Eastern Cathay Restaurant and Lounge

I got takeout on a Thursday evening. Excellent food, quick service, very affordable. The owner answered honestly when I asked if I'd ordered enough for two people. We got the Very Special Combination plus sweet & sour soup and salad rolls. (What I would call egg rolls). The sweet & sour soup was DELICIOUS and heavy on black pepper. There was another couple waiting at the same time who were regulars for years. I think the 3-star average is from people who don't like the unhoused population that used to take up the parking lot. There's a fence up now. Eastern Cathay has a nice neighborhood feel. I look forward to ordering from them again.

I tried to order over the phone. the lady who answered was very rude and would not take out order. told me to come in and order and said she didn't have orange chicken. but told me to come in to order orange chicken.

The owner/ server is the rudest person , clearly unhappy,She treats customers terribly . if ur not happy do something else!! My partner was trying to make my birthday special and we stopped for take out . It was unreal how disrespectful this woman treated her paying customers on the phone . And then started yelling at us because we asked for extra sauce because we ordered 12 pieces of fried shrimp . I was laughing because I was completely shocked . it was like we were in a SNL skit or on a prankster show or something....... It's the customers who help you pay for your run down out dated place of business u should be more grateful ! The food was actually really decent but the experience made it taste like the worst thing I ever had

I've been coming to Eastern Cathay for over a decade.Their food is reminiscent of the Republic Cafe (NW Portland) in the good old days.I understand that the chef worked there...which might explain the resemblance.The lady behind the counter is always pleasant and friendly and the food is very good. Best Won Ton in Portland! The broth is outstanding! The fried shrimp are off the hook. The food is amazing! The lady who runs the place is friendly, kind and the best service.... If you're kind. They're working on cleaning it up.... It's looking fantastic. I love this place!Please flood her work orders!

Wow - this place has great Chinese food! My husband and I hadn't been here since it was Elmer's. The news did a story showing their difficulties with homeless. I'm happy to report there are no more homeless. I encourage everyone to come here for great Chinese food and support this wonderful couple as they work to fence the property and make repairs from damage caused by the previous campers. Butterfly shrimp are amazing. Brings back memories of Pagoda Restaurant in Hollywood District. Service is great!

Service was friendly, presentation was nice, but the food was overcooked and dried out. Some people like the restaurant's cooking, but I was left unsatisfied. I ate very little, so ended up hungry for the evening. I'm sorry to not be able to leave a stellar review, I wanted to like and enjoy what they cooked.

I ordered spring rolls and sweet and sour chicken to go. Food was very good and service was good. I would happily order it again!

The hosts/owner is the rudest person, I know she is very rude to her black customers. I never see any others. I just decided to spend my money else were because, I refused to pay to be scramed at yelled about in another language. I feel sorry for the cook. Fried Shrimp great!Customer service is terrible.
