J & M Cafe

Been a while since last visit but like a good tradition, once you're in it, feels like home. Same mugs, same beautiful art (Andrea Schwartz-Feit), same reliable crispy home fries! Ordered the Biscuits & Gravy bc that's what I craved. The over easy egg added to the "gooey goodness" when combined with the taters! Overall flavor of B + G was flat, biscuits were flaky enough, decent meat to lava ratio, but kinda sad it wasn't mouth watering. . .The Host and Server were kind, had her eye on my care, kinda nice getting my own coffee in my favorite mug. . . and I realized this breakfast tradition will come again, definitely do the Chorizo Scramble next time.

This quaint little breakfast spot was a hidden gem. The food was delicious and seasoned well. The bacon thick and crispy. With plant based and vegan option. I had the Mediterranean and I can't wait to go back for another round. My partner in foodie adventures had the 2 egg breakfast. The chai latte was perfection, not two sweet and not to spice. The sever and owner is so sweet. She even share the type of jam and where to get it.

Excellent food, service and price. A perfect spot for a casual breakfast/brunch while we were waiting for our car to be serviced at a local Subaru dealer. Excellent service was provided by a very friendly and accommodating staff. I highly recommend this local southeast Portland cafe.

Loved how they use coffee in their ice cubes instead of water!Everyone loved their meals. I got the banana bread which was super delicious. Loved the ambiance and the service was good, but if you are in a rush don't go here, it's a little slow.

Cool cafe on the east side of the river with ample seating including outdoor. Good service even though just one person was doing everything FOH. My veggie scramble was impressively delicious. My son said the chicken sausage was bland and not really a sausage at all. Other than that, we loved it and recommend this place to anyone wanting good food in a quirky cafe.

I rarely write reviews. Lovely inviting space, always busy but never crowded, staff is wonderful, good coffee , and I must say the Garden Scramble was absolutely delicious. Honestly I did not expect a veggie scramble it to be so yummy.

Great little joint. Friendly service and decent breakfast options. Wasn't in the best part of town but close to the hotel.

I like a lot of things about J & M (the location, as there aren't a lot of breakfast spots nearby, the mug you pick out for coffee, friendly staff, nice ambiance, how it feels like old Portland). But I do think the two egg breakfast on the menu needs improvement. I love home fries but the potatoes aren't salty or crunchy enough and are a little oily. I also found the bacon to be a little thick/fatty (although others might like it that way). Eggs were perfect. Anyways, everyone loves a critic.

The J&M cafe is the cafe you wish you had in your hometown. The food is fantastic, has lots of flavor, and is the perfect portion size to fill you up. Seems like they use quality local ingredients too. The service was great, they weren't in your face but always there if you needed them and super friendly! Such a fun hidden gem I am so glad I found.

This place is not to be missed. Quaint little cafe with amazing food and great service.
