The new menu is amazing. The burger with the 5 hour caramelized onions is awesome. Can't wait to try the other items.

A quintessential neighborhood dive bar! Came here to say how amazing the burger is! It is the best-example of a classic burger - lettuce, tomato, onion, quality beef, and the most perfect cheese skirt one could ask for. You don't need ketchup or mayonnaise, it's that good.

Lovely neighborhood dive with friendly staff and (almost) nightly activities: pool, karaoke, etc. it seems random but they got tasty Asian sticky ribs on the menu. Don't miss out on that!

Showed up here on a Thursday night around 10:30 for Nacho Week. I'm always weary about being 30 mins before close, and try to gauge the staff about ordering food. The gentleman running the counter was awesome, said they would serve food until they closed, and took my order. It took a little longer, but I totally understand, and it was well worth the wait, but more on that shortly. This place definitely has a "dive bar" feel, there was Karoake and what appeared to be a good amount of regulars. Seemed like a fun place, but I'm burying the lede....The Nachos!!! Best Nachos I've had so far! Chips, I doubt they were homemade, but better than the average chip. I'll admit, this way probably just the standard Nacho Cheese, but the Bulgogi was awesome!!! There was a good amount of it, it had great flavor and there was enough for almost every chip. This was also by far the biggest portion size i've gotten so far, might be double. As I was eating them, I was assessing if I could come back again before the week was out to get more!

The low-slung and unassuming Sweet Home Bar & Grill is a neighborhood gem! As a professional chef and food writer, I endeavored to spend (the Mercury's annual) Nacho Week chowing down on as many crunchy, crispy variations on the Nacho theme as I could. I was genuinely disappointed by the 3 out of 5 I tried; lackluster efforts would be an understatement. However, when I went to Sweet Home Bar & Grill, my faith in the tradition of Nacho Week was restored tenfold. First of all, this place is CLEAN - it's naturally dive bar dim inside, but your feet don't stick to the floor as you sidle up to the bar to meet - clearly, the fastest moving, most friendly bartender you'll ever meet, Crystal. Once I placed my order I took ownership of a table facing the door, yet strategically located for full reconnaissance once my eyes adjusted. The pool table, dining tables, barstools, video machines (and un-ripped-up chairs) were all in un-sticky, un-torn and clean! The music was 80's and 90's rock triggered my awkward college years, like a psychic, Crystal caught me staring off into the 'what if' abyss and brought me another Deschutes Pale Ale.My Nacho Quest was delivered to me in a large plastic tray under checkered paper: Bulgogi Beef Nachos. Tender, umami-rich rib-eye strips were layered on sturdy, freshly deep-fried tortilla chips and served with queso, garlic sour cream and (thankfully) the kimchi on the side. Trust me when I say, after disappointing nachos elsewhere, these were superb! Bulgogi Beef Nachos showed up like a 'just the facts, ma'am' and ended with a tip of the hat to my palate. High praise to Chef Steve Federlin for restoring my faith in Nacho Week. FUN FACT: I've been back a few times and I can personally recommend the Double Smashed Burger (phat and juicy) and the Steak & Fries (cooked to expectation with crispy, fluffy beer-battered fries). Now, if I could just get them to stop playing Christopher Cross...

Kind of a weird little neighborhood spot but it's charming. Bartenders are always nice. Pool, karaoke, decent sized smoking patio, lotto. Sometimes they don't have a cook and the bartender has to cook so make sure to be kind if it's super busy!

This review is for the food. This is your typical N portland dive, but apparently they just did a complete menu change and its fantastic. So used to the typical frozen crap that most dives have, but was the complete opposite. The portions were big too. This was better food than most nice breweries serve at half the price. I went with a smash burger with 5 hour carmelized onions. delish. Also the chicken strips, real pieces of panko crusted chicken? Wtf, where am I? seriously so good.

This is exactly what I've been looking for in Portland for the last 5 years! It's a dive bar with an elevated food menu. You can legitimately taste the quality of the food- everything tastes fresh, unlike the typical frozen to fried model at other dives. Great set up for watching sports, friendly, prompt service, low key vibe. The food is ridiculously good. Get the poutine- they use a homemade sausage gravy and instead of cheese curds, I think they're using smoked Gouda? Just seriously out of this world. Another favorite on the menu is the smash burger. I don't know what they do to get the cheese to be so perfectly melted, but oh my god, so good.

Salad came dressed with a ton of Parmesan mixed in with the dressing so it was all soggy and tasted bad; chicken wings heavily breaded and greasy and looked like they came from bantam chickens; menu said fries but I got undercooked tater tots. Yuck!!

Don't come to eat. Just drink and play slots. There's a pool table as well. It's really small. Plus there's no parking.

I had been to this place a few times previously and it was your typical North Portland dive bar. They are now under new ownership and I couldn't be happier with the changes the made. The bathrooms are now super clean, and their food is amazing. I got the Burger and it was so good. The 5 HOUR CARAMELIZED Onions are a must have and I added mushrooms as well. The burger had two big smash style patties, melted cheese and the perfect amount of lettuce and tomatoes. They put the caramelized onions and the mushrooms between the patties, which was an awesome veteran chef maneuver. It allowed the flavors to combine really well and elevated the burger to a whole new level. I went with the house side salad and that was great too. The home made croutons and parmesan cheese really made it. My girlfriend got the ribs and they were fall off the bone tender but also had a nice crispiness to them as well. Tasted like the made their own in house BBQ sauce as well. Overall the food was great and I cannot wait to come back to try the other menu items. The bartender was really friendly and new owner actually came out and chatted with us as well. It also looks like they brought on a bunch of new beers on tap as well. This is for sure going to be my go to bar now.
