Looking for a place that will be worth the wait? This is that place. Is about a 30 mins to 45 min wait and let me just say that it was completely worth it. So many things you will want to try. We finally decided on Caramelized Banana Foster French Toast and Chicken with Waffle. Let me start with Chicken with waffles; DELICIOUS is an understatement. The waffle was cooked perfectly with the right amount of crunchiness. The chicken was the star of the show. Perfect crunchiness and cooked perfectly. Just so delicious! I would definitely get that again! 11 out of 10!Caramelized Banana Foster French Toast was very good as well! The whip cream was so flavorful. My only complain was that it was a little too sweet for my taste but it was still very delicious. It will hit any sweet tooth. The hype of this place is real. Definitely recommend!

Have been coming here for their famous, and rightfully so, chicken and waffles for years, probably since they opened. Rarely do I stray from my typical order because the entire reason I'm going there, is because I'm craving chicken and waffles! sometimes, we get a side of the candied bacon to share as an added treat. While this is still one if my favorite brunch spots, and I prefer the original eastside location, the last few times I was here I was a bit disappointed in my meal. Yes, the chicken is perfectly seasoned with a peppery bite, the crunch is spot on and the chicken is tender - but the size of the chicken breast has significantly decreased. No longer a large, plump piece of chicken breast that easily can satisfy for a meal while leaving half for lunch the next day. The chicken was very thin, more like a cutlet or a breast sliced in two. So thin, they no longer serve with the knife sticking vertical through the chicken and waffle because the knife won't stand up! Since Covid, this signature dish - which used to be three large chicken breasts over a waffle for $14.99 is now one thin chicken breast over a waffle for $17.00. You can get a 2 piece for $23:00 or three pieces for $28.00. That's a big price increase, which I was fine with, until the inflation was combined with size-flation. That's just not right.Service was still fantastic even though they were packed on a weekday at 11:00. We always sit on the covered terrace which is quieter. There is more seating indoors, but the noise level is extremely loud. Inside is all wooden tables and floors, so the acoustics just bounce everywhere. Outdoors is perfect all times of the year; they even have overhead heating and it actually can get too warm. Still a fave brunch place, but have to deduct a star over the size-flation.

The first time I was in Portland, I got brunch here with friends. We waited over an hour, spending the time at a nearby coffee shop, before we were seated in the outside covered area. I got the oyster po' boy back then, which was pretty good, but my friends got the chicken and waffles, which looked amazing. I swore to myself that I 'd get that the next time I went.Well, I finally made it out to Screen Door again several years later. It was a drizzly Saturday morning, so we beat the line and got seated immediately. Service was friendly enough, but it was somehow less frequent than when I had been sitting outside. It felt like I had to ration my water and coffee. The tables next to us didn't seem to have a problem, so maybe we were just unlucky? We were also seated right by a busy travel lane apparently, so I was pretty much jammed into my table. Unfortunate. The food mostly delivered. We got the praline bacon to start, and then split the chicken & waffles and fried green tomato benedict. The bacon was good, but honestly I don't think the pralines added much to it -- I would have preferred a crispier piece of millionaire bacon. It came pretty early, and it seemed like they expected us to finish it before the rest of our food came out. We wanted to have it with our other items though, so we just moved the remainder onto our sharing plates, so they could clear out the serving platter. The benny was great. I love a good fried green tomato, and I was worried that the hollandaise would sog it up. Happy to report that it did not! The dish comes with potatoes or cheddar grits; we opted for the grits, which were delicious hot.The chicken and waffles were sadly a letdown. The chicken was great, but the waffle was pumpkin spice or something -- not really what I was looking for! It utterly overpowered the syrup and the chicken. Not sure if this was a fall thing; I might come back to give it another chance I'm a different season. (But then again, the fall decorations were super cute...)Getting somebody's attention to give us our check, and then to take our card, was seemingly impossible. Bizarre, considering that by the time we left, there was a long waitlist.I'd come again, but maybe skip it if there's a long wait.

Stopped by the Screen Door before seeing Wicked this weekend. Glad we made reservations, because it was packed and quite the line had formed by the time we were leaving. Two of us had the chicken and waffles, one had the fried chicken plate, and one asked for the super secret chicken sandwich from brunch. All of it was excellent. The service was quick and friendly. The Sazerac was top notch. Can't wait to stop by again soon!

Screen Door Eastside is a great spot to enjoy Southern comfort food, and making a reservation is definitely recommended to avoid the wait. We ordered a lot to share, maybe a bit too much, but we got to sample a variety of dishes. The Cornmeal Crusted Okra was crispy and flavorful, and the Praline Bacon was a sweet and savory treat. The Black-Eyed Pea Fritters were tasty, with a nice crunch. The Chicken & Waffles, while a popular dish, was just okay--tasted good but didn't live up to the hype. The Huevos Rancheros were solid, and the Roasted Brussels & Fall Squash Hash was a great side. However, the Fried Catfish Sandwich was the standout--it was crispy, perfectly seasoned, and just delicious. Overall, a satisfying experience with a couple of dishes that hit the mark, but some that didn't quite wow us.

I came to Screen Door a few years ago and thought the chicken and waffles there was the best I've ever had so I knew that I HAD to go back during my most recent Portland trip. After having it again, I stand by my claim that Screen Door does in fact have the best chicken and waffles. The waffle is a sweet potato waffle, which is unique, but it complements the fried chicken so well. The fried chicken itself is well seasoned, very flavorful, and perfectly crispy. If you're a fan of spicy food like I am, I also highly recommend adding the house made hot sauce they have to the chicken; this elevated it for me and added the perfect amount of spice. The sweet, savory, and spicy flavors of this meal is just *chefs kiss*.During my last visit, I came on a Tuesday afternoon and there was no wait. The staff was friendly and attentive. They offer both indoor and outdoor seating. The ambiance is on the casual side, but gives off a cozy, homey vibe. Unfortunately, there is no parking lot so you'll have to find street parking. Overall, I highly recommend coming here and would definitely come back if I'm in Portland.

Where have sweet potato waffles been my entire life? Why aren't they all over the United States? Well, I am so happy that Portland managed to make these happen for me because they were just mind blowing. I had the chicken and waffles with the one chicken breast that was so large I don't know how anybody has more than one. The chicken was fried perfectly; the breading was so well-seasoned as well. Crispy and not greasy. The coffee was great and my server was so kind and friendly and attentive. I wish I had a place like this near where I live. If you're visiting Portland, you really do have to come here. And if you live in Portland, I'm pretty jealous about your access to this place.

Came here with some friends on a weekday morning. There were a few spots open on the outside patio where we enjoyed the nice weather and our food! Service was great, no complaints there. I would definitely recommend the cinnamon rolls - they were soft on the inside with some texture on the outside and had cream cheese and frosting. I'm not usually a huge cinnamon roll lover but I enjoyed these and would make a point to order again. Our server recommended that we eat it from the inside (most filling) to the outside. Rest of my food was pretty good too. The biscuit and chicken were the most notable on my plate. The breading on the chicken felt different than a fried chicken sandwich at most other brunch places. I made sure to eat each piece and asked for the gravy on the side. I probably could have skipped ordering eggs on the side (unless you're extra hungry)!
