What a cute, welcoming gem this place is! The owners were both extremely kind and personable not to mention extremely hard workers! I came here for their Mother's Day breakfast which was served as a buffet style. They had so many wonderful vegan options to choose from. My favorites had to be both the apple fritter and the potato latkes. I will definitely be returning for a wonderful breakfast out.

We have walked by this place many times and it always seems empty, which is odd. A friend of mine almost had her wedding reception here but then COVID happened. We decided to give it a whirl for dinner. We arrived around 7:15 and there were only two tables dining there. After a few minutes, those both left and we were the only ones in the place. The interior is charming and kitschy. It was still daylight, but no lights were on in the place. We were by a window, but the back of the dining room was shadowy. I wanted to try one of the house specialty cocktails, so I had the Stalin's Revolt. It is basically ginger beer with lemongrass vodka and lime juice. It was very good, quite ginger-y with a bit of lemon flavor. If you are a fan of ginger, you will love this. My husband got a gin and tonic, he said it was fine but not very strong. My dinner was excellent. I had the two smoked turkey sausages with braised red cabbage and mashed potatoes. The sausages were flavorful, the mashed potatoes were creamy and lovely, and the cabbage was very tasty. Unfortunately, my husband's entree was not as successful. He had the beef roulade and said it was cold in the middle, like they had microwaved it but not gotten it warm enough. He also said the spaetzle was too chewy. I had tasted a tiny piece of the spaetzle and mine wasn't chewy, and had a great flavor, much better than spaetzle I had once in Switzerland. Our server appeared to be the owner. He was somewhat pleasant but a bit abrupt. I think this place could be a huge success, but they need more advertising and staff. The food is overall pretty good, it's worth a try.

Our first and only brunch was at The Slide Inn. It's a German spot run by a husband and wife combo. They have an extensive list of dishes that can be made gluten free.We dropped in on a surprisingly slow Saturday (around 12:30pm). There was only one other table that was dining in. The inside is funky with a fireplace (right at the front), an electic range of clock decor and a plethora of Keane paintings adorning the walls. Service was excellent and friendly. The breakfast menu consists of eggs, pfannkuchen and mehr, waffles, house made smoked sausages, burgers and pastas. Dishes are $10.00 USD to $18.00 USD. - Sausage scramble-house made turkey sausage, sautéed peppers with potato rosti and toast ($14.00 USD) - opted for the pumpernickel, which was nicely toasted, yet still soft. Everything on the dish was tasty. Turkey sausage was delicious and the potato rosti silky. Eggs were nicely done and had a good amount of red peppers mixed in.- Apfelschmarrn ($14.00 USD) - Austrian pancake (cut into small pieces) oven baked with an apple cinnamon compote. Smelled like apple pie. Warm, comforting and not too sweet.Cozy, comfort food at TSI.

Casual dining in an eclectic dining room with an amazing authentic Bavarian menu. We went for my birthday dinner (I am gluten free and he's not) and it was like a food hug. After high school I worked at a Bavarian restaurant owned by a family from Munich, and Eugene's food was a taste of the past. The beef roulade was fork tender and full of flavor and my husband wanted to lick his stroganoff plate clean. We followed it with salted caramel pannacotta and gluten free apple fritter. All I can say is I am in a partial food coma writing this on my way home. But be patient because it is a one man band for the front and back of the house, but 10000% worth the wait.

Ate here with my partner while visiting Portland. Took forever to get drinks. We were never offered refills. My entree came out 20 minutes before my partner's. I finished before he even got his. The dishes our food was served on had a black film all over them. My partner's entree was burned. He barely ate any of it. When we were presented with the check and he asked how everything was, we said not great and he just shrugged. Nearly $100 for a really horrible meal. I get that this is a one person operation. Maybe you need to admit the fact that the restaurant business isn't for you.

EAT HERE AT YOUR OWN RISK (read the quotes from their last health report on 2/1/2024).We left because it was so disgusting. I've attached photos of the mold at the bottom of the water bottle used to serve us water in. I'm fortunate as the only one in our party to not the drink water. I first noticed what I thought was ice at the bottom and thought that was weird, then moved the bottle to realize it was white and black mold. The utensils my partner received were dirty, the cups that they served tea in were sticky and gross. There was a layer of filthy film on the salt and pepper shakers. The server was wearing the most disgustingly filthy apron (later I realized he was also operating the kitchen). It's important that food is safe to eat. So many are immunocompromised, have liver or kidney problems. People shouldn't have to gamble in having a clean environment and safe food to eat. I filed a complaint with the health department and in the process learned this restaurant just had an inspection and barely passed with a 75 (below 70 is failing) and required corrective action. Here are actual quotes from the inspection done on 2/1/2024 by Multnomah County:"The person in charge has not demonstrated knowledge of foodborne illness disease prevention""NO RUNNING HOT WATER AT DESIGNATED HANDWASHING SINKS (TWO).""Food is unsafe, adulterated or not honestly presented, specifically: ***MANY FOODS IN THE WALK-IN EXHIBIT MOLD GROWTH.***""Raw or ready-to eat food is not properly protected from cross contamination, specifically: ***FREEZERS OF RAW ANIMAL PROTEINS ARE IMPROPERLY STORED.***""Raw or ready-to eat food is not properly covered or stored, specifically: ***ALL FOODS ARE UNCOVERED IN THE WALK-IN. CONTAINERS OF FOODS/TOPPINGS IN KITCHEN PREP AREAS ARE KEPT UNCOVERED. FREEZER STORING RE-PACKAGED RAW ANIMAL PROTEINS IN UNSEALED BAGS.***""Food-contact surfaces are not clean, specifically: ***CUTTING BOARDS, UTENSILS, EQUIPMENT HAVE BUILD UP FOODS AND DEBRIS, NOT CLEAN.***""Ready-to-eat food is not properly date-marked, specifically: ***NO DATE MARKING PRACTICED.***"Edit to the owners response - I'm curious what kind of black and white fuzzy food you serve that would get into a bottle? It was most definitely mold and it was disgusting. This was supposed to be a birthday gathering and people in our party were not in the mood for food after consuming some of the water that was poured from that bottle. And though you posted parts of the follow up inspection report done on 2/14/2024, I should point out that our visit was on 2/25/2024, 9 days after the follow up visit by the health department. Besides that, none of the issues in the original report should have happened in the first place. That is why restaurants are regulated and anyone who handles food has to be permitted to do so.

Came here for breakfast while visiting Portland and it was absolutely amazing. I tried the eggs Benedict, chocolate chip banana bread (gluten free/dairy free), apple fritters (gluten free dairy free) and sausage scramble. 10/10 for every single dish. Eugene (owner) was extremely considerate with allergies. I would definitely recommend to anyone! Both non gluten/dairy and dairy/gluten free options were delicious. The price is affordable and decor was nice. If you haven't tried already, make your way here!

If I could give it -5 stars, I would. This place is very, very weird.I went with 2 friends and was confused by the folded tables with pictures of the menu all of over them outside. Then there was a doorbell to ring for "service" and a strange man greeted and seated us.The inside is typical Portland "weird". No qualms with the decor BUT every table had a water goblet and silverware set on the table, with the goblets facing up. The goblets and silverware were grimey and filmy. Also tons of fruit flies milling about. The music was bizarre for a Sunday brunch -- European techno? It drove me nuts. There was one other table in the entire restaurant which felt really awkward. The menu is not easy to read, no descriptions of what things are, and just a word block of items. Our table ordered coffee, orange juice and mimosas to start. My orange juice was rancid, the coffee was cold and I refused to drink the water because of the goblets. When the server came to take our order, he was uninterested and rushing. I had some questions and he was condescending and rude in his answers. I asked for the "pancakes" and he said "which ones?" and I said "the apple ones?" and he said "which ones are those?" and I said "I'm not sure, they were on the menu somewhere (in the massive biblical text of offerings)" and he said "well I don't go off the menu so you'll have to be specific". So rude. I think I just pointed to something because I wanted him to go away. While we were waiting for our food -- for over 45 minutes, with one other table in the whole place -- he didn't come back to ask about refills or check in at all. My friends both went to the bathroom and told me if I had to go, I should wait, because they saw the kitchen and it was disgusting. Food came out eventually. Temperatures were off, whatever I ordered was doughy and not cooked all the way, completely unimpressed. Some things tasted funny even. We all desperately wanted this experience to end (even though it was pretty comical) but the server took over 30 minutes to come check on us after dropping our food. At this point, I realized the host was the server was the cook. Nightmare. When he finally came back, and realized we didn't touch any of our food, he didn't ask how it was or any questions. He just quickly wrote us our bill. I asked him if he was the only staff working and he said yes with pride. What a delusional man to think that was a good thing. Funniest part was when we went to settle up, he asked if we could pay in Venmo. Abso-fucking-lutely not. This place is a joke. I'm convinced he's creating accounts and leaving himself reviews. It's foul, food is disgusting, not clean, terrible service and not worth a penny. This place reminds me of a restaurant you'd see on Kitchen Nightmares where the chef used to have a passion but didn't know how to ask for help or accept it and then runs it into the ground. Based on his combative responses to less than 5 star reviews, he'll never take any accountability and this place will close one day and we will all be better for it.

I'm giving this place five stars because the food was amazing. The owner was nice and helpful. The only negative from my perspective in our experience was that the AC was off. This is due to how slow business has been. I don't know how they can turn this around - they have the product. They ran a successful restaurant here before (Il Piato which used to be one of our favorites).

Amazing good and great service! It's a one man show where he does everything himself, very inspirational and everything house made is top tier! You need to try the Austrian pancake and infused syrup, worth the wait for sure.
