Rashi T. "Sushi is my love language and I will climb mountains to get it ..but too bad that's too far from where the fishes are . Well good for me that Yama however is located very conveniently in pearl and hence its an easy drive . We came in around 8 ish and were seated immediately. The Yelp page says they close at 10 but on weekdays its 9 so be aware of that .However for weekend I did see people come in as late as 9:30 pm .We ordered right away and got - LovejoyYama RollFlaming jack Flying fish roe and Hamachi Nigiri The food was delicious and arrived quickly . Apart from the Flaming Jack everything was bang on . We also got sake that our server recommended . Service is good and friendly and prices at par with other sushi places."

Mercedes C. "After driving my daughter the days after her surgery around town, we really wanted to wind down on a Friday night and enjoy a seafood dinner at Jacqueline in Portland's Clinton area. But, we didn't have a res., it was a 45 min. and, we were hungry. Without walking too far, we noticed Yama. No res, 10 min wait, seated. Bam! After you walk past all the folded napkins by the waiting area, Yama Sushi & Izakaya opens up to a dining area with neutral color walls, dark woods, some black touches and paper lanterns. My daughter started with 'Salmon Butter' that had 2 salmon chunks, asparagus, sautéed enoki and the tastiest spinach. The plate was delicate from start to finish. My Miso Cod was another highlight with the most tender fish and wish I had another piece. My kid had a Lobster-topped roll that was feast on the eyes. She enjoyed it, but I would've gone for the no-mayo on it. My Rainbow Roll with real crab was every bit satisfying. The succulent, velvety fish was a nice contrast with the crunchy cucumber, the creamy avocado and that real chunky crab. The rice is seasoned nicely with the right touch of sweetness and acid. Except, the rolls here have a lot of rice. Don't let that stop you- there are other selling points in the menu."

Autumn A. "Came here for lunch this past weekend. They were having a lunch happy hour which was 20% off rolls. Their prices are pretty steep so it ended up being the cost of normal sushi. Ordered the 1012 and the salmon tataki rolls along with an order of toro nigiri. Both the rolls were OK, one of them had a mustard like sauce that wasn't described on the menu, it was all over the roll and I think it took away from the flavors. For the price I thought there would be a decent amount of fish on each roll but the piece barley covered the top, didn't fold over the sides and was very thin. The toro was good, $18 for 2 pieces of nigiri which was a lot but I get that it's a sought after fish.. the presentation was great but unfortunately the fish we were served was borderline frozen. I felt the ice crunching in my mouth, the flavor was good once it warmed up but it was a letdown that it was icy."

John K. "Sho turned out to be a delightful place to meet up with a friend for a refined, delightful lunch. I had the chicken katsu bento box, which was everything I hoped for, plus it came with something I've never run into before - a light potato salad that I really enjoyed.Access to the parking lot can be a bit tricky, depending on traffic. Fortunately, you can get into the lot on either the east or west side of the building - the west entrance is farther from the intersection, so there's less likelihood of being blocked by eastbound traffic waiting for the light. The other access issue that I encountered was that the restaurant's web site is blocked by my security software. Not sure why, but checking the menu before my visit was a challenge. The atmosphere at Sho was also just what I wanted - quiet and calming. I find that this really adds to my enjoyment of a meal."

Mike M. "This was my first time experiencing a sushi conveyor belt. It was actually kind of fun and a scary quick way to pound a lot of food in a short period of time. Small portions of food and small color-coded plates move continuously on a thin conveyor belt. You grab what you want, when you want, and they add up all the plates at the end of your meal. Different color plates are valued differently from $1 or so up to about $4. You can still order more hot dishes to be served on request saving hot food from getting cold on the conveyor. The main thing to understand is the quality. It was decent...certainly nothing high quality. This is more of a slap on the feed bag place than quality sushi experience. Tables were left dirty leaving folks hanging out in the lobby looking famished. Beer and wine are served, the place is not gross and it's a cheap sushi meal. Meh...."

Nicole B. "Love their bento box combinations, and is my go-to bento box resto on this side of town. There's plenty to choose from and don't do what I did and order another side of sushi, it was too much food for me to finish, but hey I took the extras to work the next day. I got the salmon teriyaki and the sashimi, and everything was on point, and delicious. A bento box for dinner, and it only being $17, is a screaming deal, in my opinion. I ordered mine to go, sat down outside a few doors down at the Craft Pour House, and enjoyed my bento and a cold pint in the shade on a warm sunny day."

One of the highlights is that you can order by the piece, allowing you to try a variety of flavors without overcommitting. The handrolls are also great. While the calamari appetizer is on the smaller side, it's absolutely to die for it's crispy, tender, and flavorful. Overall, this place offers exceptional sushi that's well worth a visit."

Grace C. "Fish & Rice is a quaint neighborhood sushi joint with fresh fish daily and specials highlighting said fish. They frequently feature decadent poke bowls that are truly a work of art. While they may not be the most affordable sushi in town, their quality is phenomenal. They have a few tables for indoor dining and sometimes outdoor seating if the weather allows. It is counter service with self-serve water and utensils, but the waiter was kind and friendly. When we went, he was bussing, delivering, and taking orders. We got the neskowin roll, toro roll, and salmon poke bowl. The fish was so fresh!! It just melted in my mouth, and you can taste the quality. Presentation was beautiful, and you can tell they treat sushi as art. Their dishes allow the fish to speak for itself; nothing is drenched in sauce or extra frills. Cozy and homey, Fish & Rice is a gem in NW Portland. Forgo the other chain sushi joints in Portland, and bid them a visit!"

Nico B. "I frequent Ruby Spa at Edgefield, the next exit down I-84, so I initially came to Meeka out of convenience. However, I've returned time and time again because it's such a lovely experience and I'm always made to feel like family. It starts with a friendly "Irasshaimase," and continues with superb customer service and genuine interest in my well-being. I'm never disappointed with my dinner at Meeka. Most meals begin with their outstanding miso soup and their signature salad. Crisp Iceburg lettuce with slivered carrots, garnished by their show-stopping salad dressing. It's probably a simple mayo-based dressing with spices, but it's absolutely delicious and a refreshing way to start the meal. My favorite dishes at Meeka include:Spicy Scallop Hand Rolls: They are robust and filled with succulent scallops, a slice of avocado, and topped with ikura. YUMM! Honestly, I come here for this dish a miso alone sometimes and leave completely satisfied. Shrimp Tempura: I don't know how they do it, but their shrimp tempura are the best I've ever had. Crispy, juicy, and so big they are practically a meal by themselves. If you love tempura, definitely try the offerings at Meeka!I'm impressed with the kitchen's ability to pace dishes such that I never have everything arrive at once, or find myself waiting impatiently for the next course. The wait staff are very communicative and efficient. This may be a strip mall Japanese restaurant, but the impeccable service makes it feel like a high end establishment. I always leave feeling very appreciative."

Andrew A. "Hit and miss. First, the Korean (?) Sushi chef with arm tats was very personable, very friendly. Conversely, a Caucasian 20-something employee needs to attend a customer service workshop. When clearing plates he kept demanding, "move your chopsticks", in a command-like tone.Good place for specials and uncommon menu items. Enjoyed the Lobster Karaage, albeit very pricy. Likewise, the Roasted Shishitou Peppers were wonderful. And something as simple as miso soup is a cut above here.Unfortunately, we did not care for the four different sushi dishes ordered. The "brown-white rice was the consensus negative. The California Roll (don't judge, I like it even as a sushi enthusiast) was one of my least favorite of all the elevated sushi houses in Portland. I suppose the Green Godzilla 2.0 rolls were the best of the bunch.Good ambiance. But it's one and one for us."

Sarah C. "This biz has apparently been around a long time! They've been open since 1985, I think. I've driven by many times and finally got the chance to stop in. There is a small parking lot out front, shared with the other business in this tiny strip mall which include a weed store and a bar so it's often busy. There's a gravel lot to the side for overflow. Inside Takahashi, there is much more seating than you expect, as they have a back area. As a solo diner, I was seated at the bar which was not ideal. I didn't have a great view of the chefs making the food. There was also a fan running behind me (to prevent the neighboring weed store's smell from infiltrating, somewhat unsuccessfully). Orders can be placed by sharpie on a laminated menu, which I love. Staff was friendly and kept an eye on my water.Portion sizes per price were generous - I got a lot of sushi! I don't know if it was the highest quality sushi I've had but it was tasty and filling. I'd come back, especially as it looks like they do some promos and specials at different hours on various nights of the week."

The stuff is definitely attractive. I give them points for presentation. Pretty good rice to filling ratio. Seasoning on rice was ok. Little light but better too light than too heavy. I guess my main complaint was some of the crab salad rolls tasted fishy. I'm not sure what constitutes real crab but it didn't not live up to expectations either. The tempura roll was my favorite. I enjoyed the Japanese lasagna too. Not too sure I'd come back on my own accord."
