Attended their Drag Brunch and really enjoyed this place! The food is great and the drinks are some of the best I've had in Portland. The bartenders have a ton of personality too. Order a mimosa flight on a cross! This place has a bunch of old reviews from prior ownership that Yelp should honestly remove. It's a much different place with the new owners and it's doing them a disservice by pushing their rating low. Places like this are what makes Portland a unique experience for visitors. The Kerns neighborhood is a fun spot and this adds to their eclectic vibe over there. Love Church Bar!

THE POLLS ARE IN. And I'm not trying to make fun of Polish people. Burger Weeks burger goes to CHURCH BAR!!!! The Upsidedown Pineapple:You are looking at a 6oz patty that was hand pressed after being weighed out, so it has the fun shape of a commercial burger that you'd get at a fast food restaurant. The amount of cheddar is generous compared to most restaurants which directs your focal point to the freshness of the brioche bun, the clarification of the butter when said buns were toasted, and the overall petite presentation of combined flavor without too much reliance on the raspberry chipotle BBQ sauce. And we aren't even halfway through the ingredients. The pineapple fried in pancake batter is everything you love about getting fried shrimp at a Chinese restaurant. As the sweet flavors mentioned above dance with the freshly sliced jalapeños and pickles, the bacon super-charges the umami equation, acting almost like coconut in a tempura batter. It is evident that the chef/lead cook spent some time at a few reputable restaurants from the orient and spent a good amount of time sulking over the deep fryer. Which brings me to the fried shoestring onions. They are exactly the size of your shoelaces and fried to perfection. The assembly of this burger totes these ornaments pre-cooked to perfection to keep the pineapple hot and fresh. Here are my only criticisms:Allow a 3 dollar up charge to sub out an IMPOSSIBLE patty. You could call it The 11 burger. Hell you already got the upside down in there. If you decide to put it pridefully on your menu as you should, here are a few suggestions...Sub out the jalapeños for serrano peppers. They are cheaper, easier to cut, and have more elasticity/shelf life.Sub out the cheddar for Swiss and flat top it to the pineapple so it has those same brown edges that's on your bun. Don't waste your time shaping the patties. This burger sings. Enjoy it for two more days for now.... BEST BLACK BAR IN PORTLAND!!!

The church bar is always fun to be since you cannot miss their theme. Ok well I'll have to confess not on a Sunday since that karaoke night haha. But that's a totally different topic isn't it. I love the church as well for their food when you crave a small snack or an impossible burger. But also cause they always have some changing ice teas - so bring your sober friends have your beer or drink and then you can enjoy their alcohol free items. The barkeeper are always friendly and will find something you like. I had the upside down pineapple burger a special burger on the menu let's dive into a slice of pineapple fried in pancake batter, jalapeño's, pickles, cheddar Cheese, fried shoe string onions, bacon, beef patty with a raspberry chipotle BBQ Sauce on a toast brioche bun.Told you they are creative with drinks as with the burger Let's get this out of the way. Yes you can argue if pineapples belong on a pizza (yes they do) or not. But the church bar makes one thing clear there is no question a pineapple belongs on a juicy burger. This one has a spicy kick to it from the sweet raspberry chili jam the slice of the exotic fruit is making the whole burger a juicy experience and the crispy onions are giving extra crisps for texture and tastes. All in all a burger to enjoy. So perfectly made to bad it's only a special bit a very delicious one.

OMG! Their Burger Week burger is spectacular! Not a skinny smash burger thank god! Clipped from everout: A slice of pineapple fried in pancake batter, jalapeño's, pickles, cheddar Cheese, fried shoe string onions, bacon, beef patty with a raspberry chipotle BBQ Sauce on a toast brioche bun. So good! To me it's a perfect blend of sweet and spicy. Oh! And they have a killer shot and a beer special! Heaven! lol
