Modest restaurant which appears to be run by a sweet Thai couple. They keep their overhead low so there are a few things that the customers will be bringing to the table... The portions are not cheap per se, but they portions are generous and the meals taste well cooked, with a "clean" taste... and the sauces don't overwhelm or suffocate it- one can still feel the flavor and taste of the various ingredients. Only one thing I find a bit regretful. I love spicy Thai food and asked them to make it spicy for me... but perhaps because I'm a Caucasian guy, the chef didn't dare to do it... I guess they are probably scared to make it too spicy for the local whiny demographic lol. So I just had to go ahead and spice the food myself by dropping a lot of dry Thai pepper into my food, in front of the lady who looked very surprised. Check out the pix I added ;).The warm seafood salad comes with squid, scallops, prawns and mussels and all of them tasted great- also the avocado and mango on the side were so yummy! Had also some Phad Kee Mao noodles with pork... so good. At many of the other local Thai restaurants, the noodle is sticking together so annoyingly in lumps, whereas here it was definitely the right preparation! The real thing. And the sprouts in top were the best / freshest ones I've had in years. I have one thing that baffles me a lot lately. Why do Thai restaurants in Oregon only have a fork on the table? Usually Thai food is eaten (in Thailand, and in some other US states where I've resided before) always with both a fork and a SPOON. Look it up, Google it if you don't believe me. But at every local Thai restaurant that I visit, I am only given a fork so I have to negotiate with the server or owner to get also a spoon for my meal. How can people here manage to eat Thai food solely with one fork, is a question I can't seem to be able to answer. PM me if you like to try to fill me in. :)

I haven't had a bad dish on any visit. Their pork is incredibly tender and delicious. The service for being short handed is sincere and graceful. They also are open on Sundays which is great! Definitely a great group making some very good meals, try it while you can.

There are a lot of reasons why this place is great but not perfect. We ordered the lettuce wrap, pad kee mao, and pumpkin curry. The portion is 5 stars all the way. We had leftovers for about 2-3 meals. The meat for the lettuce wrap was too salty. I had to end up throwing it out after the third attempt to finish it.They are courteous and made sure that our order was correct. It was done when they said it would be done. When I phoned in the order, the phone was busy - just try until you get through.

The portions here are huge!! Definitely get bang for your buck here. Not my favorite pad Thai in town but the food is pretty good and it's enough for two meals. I always try to keep that in mind when ordering!

I picked up a togo order when I worked over at Milwaukie and I am so impressed with this spot. The food portion is HUGE. 15 dollar pumpkin curry with chicken and it was filled to the brim of a 32oz soup container. During these expensive times, this place really awed me. The curry was also delicious and had a ton of pumpkin, chicken and all veggies! The mango sticky rice was also delicious! I will definitely come back for dine in. This place is a little gem.

Beat Thai food in Gladstone/Milwaukie. They are consistent with their large portion sizes and quality ingredients. They always have the friendliest service and the value for what you get is unbeatable. A definite hole in the wall restaurant, but it's truly a hidden gem If you don't know what to get, curry powder is fantastic!

Hands down, the best Thai food I've had in Portland or outside of Thailand! Yes, the food is that darn good! The traditional flavors - salty, sweet, sour, bitter, spicy - blended Together perfectly so that you taste them all but at the same time, they work in unison. While I have raved about other Thai restaurant, going forward, Buathong Thai is the bar that all others will be judged against. Craving Thai while in the Milwaukee area after an appointment, I followed the Yelp starts to Buathong, a completely unassuming restaurant in a strip mall, one of many in this area. As the food was brought to my table, the scent of Thai basil greeted me and I immediately knew the Pad Kee Mao was going to be good but I had no idea it would be outstanding! Lots of hand cut extra wide rice noodles that perfectly absorbed the Thai basil flavor along with the spice and sweet that are signatures if this dish. Noodles were al dente and stir fried with crisp broccoli, large slices of sweet onions and carrots, and tender chicken, the massive portion was enough for two hungry diners. We also tried the Panang Curry in a rich tomato cream curry with crisp green beans, red peppers and chicken. The curry was so flavorful and with every bite I was craving another. The curry comes with plenty of Jasmine rice to soak up the sauce. If this restaurant was in my neighborhood or on my way home from the gym, I would eat here every single week. It's a 20 minute ride and thankfully there are other stores in the area - Fred Meyers, Washman, Bargain Market - that I can run my errands and then pick up dinner. Or go after the Milwaukee Farmers Market on Sunday. See? It's that good that I will literally plan my day around going there or make it a destination even for takeout. While I'll always get the Pad Kee Mao, there are many other items on their extensive menu that I want to try. The couple next to us had the sliced beef salad and I was shocked over how much flank steak was included. It's worth staying again, the portions are huge! And prices are the standard; the Pad Kee Mao was $14. Buathing is quality food and large quanities, not quantity over quality. They offer both which is very rare! My new favorite Thai place and I can't wait to go back!

Been going here for years. The staff is friendly, the place is a hole in the wall but what's really important of course is the food. The reason I've been going back is the food is always good and also the portions are HUGE! I'm talking 2/3x the size of other places which makes Buathong a great value. Sure I'm eating leftovers for days but I don't mind and in this economy, the large portions are welcomed.
