Overall experience was alrightI like the decoration of the placeThe food is 7/10, I was surprised that there's actually a lot noodles and others food in 1 bowl, great to make your tummy full. But it's nothing special of the good that amazed me so I'm giving it 7/10The service is fine enough, we just enjoy our business to be honest.

Pretty good nothing overly special but certainly good. Nice inside, solid lunch spot, reasonable prices. I don't know if I would go out of my way for it, certainly 6.5-7/10 respectable stuff. Good service.

Having watched food shows over the last ten years like Chef's Table, Ugly Delicious (with David Chang), and anything starring Anthony Bourdain, I have been infatuated with the idea of Ramen. Until a few years ago, that meant dried noodles and a flavor packet in a plastic wrapper. For the last few years, however, I have been trying to make ramen at home. I started with homemade dashi, various veggies, a hard-boiled egg or two, and very thin noodles. Even more recently, I decided to try some ramen restaurants. We stopped for lunch at Tokyo-Ya on SE 82nd Ave in Portland. It was my first time there. The atmosphere is strip mall, but not of the squalid sort. It was, frankly, fitting. There is plenty of wood, hanging lights, and Japanese stylings. An odd, Asian-inspired version of "California Dreamin'" played on the sound system. It was not unpleasant. The follow up song was "San Francisco", originally by Scott McKenzie, done in the same style by the same artist as the previous song. It was not not unpleasant (double negative intended). The drum beat was exactly the same for both songs. Enough about the music. My wife ordered Goyza appetizer, and a side salad. I ordered the Miso Ramen. We asked for all of it to arrive at the same time. The Goyza arrived a full ten minutes before the ramen. The Goyza were browned on one side, and tasted very good. They were made of pork and chicken, with a teriyaki-like sauce on the side. The salad was beautifully arranged on a triangular plate, and came with a flavorful, but slightly sweet, dressing. The Ramen arrived amid high expectations. The first ramen restaurant we visited was Kenji's Ramen and Grill in Vancouver, Washington. I mention that because it set the bar very high. Their ramen came with marinated eggs, kimchi, and some spectacular pork belly. I could have sworn I heard angels singing in the distance. The expectations did not survive the comparison with Kenji's. Don't get me wrong. The Ramen was good. It was not, however, sublime. According to the menu, the broth is cooked for 12 hours - lots of umami, a little taste of sesame oil, and good miso flavor without being too sweet. The pork belly was sliced like bacon, and it tasted good. I got the thin noodles, which I like better than thicker ones in ramen. The portion was big enough for two people. I took some home. Overall, it was a good meal. You can certainly do worse. You can, however, do better.

I had a gift card to Tokyo-Ya. Located in the Eastport Plaza mall, it's not the most desirable destination. Easy parking in the lot. For a little under $50, we got two ramen bowls, edamame, sesame balls, green tea, and mochi ice cream. Everything was fine - decent noodles and broth, wish my spicy bowl had a more kick to it, good portion size. Staff was attentive. Service was quick. Decor was nice and the place was clean. In a city full of great ramen, this place would need to offer either a lower price point or a more outstanding taste to get me to become a regular.

Looks can be deceiving. Tried their miso ramen, only good thing about it was the lukewarm broth. The 2 pieces of meat were 90% fat, you get half of one egg and noodles were chewy (maybe low quality or undercooked?) Overall the bowl lacked the qualities of what I was looking for in ramen. Service was slow, the woman serving us didn't care to check in with us and it was a struggle to get our check, she saw we were obviously done with our meal but she would just keep going back into the kitchen and then gave us an attitude after we didn't want to take our food home

Food/Drinks: 1/5Below expectations. We order the karage, tonkotsu miso, and the tonkotsu shoyu ramen. The restaurant smelled of delicious karage but when actually got our it was suboptimal at best. The chicken was small, on the stringy side, fried dark, and was greasy. Both ramen's were on the watery side, lacked the umami punch, noodles were decent but lacking, and overall there are better ramen places in the Portland area for a comparable price. Service/Prices: 3/5Service was standard for any restaurant.Overall Comments: 2/5Unfortunately, Tokyo-Ya Ramen did not meet our expectations and we will not be returning.
