Reminds me of some of my favorite bars I've patronized over the years. Dark and cool inside but not too dark.

One of the oldest places in Portland, this is a pretty standard dive bar though they sometimes have a DJ. Not much to say, it's okay overall.

Horrible service. My friend and I came in to play pool one night and we waited about 10 minutes to get drinks. It wasn't busy but the bartender decided to ask all the regulars if they needed a drink and do a bunch of dishes and other stuff before serving my friend and I. I still left them a tip but they added more to it before charging me, which is illegal. It was only a couple bucks so I didn't report it, but still, it's obviously a very poorly run place.

I only come here for the events they put on... But if they don't start following city rules for community events, they'll soon be denied permits to do so. Whoever is in charge of their IG page doesn't like it when a woman informs them how they're violating rules with their events... They act like they own the streets and discriminate against the general public on who can attend. Very disappointing. If the management is looking for someone to run their events, let me know ... They clearly need someone more competent

Old school dive bar to wet your whistle. Belly up to the bar or go play pool. The dive bar charm is still very much alive here, just how us dive bar connoisseurs like it. Creaky stools, stiff drinks, grumpy counter neighbors (and nice neighbors too!) Prices have caught up a bit here so the day of the cheap beer is gone but a cheap beer is a rarity now unless you like sitting at home. Which I don't, so cheers! Drink up!

This was my favorite and best little dive bar we were able to visit while in PDX after seeing a sold-out show out at the Pioneer Square. We showed up around 11pm and it was bumping with so many patrons and folks drinking and eating the night away. I was surprised to see how large this spot was after and also how cool and retro feeling The Sandy Hut made us feel right as we walked in.We had a really easy time, despite the late-night crowd, ordering our drinks at the bar as well as food. I was happy to see they had tallboy beers so I opted for a tried-and-true Lonestar tallboy (Hey! I am from Texas!) and a shot of wells whiskey. My guy ended up having a nice Old-Fashion which was deliciously made and tasty!Due to the crowd we sat outside on the small benches right off of the street side. It was such a nice night to not be outside so we were happy out there. DJ was spinning some classic tunes and people were really enjoying their time at the pool tables, conversations with one another, and some were dancing. It was a really great vibe altogether. This place is a true gem! Never change The Shady Hut! I love you exactly as you are!

My friends and I came here for the first time last night, and we enjoyed the atmosphere and drinks. We liked the dive bar feel and played some pool! Only thing we did not appreciate was one of the bartenders with a buzz cut was just a jerk ): we had only one round of drinks at that point, so it's not like we were being drunk idiots. Probably had the worst personality of a bartender we've ever met! I'll still come back but someone needs to give that dude a hug

I've been here several times since my original review... It just keeps getting worse. Bartenders act like they have100 people in line when there are 2. Everything is rushed and customer service (or manners) don't exist. They also play their own "ironic" hipster music and get ANGRY when you PAY for songs on the jukebox and then skip them. Like why even have a jukebox if you aren't hip enough to use it? The food menu also changed and it's more expensive with less options. I won't avoid the place, I just won't seek it out.

Whoever the bartender was that opened Friday afternoon 7/12/24 after their kitchen fire was so stuck up and rude from the second they opened. I totally understand it's been a rough morning but there is no reason to take it out on customers that have nothing to do with it. I haven't even received this type of service here so I was super taken back. I frequent this spot multiple times a week and hardly ever have any issues. I was super sad and honestly made me not want to return.
