I got the grilled chicken bowl durning the week day lunch rush. The food came out quickly and the staff is friendly. There are outdoor tables and larger tables inside. The chicken was grilled and fresh. There is a layer of melted cheese over the rice, it really made the bowl. The bowl was overall flavorful and tasty- definitely hit the spot, even without the chips it was quite salty so grab a drink. There is a sauce bar, make sure to stop by before you leave.

Check out all the brilliant colors on my plate in the picture! The food was as pretty to look at as it was delicious. When the 2 taco plate was served on a giant plate with a scoop of guacamole and a pickled side garnish, it looked like a piece of art. Truth be told, the way to my heart is via salsa. All 3 of the self-serve salsas are full of flavor & color-my favorite being the orange habanero! The habanero didn't stop there, the habanero margarita was the best I've had anywhere, although the glass was filled from bottom to rim with too much ice. Even though I prefer an over decorated sit down restaurant with Mexican music in the background, I'll for sure return here because the freshness of the food is unmatched.

Some of the best Mexican food in Portland. They serve breakfast burritos all day (I add carnitas) and the burritos are massive which is always a plus. The carnitas pork they have is perfectly crispy, but not dry. Also love their salsa bar - I recommend trying the orange habañero and verde salsas. The salsa verde is to die for. I highly recommend La Bonita!!

Big Carnitas Burrito has been the best item I've had here in several visits. The meat has a grilled edge that gives flavor and texture. I like to take some home. It is a small dining room with a couple tine tables outside, but you can order for take out and walk to the Oerlook bluff for sunset. Have someone else set up a picnic table and bring a beer cooler.

Standard fare here that's better than other places I've been to in Portland. I got the Al Pastor burrito and they gave me two green and two red sauces to go.The burrito was packed -- but mostly with beans and rice. There was an acceptable amount of meat inside, but not as much as I'd like. The sauces were really good too, so be sure to stock up on those, but again, be warned that if you're looking for a meat intensive meal, this will not be it. As for the meat itself, it was nice and crispy, but it didn't have that sweet pineapple taste that you usually want with Al Pastor. Overall, a good go to place, but not something I'd seek out over other places, to be honest.

So I tried this place based on the reviews and it's MID at best... As a Mexican raised in Los Angeles the salas's didn't have enough flavor almost as if watered down, the meat didn't taste season it was bland, the guacamole taste like pure lemon, and the person at register seemed so uninterested.. if you're starving sure come here but if you want flavor I suggest visiting another place.

We wanted to try mexican food in portland and this was definitely it! The tacos and enchilada were delicious! It's a little small and you have to get your food yourselves but overall would definitely go again!!

The food at La Bonita is pretty good; on par with most of the many Mexican sources in Portland, including food carts, drive thrus, and fast food places. I'm irritated by being prompted to tip at the counter when ordering and then receiving below-average service, and feeling that I over-tipped. The method of ordering at the counter, picking up your food at the window, and then busing your own table is the standard for McDonalds and other fast food chains. These venues call themselves "stores"; not "restaurants". In a "restaurant", someone takes your order, brings your food, and buses the table. I had to ask for a lime wedge for my Corona, twice, and the cashier handed the lime to me rather than putting it in the bottle. The dinners don't include chips and salsa; these cost extra. Dinner for two cost us nearly $70.00 including one Margarita, two beers, chips & salsa, and the tip. There are better, full-service Mexican restaurants where we could've eaten for the same amount or less.
