Visited Bullard Tavern again after a several year gap. The dinner we had was so delicious, I'm still thinking about it! This time we sat in the dining area with a view of the kitchen, which for a foodie like me is always fun. The action and fast pace in which they work to create so many incredible dishes is amazing. We started with cocktails and shared a roasted beet salad that was served over peppery arugula, to balance the sweetness of the beets, with whipped goat cheese, candied cashews (a deviation for the more common candied pecans) and Cara Cara seeds. the maple bourbon vinaigrette fought it all together - crisp, sweet, savory with texture - the perfect salad. Along with a bottle of red, we each enjoyed our own main dish. My friend had the salmon and absolutely loved it. Craving meat, I ordered the pork chop when my first choice, the steak, was sold out. No worries, it ended up being the right choice! Cooked to perfection, the smoke added a distinct flavor element without overpowering. The sides of roasted potatoes and asparagus, the perfect accompaniment. For desert, we opted for espresso martinis to cap off a perfect meal. Ambiance is dark and cozy with plenty of bar seats if that's your thing. I had completely forgotten about Bullard so I was thrilled when my friend suggested it. They are definitely back in my rotation when I want a nice dinner out.

Went over there last night as we couldn't get reservation on another place and it did not disappoint. Menu is not huge, but possibly Bullard has the most underrated steaks in Portland. It's quite limited with 3 to choose from but they do make those well. I took pork chops and that was good as well. Restaurant is the ground floor of woodlark hotel and so for dinner do a reservation. It's a decent place for a quiet date night if you want to have a quiet date night. Good decent drink menu and Texas cheese cake as dessert perfectly rounded up the evening. pineapple snaquiri and something non alcoholic

I went to Bullard Tavern while I was on a business trip and absolutely loved it! The ambiance of the place was very classy and upscale, and set the vibes for the night. The waitress was very attentive and even provided recommendations for us as we didn't know what to choose from (so many options!). Everything tasted delicious and even though we were full, of course we had to order desert. Overall I would return, and don't really have any cons for this place! It was an amazing experience.

Was just in downtown Portland overnight with my wife and we were looking for a good lunch spot with some good drinks as well.Google was our friend and led us to this easy to miss spot.We sat at the bar with no wait, which was great because the bartender was very talented. Not only was the food very good (quinoa salad with pork belly was delicious), but the drinks were even better. The Captain Planet definitely made my all time top ten!

This was absolutely amazing. I came because I saw the good reviews and steak tartare on the menu. I had to wait about 45 min for the dinner to start at 5 and I am so glad I did. I started with cornbread and honey butter which I was a bit iffy/indifferent about. I don't usually like cornbread though, so that's probably on me being the pickiest eater I know. The steak tartare though, was the best I've had in the US and Canada. They use wagyu beef, so it is buttery and not tough or chewy at all. I usually don't love onions, but the sweet white ones mixed in really created a great flavor. It had a fairly thick olive oil type drizzle. I did take the mushrooms off since I forgot to ask, but they didn't taint the flavor at all and looked like they would be good if you like mushrooms. The service was fast and nice and the restaurant environment was classy yet casual enough to make it comfortable.I think I will come here the rest of my trip for that tartare. Cannot recommend it enough. If you are thinking about trying it at some point, this is a great option. I would say the texture and flavor kind of mask what it really is in terms of the mental block. So so so good!!!

Honestly I was disappointed. Came in with a larger group for a birthday and the experience was a little flat. I'd totally go here again and give it a second chance, but just not with a large group. The place is gorgeous and the menu had lots of good options, but we had a really odd service experience. We were a larger party who made a reservations and when we got there, there were only two or three other groups seated. I don't think we ended up ordering till we'd been there for half an hour and we had to stop our waitress and tell her we were ready. She took one round of drink orders and then never asked us if we wanted more. We'd brought a cake and asked if we were allowed to eat it there, which we were. Our waitress whisked away our cake which we hadn't been expecting. They offered to cut the cake for us but it's $5 per person so we opted to cut it ourselves which wasn't a big deal... but they held onto our cake. Food came and went, plates were cleared and then we waited and waited and waited... until we were nervous about leaving on time. We had a show to see just down the road and had made it know to our waitress that we needed to leave at a specific time. We'd given ourselves 1 hour and 45 minutes to eat which had seemed like more than enough time. Apparently not. Someone from out table finally had to go find our waitress to tell her that we'd just skip the cake and that we needed the check because we needed to leave ASAP. Our waitress said the cake was ready now so she'd just bring it out. We guessed we'd just speed eat? Well the cake still took a few more minutes to come out. She brought plates but no silverware. We had to go find our waitress again and asked for the box. We put the cake away and ran to our show.Drinks were fantastic, food was mostly great, we really loved the pastries! but we did have two orders of very overcooked eggs and my tuna dish had what I think were pea shoots? I'm not fully sure because never have I had such fibrous and tough pea shoots in my life. I just brushed them aside and enjoyed the rest of my food.

Awesome brunch and friendly service! We saw that Bullard was on a list of top brunch spots in Downtown Portland so decided to check it out.We started off with some coffee and the Bonnie McMurray (bourbon-based with sherry, walnut bitters, and more). There's an extensive cocktail menu, even for brunch, so make sure to check it out! Next, we got the Seasonal Pop Tart, Summer Vegetable Shakshuka, and Loaded Hash Browns. The pop tart was somewhat underwhelming but still alright. I would've liked more brown sugar filling because it wasn't evenly spread out. The shakshuka was really good -- it wasn't spicy, but I liked the range of vegetables and generous amount of feta. The hash browns were great, too. The staff members were all very kind and friendly. Expect free coffee and constant water refills. A lot of people showed up right at 10am for brunch, so I'd recommend making a reservation.

Unassuming but exceptional place to dine. Came here one night hoping to catch a small bite and we were blown away by the best pork chop we've ever had paired with a dozen fresh oysters, and the fall grilled stone fruit salad with whipped feta. Everything was delicious including the custom cocktails and our server was wonderful and helped us quickly close out once we had to head out for the airport.

Really fantastic pork chop. Great drinks. Decent (for Portland) service. Chic hotel-but-cool ambiance. Definitely would go back to try another dish.
