Trap Kitchen PDX

I was able to check out this place while doing an overnight in the area. It was within walking distance of the hotel we booked. It's located in a place that appeared offers entertainment shows. Bar seating and limited dine in tables. Customer service was good. Once we told them it was our first visit he shared a back story of the two owners. The choices on menu looked yummy we had the dishes in the photo. We were not disappointed.

Visiting from Virginia! Giving this place a 5/5 really just based off food alone, but I was a little annoyed at some minor things. I'll get to that later in the review. I got a carry out order of the drunken garlic noodles with lamb and shrimp and it was AMAZING! I'd like to add that I didn't even start eating my meal until an hour after I got it and it was still really good. I can only imagine how it would've tasted if I had eaten it right when I got it. Now here are some of the minor things I was annoyed with : I didn't know this place was located inside of a theatre or musical venue of some sort (I guess they recently moved?), but apparently there was a Macklemore concert happening the same day. There was a line of at least 250+ people that was literally wrapped around two blocks. My friend and I were a little intimidated coming up to the place, because we were thinking it was the line just for Trap Kitchen. Luckily, it wasn't, however, the guard at the door still tried to tell us we had to wait in the Macklemore line even if we were just getting food (we obviously didn't listen to him and just went to get our food). There's seems to be no separate line for the restaurant and the venue itself, so I definitely recommend them having a better system on nights of concerts. Additionally, the waitress/cashier was nice but she wasn't really knowledgeable about the menu so I think that could be a learning opportunity. Nonetheless, cool place with amazing food!

I didn't know I missed kool aid, so thank you. Sometimes comfort food is food for your soul. Soul food is just home food. It's a nice spot, the man behind the counter was just down right nice and friendly to make it a great experience. This place deserves more love from everyone in Portland.I'm not even mad at how much breading there was because it's exactly what I wanted. The syrup and hot sauce on a chicken that tears apart like butter, something about that nostalgic taste you can't beat. The prices are a bit steep, but it is what it is. Good portion at least, and good taste. I'll be back to try more.

Absolutely IN LOVE with this place. My favorite part about visiting Portland for sure. I ended up ordering the catfish poboy with a side of lemon fries. And for a drink I got the trap lemonade which comes in different flavors so I mixed together kiwi and passionfruit. My tastebuds were dancing y'all! The inside of the restaurant was also pretty lively, I think they do events every now and then which would probably be cool to check out but since I was visiting Portland for the day, I didn't get the chance to stick around. There's street parking available which you can pay for on the app. I would recommend if you're getting food to go, to give yourself at least 30-45 minutes because it did take a little long to get my food. But honestly it was worth the wait.

Excellent customer service and food. They have come a long way from their food truck days. The space is extremely big and they host all type of events. All our food came out fast and hot. Some of the best catfish I've ever had. Would encourage you to try if you haven't already.

If you want to try some really good soul food, you have to come down to Trap Kitchen!This place has the best fried catfish, wings, and greens.The flavor is intense. The wings were crispy outside and tender and juicy inside. Meanwhile, the fried catfish was incredible. The fish is tender and flaky, and the crust is seasoned perfectly. The greens and yams are very good. Not too too soft and not under cooked. The sauce it's cooked in is so good, you can drink it as soup.This is the best southern food I've had outside of Mississippi!

Saw the pics on Yelp and remembered seeing these guys featured on a cooking show a few years ago when they were starting out in LA. I ordered the Baller Box and 6 piece Hot Wings. The wings were meaty. The portions were generous, including the lobster tail and crab claws. The seafood was fresh. Everything was heavily seasoned and fried. Delicious.

A friend recommended this restaurant for when my trip to Portland. My expectations were high from what I have heard from others and seem on Yelp. I was a bit disappointed by my meal. I'll highlight what I did like. I ordered from DoorDash and the food came super hot and fresh. It was essentially like I had ordered in restaurant. I did ask for utensils and was only given one fork. Everything was packaged well. Now for the food, they give generous portions so items can be shared. Overall trend in all the dishes was an overwhelming amount of salt. I had the chicken and waffles and another one person in my group had the catfish dinner. We both were only able to eat a few bites before stopping because of the salt. The chicken was crispy and the waffle was sweet. The macaroni and cheese was decent, also very salty but seasoned well. 2.5/5, rounded up to 3

We were a large group from a conference that scheduled with this location and they were willing to stay open late to serve us. Upon arrival our group doubled and they were initially unprepared, but mid service other employees began to show up to expedite the experience. While the wait was long, because that was our fault, it was worth the wait. Before I get into how good the food was, let me shout out the chef that was initially in the kitchen alone and flowing!!! Did not skip a beat! We LOVED our food. Well seasoned, cooked to perfection. I got the fried salmon which came with fries and of course I grabbed some sides (Mac n cheese and yams). Eating this food was like having elevated home cooking. I am so looking forward to returning to Portland just to eat at this spot. No pics of food were taken because I got it to go and was nibbling mid meeting. But trust me... it is worth the visit.

Delicious catfish!!!!!! Fast, friendly service. And Plenty of leftovers. Can't wait to try again.
