/5 Some of the absolute best whipped potatoes known to man. Caviar potato skin 5/5If you want to try caviar without breaking the bank, this is it. Lump crab Ceasar salad 4/5 Service separates a great meal from a truly memorable experience, especially at this price point. Kristina and Ricky exceeded all expectations. Their engagement, attentiveness, and genuine care transformed our impromptu dinner into an unforgettable evening. P & P should be proud to have such a remarkable team members. That said, the hostess was dry and anything but welcoming which is what you'd expect when entering. We were told there was no room in the dining room but when I checked OpenTable, it showed availability. However, we waited for a table to clear out in the bar area. Add to that, a couple entered with reservations while we waited and were seated in the bar immediately because the gentleman's attire didn't meet the dress code. The fact that they were seated ahead of us and we weren't offered the option to dine in the dining room in their place was rather surprising.

The ambiance reminds me of a chic modern Adam's family house. Very dark, white candles with wax burning and servers in suits- definitely one of the best steakhouses in Chicago for their exotic menu and classy touch. The servers know what to say when they are there but they are not that attentive which has been constant each visit. The food is amazing, pricey but very flavorful and enjoyable. Just learned about their happy hour which is a fun bonus and will be back for

Still very good, but inflation has hit. Oysters $1.50 and the drink and other food offerings have changed, but still a solid choice. Somehow we managed to spend $100 for 2 of us at happy hour, but it was delicious.

I've come into Prime & Provisions a few times and have never been disappointed. It's a great spot for a work lunch with a mostly professional crowd and fantastic service. Everything on the menu is great from the appetizers through the desserts. Getting the bacon as an appetizer is cool too because they light it on fire at the table which is a fun spectacle. Overall, I always leave happy and full and the price is very fair for what you receive.

This oyster & martini happy hour is always a hit with my girlfriends. Last time the two of us had 3 dozen and left wanting more. That's how you know it's good.
