I ordered the vegetarian tan tan men. It was a kelp and shiitake broth. I didn't ask for the soup to be spicy (I should have!) The soup itself was flavorful, but I really enjoy a spicy ramen. It came with bean sprouts, cilantro, cherry tomatoes, and tofu. Chili oil, chili powder, and sambal is available to spice up your soup thankfully. I ordered additional noodles and bamboo. The decor is a fun throwback that pays homage to the 90s Japan pop scene with cool toy cars and Japanese rock. Service was great, it was quick and the turn around for the food is very reasonable. I'd say within 15 minutes of entering, the food was in front of us. One thing to note is that mandatory 18% tip applied to the bill, I had no problem with it though, it's even kind of funny how it's on parties of 1 or higher. This is the best ramen in Portland hands down!

I liked the food last year so I decided to come here for ramen again. To my surprise, 18% gratuity was added to each meal. $17 ramen is not $17It's $20. Regardless of their service or attitude, mandatory 18% is added on. No choice. Of course I was gonna leave tips anyway, but it gave me an awkward feeling when I saw the tips were "required" instead of appreciated...

It's been a long time since we indulged into ramen. This place is typical ma and pop family owned and run place. The couple runs this place like a clock. I guess it's a couple, I did not ask, but looking at their actions I guessed it. The ramen was really good the broth was rich, creamy and delicious. The noodles were nice and chewy.I also ordered extra chashu and it was delicious. The egg was ok, I was expecting it to be runny, but it was little tad bit cooked over.Chicken Karage was not crunchy but good portion and tasty. I will definitely go back and try some more dishes. I would recommend this place to give it a try, you will not be disappointed.

This is one of the more rich and flavorful ramen broth spots in town. They have tonkotsu broth as the base, and since opening, they're added a few variety of ramen with varying toppings. (They also added a mandatory 18% gratuity, which is fine with me because on average I tip 20% and they don't pressure you to add any more than the 18% when you pay. So not sure why people get upset with the 18% service charge.) This time I tried the Sapporo Miso, which starts with the tonkotsu base but adds the richness of miso and then is served with ground chicken, corn, bean sprouts and cha shu slices. It was a filling and flavorful bowl of noodles. I love this little gem of a place, but I will warn you that it's on the other side of the tracks and undoubtedly every time I go on a Saturday for lunch, I always end up having to wait for some long ass train to cross before I can get back to civilization. So be warned! haha.

This ramen spot deserves more recognition. It's a cozy, family-owned restaurant with a charming retro vibe. I had the tonkotsu ramen, which is always consistently delicious--perfectly balanced with just the right amount of saltiness and creaminess. The seasoned egg was a highlight. The staff is warm and welcoming; the hostess let us choose our seats and attended to us immediately. Plus, we didn't have to wait long--the food arrived in about 15 minutes. Highly recommend!

Wu-Rons is the underdog of ramen in Portland! Tucked away at the edge of E Portland by Hawthorne bridge, it is away from the hustle and bustle of town. They are a small establishment with seating for about ~30 people. Going on a Saturday evening, the line was out the door the entire time we were there. There was just one person taking orders and bringing out food, yet she was friendly and hospitable. It felt like I was going over to a friend's house for dinner. The ramen was so good! I got the nagahama tonkatsu with thick noodles, which was pure comfort. The broth was rich, creamy, not overly salty, and the noodles were perfectly al dente. The chasu and pork belly were tender and juicy. They also have a plethora of chili sauces and seasonings to add to your ramen. I can tell they take pride in their work, which truly shows. Wu-Rons is the hidden gem of ramen in Portland, and they are not to be passed up! Life's hard, don't make it harder by not coming to Wu-Rons.

This isn't a typical Japanese-owned business. Tips greedily is not usual. The owner said he's from Japan. Shameful. Tips= good service. If not you don't deserve it. It's up to customers to decide. It was definitely better vibes couple years ago when it was different owner of this ramen spot.

I visited Wu-Rons with a good friend who is always in-the-know when it comes to the best ramen in town. Goodness... was she right! We each ordered the Pork Tonkatsu ramen and I couldn't have been more pleased. The broth was rich and flavorful without being too fatty or salty. The noodles were perfectly cooked with just enough bite they absorbed the flavor of the broth and held up until I ate every last drop. The portion size was just right! I'll be returning to Wu-Rons to sample other dishes on the menu.Parking can be challenging at this location. There is a tiny parking lot, but you'll likely need to fend for yourself in the busy central eastside location just off Water Ave.

Is this the slept-on, hidden jewel ramen destination that merits recognition? Yes. I love ramen, but I'd been waiting to be sufficiently wowed by a restaurant until discovering this little spot over on the East side. The highlights: I'm just going to get to the point and let you know that I would bathe in their sapporo miso tonkotsu. Call it dramatic, but that's how my reviews go. Rich intense broth paired with bouncy noodles and thick slices of pork create a swirling marriage of perfection. My vegetarian friend ordered their tantan, and while I did not try it (I was distracted by the bowl action in front of me), she confirmed it was probably equally mind-blowing. Salmon sashimi was also available, a delightful surprise and a welcome accompaniment. The kimchi was also quite good; consider it approved by this Korean. I also love the interior design of this place - the vintage posters and wooden walls swept my nostalgia back to afternoons in my grandparents' basement, sitting on beige carpeting and aggressively playing Pokemon Stadium on the N64.The improveables: Like many other ramen spots in town, a bowl is not "cheap". One ramen dish runs about $16-18.50. I guess is this the going rate of restaurant ramen in this economy, so there's not much to do about that. The alternative would probably be trying to make it at home, and there's no way that a powdered packet of chicken bouillon equates to the stocks and broths being made here. I also found that the service was a bit slow, which probably has to do with the limited staff on that day. Being a family-run spot (I think), it deserves a bit of grace. If you've ever seen the opening ramen scene from the 1970s Japanese film Tampopo, that's what this restaurant is like. It's a very good thing. Go here. Their ramen is like eating a hug, which is what a lot of y'all need.
