I got the Havana bowl. It was awesome. It's got pork, sauces, caramelized onion, black beans, avocado, two different types of plantains, mango, an orange peel, and I got mine with yellow rice. And I love all of the different flavors, textures and colors. What a great dish. The pork was great. It had a good amount of crispiness, juiciness and it didn't have any tough bits of fat or connective tissue that are hard to chew. Everything was either crispy or soft and melt-y. Perfect. One of the two types of plantains I've had before and is probably what you're used to, but the other type I've never had before. It is really crispy. I think they must batter and fry it or something. It was so good. I appreciated that it didn't come out oily. The bowl is $14.95 and had a good amount of food. I have a huge appetite and it did a solid job of filling me up. Pretty good value. If I were to nitpick maybe I'd ask for a little more food, but it was fine. The menu does say that plates come with more food for a few extra bucks, but they don't include the avocado and mango. The vibe there is pretty cool too. Lots of room to sit. Outdoor and indoor. Cuban vibe.Overall I was really happy and definitely plan on adding it to my rotation of places to eat at.

What a great find on Hawthorne! Hawthorne is a quintessential Portland street and Cubo de Cuba adds to the variety! A fun, colorful restaurant, Cubo offers indoor and outdoor seating - perfect for all the seasons of Portland. Their menu features bowls, plates, sandwiches with various proteins and sides all with Cuban flair. I got the spicy mojo shrimp bowl with black beans, tostones, maduros, avocado, mangoes, and rice. It was flavorful, well-seasoned, and the shrimp was juicy and not overcooked. Kinda gave me taco bowl vibes but Cuban style, in the best way possible!! Great flavors and presentation. Don't overlook Cubo de Cuba on Hawthorne. Its colorful interior and bright flavors may just make your afternoon!

Guava chicken plate Very tender, chicken was cooked perfectly, very well seasoned- yellow rice was tasteful, sweet potatoes fries were seasoned and fresh. Beans were nothing special. Ropa Vieja plate Pork well cooked, seasoned, veggies pared well. Empanadas Guava and cream & Beef Fresh, hot and fillings were fire Wish they were bigger Garlic aioli sauce was 10/10 I was dipping everything in that Price Point was ok, could have been a bit easier on the $ but food was good Would recommend

I love cubo de Cuba. Perfect time to go during happy hour with affordable cocktails and $5 side. I recently tried the vegan bowl and addicted to the yummy flavors mixed with the vegan "chorizo." Love the beans and rice. Lots of great sides like yucca and maduros that I enjoy. Also, great cocktails like the guava margaritas. The staff are always so kind and the sauces they make are delicious and vegan.I love how there's a patio and it's perfect during the winter and summer.

Walk in and hear the music, let it take you to Cuba. Red walls, teal trim, and freestyle community art gives this place a feeling that real people eat here. What do I love? Besides the good food (and itt is!), They clearly label what is dairy free and gluten free. I ordered the kids menu The Cuban on gluten free bread. I chose the savory fried plantains. The bread was really good and the sandwich tasty. I wish I had requested mustard or a sauce as it was MAYBE a trifle dry. Maybe. Then, I had drinks. The Classic Margarita was exactly what it should be. It had simple, genuine ingredients and was well balanced. Then, I decided to try the Coco-Rita. This is a margarita with Coconut Cream. OMG! Try this drink! The sharp flavor of the lime and the creamy coconut are perfect together. I was here during the street fair, so my service experience may be atypical. They had a line for food and gave a number. Food was delivered to my patio table in a reasonable time. They also had a small bar on there patio where those seeking libations alone could skip the food line. Why mention the street fair? They clearly planned ahead and well to deal with thirsty crowds. I am sure they scheduled extra staff and ordered extra stock. This speaks to their organization and professionalism. Great place. Gives it a try!

I visited Cubo on SE Hawthorne Blvd for lunch on a sunny day. We got spicy mojo shrimp plate, cuban sandwich, and drinks. The plate was cost-wise great, offering a good amount of food for the price. Tasted good. There are plenty of indoor and outdoor seats. The colorful interior makes it vibrant atmosphere. Very casual. You order at the counter. The space for the entrance door to the order counter is pretty tight. They will bring you the food but utensils and water are self-service.

We have ordered family style and catering trays from them a number of times. It is delicious and a good value for the quantity in the tray.

Stopped by for a quick lunch with my son. The Cuban sandwich had a lot of pork, very nice tasting and very authentic. I had a side of plantains, they were cooked perfectly. My son has the empanadas, they were good sized, they will filled with Ham. It is located in the heart of SE Hawthorne area. The staff here is always very friendly. We love the large outdoor seating section.

I wandered into Cubo looking for dinner after the Hawthorne Street Fair. The restaurant has bright yellow walls covered in graffiti, Latin music playing in the background, and a spacious, covered outside patio. You order at the counter, are given a number, then a server will bring you your food. Utensils, napkins, and takeout boxes are on a table, so you get these items yourself, and you will also need to clear off your own table after your meal. I ordered the picadiilo bowl, tostones, and a guava pina colada. I was brought a plate instead of a bowl, but the concept is still the same...Picadillo, black beans, rice, tostones, avocado slices, and chunks of mango on the plate. While I enjoyed the picadillo, I wished it would have had a bigger portion and been the star of the plate, but there was more rice and beans than picadillo. The tostones were good, but I feel they needed a dipping sauce, like a banana sauce, or something. Imagine eating French fries without ketchup. You get the gist. My guava pina colada was delicious, creamy, and perfect for the hot summer day. Overall, decent food, fun drinks, and a colorful experience.

I went right when they opened so i had the whole place to myself. I ordered a cubano sandwich and it came with tostones (fried plantain). The portion was big so i could only eat half. It's very tasty. Your order at the counter and get a number so there's really no service. They also have utensil and water station set up for self-serve.
