An absolute no-frills dive bar with a knack for serving some great diner food.Came in at 1:00a after 14 hours of driving and delusion. Had a great 16oz of beer(or 3) alongside a pretty solid French Dip. Smoked a drag with some touring HxC band from out east. Decided to walk back across the bridge with no regrets and a full stomach. This all happened about a year ago now. So why write this now, 12 months later and 1000 miles away? Because I remember all of those details so fondly. Because it's worth remembering. A good restaurant may bow to your entitlement. A great restaurant is unapologetic for its food and its identity. It'll show you a good time and you can decide whether to roll with the tide or refuse the current. Thanks My Father's Place, see you again soon.

My 4 star criteria might not jibe with yours but if you're down with fresh cooked breakfasts at good portions with reasonable prices served with a smile and/or a smart-ass remark, then we can talk. It's definitely not anybody's idea of a highfalutin brunch spot; it could just be a downscale low-lit Dennys with a rock n roll vibe or - maybe more accurately - a dive bar with a breakfast obsession, but either way it works. Another bonus? The place is bipolar, with a bright retro diner tableau on one side and a dark, loungey old-school cafe feel on the other side (see above description). That's where I sit. And even if the coffee is your basic watery diner fare, I'll still vouch for the awesome egg scrambles. So good. It's a throwback to an older, less-shiny Portland, stuffed with eclectic decor and set on the bottom floor of a worn old building right on gritty Grand Ave. The joint has character (and characters) and to me that's reason enough to support it. Oh, and the place is open late - at which point it just turns into a dive bar. Which is no bad thing.

Day trip to Portland for daughter's birthday; this is one of her favorites. The service is top-notch. The food is good; big portions. Next time I'll try a Bloody Mary, and I'm definitely looking forward to another trip. I like the big window in the front, lets in a lot of light.

When you are hungry at midnight there are some options especially when you live in Portland. Bars need to serve food to keep selling alcohol - so bars will have always a bite. But fathers is a bit different it's a diner that also have a bar. Good thing you can have the full menu the whole day - even breakfast. I decided for pork chops and a side of salad. Impressive was the speed of service. The salad came almost immediately together with the ice tea. Good start. The pork chop came not even six minutes later. It tasted all fine - it missed some finesses but for a late meal it was all fine. The pork it self was a bit over but not to a mess and it had a good pan roast taste to it. The mashed might be of a package, the gravy was not just a blob so that was fitting. The veggies had some bite left. The garlic baguette could have been a bit longer in the offen but it was a good garlic taste. After all nothing special how mother would make it - but father did well!

Very cool interior. Small wrap around bar area. Bartender was slinging mixed drinks and it was impressive seeing them do it so seamlessly. Just your classic, low lit, dive bar. Open late. Cool spot but probably won't be back unless the opportunity arises randomly.

Great old school place for American breakfast. I had an egg white veggie omelette and their O'Brian potatoes. Very good. They have a bar side and restaurant side. This is clearly an old Portland place that's survived and for good reason.

This place is right near my hotel so I had to try it, and I'm so glad I did! When you go inside it really feels like your at your parents house. There were cute wall hangings & a homey feel. I decided to sit out side since the evening weather was beautiful. There were lots of patrons of every age & walk of life enjoying food here. The service was great & my server had a smile on her face every time she walked by. I had the best chicken sandwich I've had in a long time. This was even better than Popeye's famous sandwich. It came with a side and some pickle slices. The mac salad was made fresh and delicious also. I love the bits of dill in it. The meal was perfect & the atmosphere was great. I would definitely eat here again if back in the area.
