"This is such a great spot to come in, sit under the beautiful foliage and trees, all while having a nice cold beer and a stiff shot of liquor at one of the coolest neighborhood bars we could find in PDX. This is such a cool little spot that I could not get enough of and made sure to have enough cash to be able to keep the beers flowing and even partake in some of their tasty snacks and food they have on the menu at the bar. We ended up having a couple of great and filling hotdogs along with some good mac and cheese for some late night eats after exploring Portland during the day. All the nooks and crannies of spots to hang out in this bar is what charmed me to keep wanting to come back! Although parking can be difficult (street and neighborhood parking) it was all worth it when we walked in and we couldn't get our eyes off of the knick knacks and decor around the bar. Bartenders and server was super friendly and attentive. I love the whole idea of having cash only bar in the neighborhood. It allows me to keep a low profile of my late night eats and drinks from my debit/credit card account. HEHE!This spot is worth brining all of your friends, ordering some cool cocktails, and enjoying the Portland weather under some cool and unique and eclectic decor at one of the most unique bars I have ever seen."
"Needing a bite to eat, we stopped out front of this place to take a quick look at the menu. After skimming it over I found something that I knew I would like and we decided this would be a good place to grab a quick dinner. When we entered we were greeted and asked where we wanted to sit. We didn't really care and let the host show us to a seat. It kind of felt like we were purposefully taken on a long walkthrough of the whole restaurant before shown our seat. Our drink order was taken immediately upon us sitting down and at that point of the day all I wanted was water. It was odd that the host served us our drinks, but it also felt like we were disrupting his day. Honestly, that was the only low point.Once we had time to look over the menu we were greeted by our server and our order was placed. After placing the order we were able to appreciate the seat we were sat at. Maybe that walkthrough was done to make the appreciation so much more. Where we were seated we had a wide view of the street outside without the noise and possibility of weather change. This is a great place to people watch as well. After a bit our food finally showed up and we started to dig in. I went with the Tillamook Cheeseburger. I know, why come to an oyster bar and not partake in the oysters. Well, short answer is I think they are gross and I'm allergic, so no thank you. However, that cheeseburger is a must in my opinion. You get three patties seared on the grill and then they are smothered with Tillamook cheese. The bun is toasted and it is topped with lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle, and thousand island dressing. Think Big Mac with an extra patty, a ton more cheese and so much more flavor than you would expect. With this you get the choice of fries, coleslaw, or salad. Of course I went with fries. This was a behemoth to eat, but I managed by cutting it in half and taking my time. It was a filling meal and definitely something I would get again. After we paid and were heading to the door we were stopped once more. I assume that the gentleman that stopped us was the owner or manager of the place. He was pleasant and asked us how our meal was. He also made it a point to encourage us to come back."

"My favorite Chinese restaurant. Good tats yes amazing! The best in Portland. It is always hot and made fresh!"
"My favorite bar in Portland--beautiful and relaxing. Always great service here.Truly, it's the fish tanks that always draw me back. They are haunting in their beauty. The drinks are wonderful, too."
"The worse thing about this place was April, happy to say she has moved on to the dump dive bar she worked at part-time. She was so trashy I wouldnot go in there when she worked. The best fish and chips, chefs salad in PDX. Deb, Marci and Tona are great bartenders."
"Been here 3 or 4 times and it's consistently good! I love this neighborhood and this cozy spot fits right in. It's a tad bit more upscale than some of the other restaurants and bars on the block, and I appreciate that. Food is great and lots of options for carnivores, vegans, etc. Good drinks that don't take 15 minutes to wait for. Food is delicious and not served with tweezers. Pro tip - also a good lunch spot if you're in the mood for a sandwich. The elk burger was really good."
"Heard a lot of good things about happy hour so I gotta check them out! $7 for all Martinis was a pretty great deal. They also got deals on their food but we didn't get any (next time!).The Cloud Nine and Raspberry Truffle that we got were as decadent as they sound. I'm partial to the Raspberry one though, the slight tanginess from the raspberry was perfect. The Passiontini was also very nice, super refreshing. They have a few categories of martinis so you'll be sure to find something that you like!Inside was a tad dim but overall spacious and cozy. Service was fast and friendly as well. Will definitely be back!"
"We came at the perfect time. There were so many different varieties of pizza to choose from. I ordered the "all veggie" and it was so yummy. I also had a salad with ranch. The dough is so perfect!Thank you for feeding us tonight. We will definitely come more often and bring friends and family."
"Beautiful street walking day in Hawthorne, relaxing in the makeshift outdoor seating off the sidewalk.Enjoyed some lite bites ~ beets, meatballs. Gnocchi a bit too soft. Cavatelli Bolognese $29 & Sea Scallops $32 were tasty.Service was reasonable but expected more from a $$$. Kept us from ordering dessert and opted to pass.Yes, there are actually 3 doors ;)"
"The Pharmacy is place of healing. A place to cleanse one's soul. Get your prescriptions inside and enjoy next to the Benson Bubblers outside in good company.Everybody has different pains and problems. One finds himself here to get through them. Don't worry, your not alone - everybody is in this together. A magnetic place where all walks of life merge. Artists, German philosophers - - people of all backgrounds and socioeconomic statuses. All there and all in harmony.A place of sharing and caring. One story from a friend - a most horrific experience in his bedroom. I don't think a worse incident can happen to a guy. The horror. Oh, the horror. After he gets it out a weight lifts off his shoulders and the constant cleansing effect of the nearby Benson Bubblers takes away all the bad memories. The constant water flow for over 100 years is too powerful to merely be symbolic. Constant foot traffic on the sidewalk sweeps all negative feelings away and down the drain. Now that the weight is lifted lets be inspired. The most magnificent and anticipated piece of writing is in the works by an artist who frequents the place. Pulling inspiration from The Pharmacy and its colorful visitors - a piece 30 years in the making. Make friends with this local - he will open your eyes so that familiar things seem foreign. Up will be down. Left will be right. You get the picture.Maybe your feeling numb to life. They serve up the perfect thing for that too. Hot, hot, hot wings that could wake up the dead. Try the triple hot wings if you dare. I kid you not. There is a solution to every problem here.Test the strength of your mind with their placebos. I don't recommend it and I haven't tried them first hand but you could hone the Jedi in you. Just flip over the menu and order away.Life can throw you curve balls but they are no match for the concoctions and connections made here. A blessed place to be."

Very Portland-style type of bar that truly does feel like a roadside bar The patio is great if you like to smoke and not so great if you don't. The swing in the patio though is my favorite feature here. It is cash only so beware. Also steer clear of the well tequila. Worst well tequila I've tasted. It's right behind my place so I occasionally come but probably wouldn't go out of the way for it.

This is a true old man bar+restaurant. With the almost 'where everybody knows your name' Cheers feel as my daughter joked, Dan & Louis is a maze of a bar+restaurant with a couple of small secret rooms throughout located in the Old Town Chinatown area by the Willamette River in Portland. My daughter and I came here out of pure luck when we grabbed some donuts at Voodoo to bring to NY and noticed Dan & Louis' easel showing some of their Happy Hr selections. Unlike some places offering Happy Hr at the bar area only, you could actually sit anywhere and STILL take advantage of the low-priced menu. Dan & L. is decorated with half burgundy/half forest green color walls, lots of nautical pieces and frames. The space feels cozy and quite truthfully, all it needed was a roaring fireplace. The guy shucking served as a host and server with terrific energy- and so was everybody else. Our $24 dozen Washington oysters had a nice feel and taste. But our measly fish in our tacos had a heavy dredge on it and took away from the meatiness of the fish. To add, tons of cabbage is added to fluff up the meal. Aside from the tacos, my kid and I felt this was nice choice before my flight the next day. And dozen oysters for $24? It's all good- considering a full dozen in NY is gonna set you back way more than that.

I got takeout on a Thursday evening. Excellent food, quick service, very affordable. The owner answered honestly when I asked if I'd ordered enough for two people. We got the Very Special Combination plus sweet & sour soup and salad rolls. (What I would call egg rolls). The sweet & sour soup was DELICIOUS and heavy on black pepper. There was another couple waiting at the same time who were regulars for years. I think the 3-star average is from people who don't like the unhoused population that used to take up the parking lot. There's a fence up now. Eastern Cathay has a nice neighborhood feel. I look forward to ordering from them again.

Made an impromptu visit to this quirky, fish tank bar and loved it. We were a group of 11 and popped in for a couple of drinks. Loved the atmosphere with all the fish tanks, mirrors, and statues, The other patrons were nice and friendly and the staff was very nice. We got some great recommendations and think drinks were tasty. There's a small outdoor area to the back and outdoor seating in front.

Overall, there is nothing wrong with the place, other than their extreme lack of marketing & waste of great potential. For it's crappy location, it's actually got a good location (hang with me here). It's directly on the Springwater Trail & no other bars/restaurants are located off the trail until you hit Sellwood. It is off 82nd though, down in Felony Flats so you can imagine the "diverse" type of crowd. Example: guy decked out in camo gear calling people "turkeys" as an insult. Inside it is DARK, dank & dingy. They did have a nice bartender. Didn't try the food. Beer selection was better than expected based on atmosphere: 2 local micro taps & then, of course, all the domestics. Here is where is really gets fun: the decor! Left over metallic crap from someone's house last time they redecorated. For real. Remember the late 80s/early 90s dark plush furniture with contrasting swirl designs? Asian-inspired black & gold wall hangings? Sparkle-flecked mirrors? There was actually a labrador-sized golden dear statue in front of the granite fireplace (next to stacked boxes of what I'm hoping contain more fabulous home-decors just waiting to be set out). Their outside patio is where it really fell apart for me: Faded green Rubbermaid chairs along with their stored curbside trashcan & coffee cans for cig butts. Worst part: The roof top is closed, permanently . A bucket lid hangs on a wire hanger strung across the stairs and in faded marker: "do not enter." I asked the bartender what was up with the roof and she replied, "I guess it used to be open a long time ago, but now we only have the main level" (What?! You have got to be kidding me!). Great potential, but it sure would take a lot of work. At the end of the day, it's an uber-dive on south 82nd and I won't be back.

Grabbed a bite to eat and it was lovely. There is street parking in front of the restaurant and parking lots around in walking distance. The wait was not long and service is quick.

"It took me awhile, but I finally stepped inside. Diggin' it. We only ordered a few items as we waited for our dinner reservation across the street. The Sidewinder - the only rum cocktail on the menu - was potent and satisfying. I couldn't resist the simple James Beard signature sandwich, yum.Service was accommodating and friendly. Drink price points are higher than average, but gauging by the packed interior, nobody seems to care."
"This place has been around for as long as I can remember. It's one of the places I used to go for a late night munchies, especially the burger. I came here again for Portland Burger Week. Their special burger was very tasty, and you can tell that the meat quality is superb. They also have a great selection of drinks."
"This is a great place for drinks and Tex-Mex food! Their nachos are very good and so huge! I call them Nacho Mountain! But you can order a small for one or two people. Their quesadilla is super excellent and also quite large. There were four of us and one large nacho and one quesadilla fed us all, I left feeling super stuffed. Drinks are well made and tasty. Although service is friendly and quick, you do have to order at the counter and there is sometimes a long line. Low Tide does a great business and has lots of tables, my one suggestion would be that they consider hiring a couple of servers. This, however, is a fun, fun place to go with friends."
"Ok, so maybe I was a little overdressed as I often am. Too many sequins, too much sparkly jewelry, wearing a sport jacket, twas all a big clue to the eagle-eyed regulars that I was an outsider. But they were cool, and made the evening oh so interesting. It was a little surreal, kinda like stepping into a time machine and stepping out into 1985. The hair, the clothes, the music. Don't get me wrong, I was digging this and found this place to be totally rad. An American-Chinese karaoke bar. And I'll be damned if some of those folks couldn't belt out the hits like pros. Most of them were completely amazing. I especially enjoyed the performance of this big, burly man sing Aretha Franklin's "Natural Woman," for reals. What I found to be even more amazing was "Uncle Ray." He's a chipper fellow that enjoys dancing along with whomever happens to be singing. Now, that old chap has got some bad-ass dance moves that include some lecherous looking motions on the various poles they have around the dance floor. He was a sight to behold. Our bartender, Kat, she too had an eagle-eye, watching out for we ladies yet serving up a mighty fine drink. Right before the kitchen closed I ordered the broccoli beef which I am still working on. It's pretty good. I wouldn't hesitate to try something else off the menu next visit. I am so intrigued by this place, I can't wait to go back, maybe get drunk and sing something.2016 - Review # 49"
"My friend and I were at a performance nearby and she suggested this for our unwind. She is a vegan and I love friend suggestions. I am a carnivore but genuinely just love good food and have a lot of close friends who are vegan. We managed a leisurely dinner and I feel like we went during a pretty perfect time - Sunday, late afternoon.I got a beyond burger and it was delicious but, I will say I wanted some fries which they do not have so that did disappoint. Their chips are good but ...sniffle... I appreciated the pickle until I took a bite and my pickle was floppy and not crunchy so it just seemed old and disappointing. My friend gave me a bite of her chili which is served over Fritos and that IS where it is at! Freaking delicious.I get having to go to the bar and order but, as an ADA person, I also am not a huge fan of having to stand in a line to order. It is awkward, especially trying to balance my cane with one hand and my drink, the standing number for my order, my wallet etc etc.... get back to my table... I tend to shy away from bars for food for this reason and prefer to just go to a restaurant. I have been hanging out with a friend who likes to go to bars for food and I love trying new places.I wished I had opted for the Mexican Coke versus their gun because the Coke from the tap was not great and tasted watered down. I genuinely do not drink a huge amount and am highly allergic to hops so I appreciate it when bars have their soda game on point and definitely notice when they don't.When we sat down after we had ordered our food, a person came in and said that they had been waiting for an hour for their food. We started panicking a bit because we wanted to make sure that we got to our movie on time. Thankfully, our food came out much faster than that. I will say that is one convenience of ordering upfront is that when you are done eating, you are done. The space itself I really liked and they have a lot of different spaces for small or larger parties of people."
"I am a huge fan of the kimchee mac, I think it's the best dish on the menu. It's unbelievably flavorful. The place has very good vibes and people, and we love it every time we go."
"I came here for a friend's birthday party and am in love! What a great space! I love that in this area there are lots of parking options too - I genuinely get scared going into a new spot wondering how long I need to arrive early to do the circle around and around and around. Nope - they have their own lot and plenty of street parking too! Many dive bars around are also pretty unclean feeling that is supposed to be charming - this is not that. The space is nice with nothing nasty to hide and has several areas you could fill pretty well with people. There is even a super cute area tucked in a corner with couches you could feel pretty swank drinking a martini. The bartender was a dream - what a sweetheart! She is on it also and kept knocking out drink after drink. Their have a small menu with some decent bar food. I just went with tots and fish but almost regret (after seeing some other reviews) not grabbing a hamburger. My food was fine though - I was not expecting more than some greasy fried food - this was fried but the grease was even low and super cheap so yay! They have some great large tables so getting a group together here is a great option for gatherings."
"Bloody amazing. This semi-secreted "speakeasy" is above the casual "Green Room" bar/lounge. My party first dined next door at L'il Shalom, and prior to eating, we put our names on the wait list for the Whiskey Library, so it worked out perfectly. (This wasn't the first rodeo for my dining companions. They've been to this bar before and loved it so much, so they knew the routine). After our dinner, we went to the Green Room and we were summoned upstairs to the Whiskey Library soon after we arrived. (It was super cool, being escorted upstairs, up this stately wooden staircase, by a smartly-dressed porter-esque man who, with great flourish, opened the formal door to the Whiskey Library, to the formal space within. It was reminiscent of the porter opening the door to the formal dining room in the Titanic to Leo DiCaprio in the movie. It's like another world awaits beyond the door). And WHAT another world it is. It is exactly how one would imagine a "gentlemen's club" of yore: high ceilings, lots of warm wood, library-like shelves up to the ceiling with higher shelves accessible by rolling brass ladders, a massive and stately bar counter, a huge bricked wall with a massive fireplace, dumb waiters in the wall to the kitchen area, stained glass details embedded in the ceiling, smartly dressed servers rolling serving carts to each seating area (like a fancy dim sum place..... Hopefully, you get the gist. This place is special. You can get any cocktail here that you can imagine or conjure up. The servers are beyond knowledgable about anything related to cocktails and spirits and especially whiskeys. I'm not really into whiskey but I ordered a whiskey sour and it was delicious. My kid and her beau ordered various drinks and they were loving them. John was our server and he was great. The food menu looked wonderful and we decided to get a few desserts. The cheesecake with blueberry compote was delicious, but the Earl Grey creme brûlée was THE BEST creme brûlée any of us had ever had in our respective lives. To DIE FOR. What a special, swanky, wonderful place. Cannot recommend enough."
"Located in west Moreland neighborhood, decent bar drinks and food. We got to enjoy the outdoor seating and filled up real quick for lunch. Bartender was busting and doing everything and still super friendly. Did not go inside surprisingly..I hear it really pops at night. . Fun little stretch of area with restaurants and bars and even located next to the theater."
"This is a cute little small lounge in the Hotel Deluxe. It is dimly lit and cozy. Love the ambience. We did not order food, but we had a couple craft cocktails. The old fashion was delicious and their wine was a decent pour. The waitress, very sweet. The lobby is next-door and it was really busy with the people coming in for Christmas. Parking is not bad, but you may have to wait to get into this little gem of a lounge. Loved it!"
"First time back in over five years. Enjoyed the service and chat from the owner of the bar.The rum cocktail with Amontillado and honey was refreshingly satisfying on a hot day.The special - a shrimp asparagus mix - served with homemade chips - was a hit. The rum cake was meh, but I definitely connected with the ice cream. Still a great bar and vibe."
"I've been here a good amount, they host Bridgetown Trivia on Thursday nights outside. They bring a lot of people in for Trivia, so my review is only based on Thursday nights, your MMV depending on the night. The pros: The food is really good. Far better than almost any bar I've been to, they have a wide variety of options, and they have a couple weekly specials that are typically must try for a couple of us on our team. They have Bridgetown Trivia, which is the best trivia in town. They also have a ton of seating, which is nice, including a large patio area outside that is covered and is really nice to eat at on a nice day. Cons: most of these are minor, but some bigger than others. Parking is difficult, and some of my team members had issues parking in certain areas at night. The bar wait times are long, there is no table service, and you can count on waiting 5-10 mins to place an order, and to pay at the end of the night. The smoking outside. Most nights it feels like every person, in portland, who smokes, is at Space Room. And not casual smokers. Chain smoking, and because over the cover, it feels like the smoke lingers. It became one of the biggest factors in us playing somewhere else. Also, the cover started to become leaky this fall and we had noticed ourselves getting wet. Neutral: The staff. Some are friendly, some seem like they DGAF, some would appear to have a slight disdain for customers. Overall, kind of a bummer. This is one of the tougher places to play trivia, the competition is stiff, and this was the food place we looked forward to every week and it was nice to play against a lot of teams, but the smoke, parking and not being covered from the elements led us to find a new spot."
"I have no idea if this bar has food - but when we came in a few Friday's ago - at 7 pm - and we were pretty much the only people there. The bartender said they need better signage but by 8 pm, the place was packed.I think this used to be a doggy day care or doggy spa. It's been open for 3 years and I never knew it was here. Too bad because I have moved from the neighborhood and this would have been a great neighborhood haunt. We just got a few rounds of beers but we stayed quite a while because they have a great vibe and video poker - which the guys in our group could not be torn away from. The decor is neon and chill but not hipster - like the rest of the places on this side of the river. They also have a billiard room. So, basically, there is just about something for everyone. I wish my new neighborhood had a bar like this that was walking distance."
"Great outdoor patio. Kind of upscale vibe inside. Attractive people where you can often strike up a conversation. Also appreciate that they have cheap Rainiers for those who don't want fancy cocktails. One of my favorite summer spots to go to."
"OK ok, not ok bad. This place could be so much better though. Somewhat sterile feel inside ~ few tables that are overly spaced out, off white tile flooring & off white walls makes a newly painted apartment rental feel. Yelp categorize OK as a lounge which it is not.Food ok ~ with no one else in the restaurant the bloated noodles were disappointed. Stirfry noodles the same. Potstickers had a good chew. Service friendly, smiley and thankful when we left."
"Came here for Sandwich week, never would have found this place without it, and it did not disappoint. The sandwich was exactly as advertised, it was a good size, the pork was delicious, the bun was really flavorful and the whole sandwich had a great texture and flavor. The portion size was very fair, and I felt like it was a good deal for $8. The service was great, I got there about 40 mins before close, and the bartender happily took my order and was very friendly. My only gripe would be the parking, maybe someone more familiar with the area would have known a better spot, but I struggled to find something. I didn't know if the garage was for customers or just people staying, so I didn't bother trying, and because of that, I'm not knocking a star off since it could have been my error. I'll definitely be back to try something else."
