Came here with a couple of friends who have significant food allergies. We were really excited to try out things we knew were safe for them to eat. This is a cute cafe style eatery with significant space inside and shaded and unshaded seating outside along the sidewalk. While it is spacious inside, the seating is mostly 2-tops and bar style seating. It would be difficult to bring a large group here, but seems like a good spot for a health conscious couple getting weekend brunch. I got the outlaw scramble and the mushroom steamer, and my friends got the biscuits and gravy with a side of tempeh and the Mac and cheese with chili. My friend who got the biscuits and gravy was very impressed by them. She shared a bit with me and I have to say it was pretty good. I might even like it better than regular biscuits and gravy. She also shared the tempeh with me, and it was probabbly the most flavorful item there. Quite tasty. It was sweet and umami and had a great mouth feel. That said, I really regretted my own order of the outlaw scramble. It wasn't very flavorful, the raw kale was jarring and a weird contrast to the other textures, and the eggs weren'tcooked very well. There was supposedly jalapeño sauce on it, but it was not spicy at all. It also wasn't a scramble; a scramble usually involves cooking all the ingredients together. This was just eggs on top of all the other ingredients, which had not been cooked. It would have been more accurate to call it a bowl.Even the mushroom steamer was bland. The spices were nice and subtle, but there was no hint of the puff coffee or the cardamom agave syrup. It just tasted like lightly spiced almond milk.My friends and I also all felt as though the staff here felt inconvenienced by our presence. The person at the register seemed mildly annoyed that she had to talk to us when we each placed our orders. There was also no check in to see how the food was after it was dropped off at our table.Overall, I found the service lacking, and while some of the food was very good and all of it was very healthy and offered lots of options to people with food sensitivities; some of it was unpalatable and poorly described on the menu. I might give this place another try to see if I can find better items on the menu, and I know my friends will be back, but it's definitely not high up on my list of places to eat.

Food is good, casual ambiance with no service. You order the food at the counter and then bus the table yourself. I enjoyed my jackfruit garden scramble in pesto. It reminded me of the jackfruit torta I love from another place. Food is good and a must try especially if you are vegan. However, because there is no cleaning, the tables are generally untidy from the food residue.I hope they add some cleaning at least. PS: They do have eggs in their menu, however, if you want just the whites, that is not an option, which seems ergonomic approach from the chef's perspective but I did find a person on the next table complaining about it.

I was craving a good vegan mac and cheese, so I'm glad I was able to find one here! I've been eager to try this spot for a while because I love health conscious foods and drinks. Along with the Hawthorne Mac, I ordered the Rising juice. The juice was a mix of naturally sweet fruits and carrots with a hint of ginger. The Hawthorne Mac had a pleasant cheesy flavor that is reminiscent of a real cheese mac and cheese. There was a nuttiness about it that made it unique and added a bit of crunch for some extra texture. It was quite large so I was able to get at least a couple meals out of the one serving. Next time, I would love to try their bowls!

I found Harlow through Yelp and I am so glad I did! I needed a break from the usual food options like pizza and burgers. I was looking for veggie filled goodness and that's exactly what I found at Harlow. I ordered the pesto garden scramble. It had quinoa, farm fresh eggs scrambled with seasonal vegetables, roasted yams, potatoes, cauliflower, broccoli, mushrooms, & kale with a walnut basil pesto. I opted out of the roasted walnuts on top. The serving size was a lot larger than I expected. It is a splittable dish. I enjoyed all of the different flavors and textures in this bowl. The pesto was a great sauce for all of the veggies and eggs. I loved this bowl! I also ordered the flamango smoothie. It came with strawberry, mango, banana and almond milk. It was refreshing. The interior of Harlow is really cute and inviting. It has lights, plants, and wooden tables. There is also bar style seating. Parking is street parking and we were lucky to park right in front. The employees did not greet us or say much to us except take our order. I loved the food at Harlow and would definitely return. It's a great option for vegan, gluten-free, and healthy food!

Gluten free review: Welcome to funky, fun, good feeling Portland! This place is fun and feels friendly. They were very knowledgeable about my allergies and when they didn't know, they were happy to look it up. No making you feel bad at all! They were happy to help. Both meals were delicious! Thank you Harlow for your along food for everyone!

I've been eating out so much that it's that time again to watch what I put in my body. I decided that I needed more greens in my life, so I thought I would pop into one of Portland's more popular plant based cafes and juice bar. I ordered the Betty Bowl with their house made lemon ginger dressing. The Betty Bowl is grain based (quinoa or brown rice) but full of kale. This bowl definitely met my expectations in my health food checklist and tasted great. I also ordered a smoothie to go with my meal, which really brightened my day. With food like this, I can be converted to a vegetarian. Lol, I am not going to though, there's still too many food options in Portland to try. If you feel the need to replenish your greens or at least feel good about what you put in your body, I recommend Harlow.

Wonderful order at the counter, food brought in a jiffy, homemade and tastes like it is prepared with passion and love, wonderful period music at a nice low volume, quiet, plenty of seating opening at counter or tables. Bus your own table and serve yourself water and take out boxes. Prices reasonable and quality healthy food .EAT THE BISCUIT!!!!And try the bowls and smoothies and breakfast!! So many CHOICES!!!

This place has some unique and healthy food options. Not many protein options besides eggs but salads and grains dishes are seasoned well and supplemented with tasty sauces. Smoothies are also good. I tried the pink flamengo smoothie, which was good. It didn't blow me away but it was a good simple smoothie. I also got the urban bowl and miss read the menu. I wish it had some grains in combination with the greens but it was a healthy food option for the area. My wife's food choice, the pesto green scramble, was better. If I were to go back, I would try another scramble or get that pesto scramble dish. Good luck with the street parking when visiting this location!

Food here was amazing. I truly have no words for how good it is. My friends and i came here two days in a row. We all came from seattle and no vegan/vegetarian restaurant here could compare. Also if anyone if turned off by it being gluten free it truly is not even noticeable i didnt even realize until my second visit.Service is quick and its not too expensive. We def want to come back on future trips

Casual counter-service restaurant, nicely decorated and cozy. The menu is mostly vegan except for a few dishes where they use eggs. They have good options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The service was okay. Not the friendliest staff but they weren't overtly rude or anything. My food came out quickly enough. I had to remind them about my drink which then took another minute or two but that's not a big deal.I got the seasonal pasta (butternut squash, mushrooms, spinach in sage cream sauce), a ginger pineapple soda, and a no-bake cookie. The pasta and soda were really good. The sauce was super rich and had a texture that I loved. It was a pretty big plate but with lots of vegetables so it wasn't just a massive pile of pasta. I liked that the ginger soda was more zingy and dry than sweet. The no-bake cookie was not very cookie-like, it was really more like a (cookie-shaped) chocolate bar with seeds and dried fruit. Very dense. It was too big for me to finish the whole thing in one go. It was okay but not what I expected, which is kind of my fault for not taking a closer look when I picked it out. They do have some "regular" (baked) cookies which looked good.Overall my impression of the food was positive so I would definitely come back if I lived in Portland.
