The best bar we've been to in Oregon. Their service stood out the most to us. Service often is a make or break and can ruin a customers experience but they nailed every single aspect.Very attentive, knowledgable, and quick service. This place genuinely puts their heart into their food and drink flavors. They damn well know how to make a great burger and definitely can make any drink your heart desires. Some of our "regular" go to drinks they didn't have but the best part is, they know how to care towards your needs did not say "no we don't have that" and always came back with either something better or just as good for your liking.Atmosphere is uplifting and vibes are great because a lot of their customers you can tell looooove being regulars and it shows and we can definitely see why. We tried their "Shaku Burger", wings, garlic friend edamame, and furikake fries! Must try if you're ever visiting or live in Oregon. It was so good we went twice in one trip just because we enjoy it so dang much!!

Lots of patio space since they share with Petite Provence and they have different hours. Have a Japanese cartoon vibe going on with TVs playing cartoons from the 80s and tables have paper cartoons under glass. Ordered the pork katsu sandwich, sorry forgot a picture but it's huge. Hangs over the bun like an Indiana Pork sandwich. Liked the sauce they put on it. Oh and be sure to look at the online menu not the pictures. They no longer have tots. We asked and they said they got too expensive. I actually took one star off as I tried the fries, I did get plain, and they were pretty basic. Maybe that is why they offer to add toppings. Might be a better bet. I only ate around 4 and decided they weren't worth it so finished my huge sandwich instead. Husband ordered the Shaku rice bowl and substituted all veggies no rice. The tofu is the only protein that didn't have sugar so he added that. He really liked it, lots of unique veggies and a Japanese twist to it all. He was very happy. Looks like a lot of fun cocktails but wasn't in the mood this time. I would definitely come back if they add tots back. But for me the katsu sandwich is the main item I would go for so not sure I would personally get the fries so....

We stopped in for a quick bite before going to see a movie. We thought our bartender was fabulous! Great personality and super accommodating to some weird dietary stuff. He mixed us up some great cocktails. Plus the food was superb! The chicken wings and crispy chicken rice bowl were both excellent!

Decided to check this bar out after a long day of work and needing to rewind, spent an hour trying to find a place and this piqued my interest. Trent is an amazing bartender, was able to chat with him about travel, which made a very welcoming vibe. Place has nice ambiance, and has a unique bar menu. Amazing service, definitely a nice subtle place that should be more well known. Thank you Trent for making this experience memorable.

This bar is so Portland but in the best possible way (not like, the grungy way).I love it from the unique, Japanese-inspired food and cocktail menu to the chill vibes to the spacious dog-friendly patio. The bartenders/owners/operators were all super friendly as well. My boyfriend and I ordered the two sandos on the menu: the eggplant and pork katsu - both were good. Also recommend the furikake tots. My bf also ordered the Shaku taco, which was good but I felt lacked a bit depth of flavor (could've used a sauce or something to help round it out, not a big deal). Please please go to this bar because it's dope and it should become a Portland staple.

Props to the cool three owners that created this fun Japanese-inspired venue. Great drink menu and we definitely enjoyed the non-traditional pork Katsu sando. There was a lot going on with the cold noodle dish, very refreshing in satisfying your hunger in hot weather. Portions are more than fair, we didn't feel cheated. We enjoyed our Japanese cocktail. I look forward to working the choices. There's two pinball machines and also live entertainment on the calendar. Enjoy the cozy outside space that's shared with Petite Provence. I'll be tempted to pull over if I'm in Sandy Blvd. traffic.

Hot & new bar alert!Shaku Bar - pronounced shake-you, not shock-you - opened up in early May 2022. The name is the Japanese word for handshake. Started by three friends who are the owner/operators - you'll see them behind the bar and in the kitchen. They intend it to be a place where Portlanders can go to hang out, have a good time, and meet other people of all different types. In particular, the owners have a background in the service industry, so they invite anyone to come in on Wednesdays wearing their work uniform for happy hour all day long. Their regular happy hour is Mon-Thurs late night from 10 PM to 12 AM so that anyone working the dinner shift can still enjoy happy hour there.I tried two cocktails - the Matcha Rush and the Calpis - and both were good. But the stand out here was the food. The menu is bar food with a Japanese twist. I really appreciated that a lot of the items could be adapted to be vegan or vegetarian, which the staff offered and talked me through, showing how well they know their own menu. Most of the food is made in-house, sauces and seasonings and such. The burger was just delicious, and large. The tater tots it came with were so good and had a furikake seasoning. The rice bowl with tofu was perfectly spicy and had a lot of vegetables so it felt a little healthy. I'm eyeing their $4 jackfruit barbacoa taco for next time I visit! It's a relatively small bar off Sandy Boulevard. Parking is a little bit tricky. But it's a good set up, and a huge benefit is the large outdoor patio. With a smoking section, some tents for coverage, some heaters, and lots of space, this will be a great venue for all of the concerts they're planning to host here. Stay tuned to their website for that info!

This place hits! Went at 5 pm on a Friday for happy hour and the place while quiet at first became lively and full quick! The people who work there are friendly and full of energy. Cocktails are unique and delicious. Food is cheap and delicious! I had the spicy edamame, kimchi and rice, and tofu bites. Check it out!

Smash burgers are excellent, tasty calamari and a nice selection of mocktails. Full bar for those inclined. I look forward to trying the other items on the menu. Great vibes here, friendly staff and in the summer there is a large outside area for seating, and they host live music!

one of my favorite spots in the whole city. food is cravable, delicious and matches the host of amazing cocktails perfectly. The whole ambiance of the place is cozy and welcoming and the guys who own and run the place are always a blast to talk too. Any changes you need they are open and happy to help. Oh! and their shots are crazy good it kind of freaks me out how tasty they are lol.
