If you love historic restaurants with a rich family legacy, Louis and Dan Oyster Bar is a must-visit. We had the pleasure of meeting Kai, the 5th generation "in training," who shared stories about the restaurant's histo. Hearing about his great-great-great grandfather's plate collection added a charming, personal touch to our dinner. The food was equally memorable. I ordered the sockeye salmon special, and it was perfectly cooked, fresh and delicious. The Parmesan oysters were another highlight - yummy and savory. You'll love it here.

The stuff was so kind and accommodating for a large party. The woman who worked our table was just fantastic. She had lovely pale blonde hair and pretty blue eyeliner. She talked to us and was so helpful and kind. The food was fucking epic. No one had anything negative to say about their dishes. The drinks are also all phenomenal.

Needing a bite to eat, we stopped out front of this place to take a quick look at the menu. After skimming it over I found something that I knew I would like and we decided this would be a good place to grab a quick dinner. When we entered we were greeted and asked where we wanted to sit. We didn't really care and let the host show us to a seat. It kind of felt like we were purposefully taken on a long walkthrough of the whole restaurant before shown our seat. Our drink order was taken immediately upon us sitting down and at that point of the day all I wanted was water. It was odd that the host served us our drinks, but it also felt like we were disrupting his day. Honestly, that was the only low point.Once we had time to look over the menu we were greeted by our server and our order was placed. After placing the order we were able to appreciate the seat we were sat at. Maybe that walkthrough was done to make the appreciation so much more. Where we were seated we had a wide view of the street outside without the noise and possibility of weather change. This is a great place to people watch as well. After a bit our food finally showed up and we started to dig in. I went with the Tillamook Cheeseburger. I know, why come to an oyster bar and not partake in the oysters. Well, short answer is I think they are gross and I'm allergic, so no thank you. However, that cheeseburger is a must in my opinion. You get three patties seared on the grill and then they are smothered with Tillamook cheese. The bun is toasted and it is topped with lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle, and thousand island dressing. Think Big Mac with an extra patty, a ton more cheese and so much more flavor than you would expect. With this you get the choice of fries, coleslaw, or salad. Of course I went with fries. This was a behemoth to eat, but I managed by cutting it in half and taking my time. It was a filling meal and definitely something I would get again. After we paid and were heading to the door we were stopped once more. I assume that the gentleman that stopped us was the owner or manager of the place. He was pleasant and asked us how our meal was. He also made it a point to encourage us to come back.

This is a true old man bar+restaurant. With the almost 'where everybody knows your name' Cheers feel as my daughter joked, Dan & Louis is a maze of a bar+restaurant with a couple of small secret rooms throughout located in the Old Town Chinatown area by the Willamette River in Portland. My daughter and I came here out of pure luck when we grabbed some donuts at Voodoo to bring to NY and noticed Dan & Louis' easel showing some of their Happy Hr selections. Unlike some places offering Happy Hr at the bar area only, you could actually sit anywhere and STILL take advantage of the low-priced menu. Dan & L. is decorated with half burgundy/half forest green color walls, lots of nautical pieces and frames. The space feels cozy and quite truthfully, all it needed was a roaring fireplace. The guy shucking served as a host and server with terrific energy- and so was everybody else. Our $24 dozen Washington oysters had a nice feel and taste. But our measly fish in our tacos had a heavy dredge on it and took away from the meatiness of the fish. To add, tons of cabbage is added to fluff up the meal. Aside from the tacos, my kid and I felt this was nice choice before my flight the next day. And dozen oysters for $24? It's all good- considering a full dozen in NY is gonna set you back way more than that.

We came here Mother's Day weekend because my mom was in town and she loves oysters. We were NOT disappointed. We had the shrimp Po Boy (delicious) and clam chowder (delicious) fish sandwich (delicious) and salad (basic salad but yummy). A couple drinks (alcohol & non alcoholic and all good) and some oyster shooters for my mom. Everything was great!!! Our server was super sweet and attentive! We even had the person who made the oyster shooter come up and tell us about it before my mom ordered. She loved it. The dining is pretty big, lots of indoor option and a little outdoor option too. We will come back :) No photos... ate too fast :(

We visited Dan & Louis Oyster Bar during their Happy Hour. We went specifically for the oysters. We also made a reservation, but when we got there, there were plenty of tables available. We got seated immediately and got our drink orders taken within minutes. The Happy Hour prices seemed pretty good so we ordered a beer, the 2 orders of the oysters on the half-shell, calamari, and fish tacos. The restaurant was warm and inviting, definitely had a nautical vibe to it. We were seated near a corner window, which was nice since it was a rainy evening in Portland. Our food didn't take too long to come out. The oysters were delicious. We enjoyed them all! The presentation wasn't the best, which I know is a big deal for some people, but it isn't important to us. We care more about the flavor, and we were pleased. The price was amazing, of course, for Happy Hour. The calamari was good, and the fish tacos were okay. Overall, the ambience, the happy hour price, and the food, make it a place worth visiting!I would love to come back for more oysters and try more items from their menu. I'm keeping this place in mind for the next time I'm in Portland and craving some good raw oysters!

Overall it's a cool spot right in the heart of China Town located right down the alley from Voodoo Doughnuts. Now their seafood is very Sub-Par, the chowder went downhill from what it use to be, they don't have many selections to choose from honestly, Oysters are probably the best way to go considering it's in the name of the restaurant Service here is horrible, always so slow and constantly have had problems with my checks either being overcharged, or their system being down (I've experienced this multiple times). The younger people who work here are great it's the older people (possibly the owners) who don't know good service The ambiance of the restaurant is nice, it definitely has an old seafood tavern feel to it before you walk outside again to homeless people shooting up drugs right outside the restaurant... Welcome to Portland!
