A total delight! We have a friend who avoids meat, so Indian restaurants have become the most reliable places for everyone to be happy. Maruti's atmosphere and service topped off the experience, making for a delightful lunch. The Tikka Masala with paneer was every bit as good as I had been led to believe. Naan, Daal Tadka and a Biryani rounded out our family style feast.Iced Chais and a Mango Lassi made excellent accompaniments to the food.Maruti is located on a stretch of Hawthorne where street parking is easier than it is in the 30's, yet another reason to look forward to returning here.

Note to self:Nice, clean and friendly place. Got the biryani -- insane amount of food. Easily 2 meals here. Best yogurt raita I've had; nice and chunky and fresh. The biryani could have used a little more variety though.

Disappointing Experience with Rude and Dismissive ServersMy recent visit towas incredibly disappointing, mainly due to the shockingly rude and dismissive behavior of the servers. From the moment we arrived, it was clear that customer service was not a priority.Lack of Acknowledgment: We were left waiting at the entrance for what felt like an eternity, with no one bothering to greet us. When we had to grab their attention ourselves, there was no apology for the delay or even a simple acknowledgment of their extremely rude behavior!

Wow, my buddy loves this place and we went in yesterday. So cute, intimate space with lots of small, meaningful touches.Greeted by the owner, who's just a unique and hospitable soul--and mixed a mean drink! Food is wonderful, and all plant- or-Indian dairy-based from what I could see, and it's just so well done. The Tikka is rich, spiced and luxurious. The onion fritters are the best I've ever had, and so well fried. Not greasy and I could see them traveling good.I would recommend, as we did, ordering some papadam (masala of course), for some crunch with your meal--just some advice, as all the velvet-like dishes are so, haha, like they are! I will be back to try the spinach-based curry! Yum! Hands-down, the most intentional Indian spot I've been to in Portland.

We ordered paneer tikka masala, chana masala, vegetable biryani and butter naan. There are not many places that offers authentic vegetarian Indian food. Their menu is short and service is quick even during those rush hours. The entree's comes with rice and portion size is good too. Small and cute place and I would recommend the to everyone.

Absolutely delicious Indian food.Though we like everything we've tried on the menu, our favorites include the famous tikki masala, which we order with all three ingredients -- paneer, potatoes, and mushrooms. One of our friends claims one of the most satisfying meals in Portland is a bowl of Maruti's tikka masala and an order of naan. We also like the mushroom biryani with raita, as well as the daal tadkaa and the palak paneer. Perfectly prepared naan. Gluten-free naan is also an option. The menu is small enough for the orders to come our reasonably fast, and the service is always prompt and cordial. Delightful ambiance. Get there early, especially on the weekends, because the tables fill up fast.

I expected the least and was still disappointed in the quality of the food.I ordered the bhel puri and the chana bhatura for takeout. I picked up the takeout almost immediately after it was ready. The bhel puri was entirely soggy with minimal additions, the chana bhatura was extremely mild and watery, and the bhatura was fried for far too long and therefore not fluffy at all. They also forgot to pack the rice for the chana bhatura.

Small vegan Indian restaurant. The food is delicious albeit vegan. Once of the unique dishes served as an appetizer was the Bhel Purri - a Bombay (Mumbai) street fair that's extremely popular with the locals. We tried Indian beer and also an Indian wine - do yourself a favor, skip Indian wine :-D (I tried Indian wine at another restaurant too so take my word for it)The place is small so reservations are recommended. We've been thinking of trying it out again but this time with another couple so we can share a larger number of their dishes. Indian is best done family style so that translates into it being ideal if your party consists of four or six.
