There are various types of piroshki on sale and displayed in the bakery case. (no review)
I got a kick out of just looking at this layered cake. It looks like Graham crackers. (You can't argue with Graham crackers.) (no review)
Russian cake (Koko...?) with meringue and a light cream center and candied pecans crushed on top.
a hand holding a can
Little meat for the dough
The old birds milk candy tasted like play-dough.
Beef piroshki
Huge chocolate coins
I tried these piroshki and they were good. (no review)
Cherry pastry
This was the "meal:" three baked goods and unsweetened iced tea! (no review)
Of the pastries selected, this was the tastiest, and also fairly rich, as would be expected from Eastern European baked goods. (no review)

We were passing Oregon state and saw this store. The cakes were overpriced at $49.99 each. We bought 5 types of candies by weight. Four types out of five were old. The so famous Birds milk candies were so old that their marshmallows inside turned from fluffy white color to yellow and tasted like play-dough. We threw them away. Crazy bee candies were old. No way, that the store does not know that they sell expired products. The ice cream was good. So 2 stars for this store.

The staff is the friendliest and most helpful. It's my weekly stop. The selection of deli items is amazing in a small space. Mind you it is stocked with Ukrainian, Polish, and some Romanian. They serve up fresh baked Deutsche Bäckerei breads - German wheat, lower in gluten, started in Germany, frozen, then finished baking here. Good for you. Pierogie heaven.

I must say, I felt like I was waaaay out of my element here. I added this place to my bookmarks because I had never been to a Russian deli and bakery before so I wanted to give it a try.Very authentic feel to the place but the prices are a little complicated. I couldn't figure out how much anything was without having to ask. Either things are priced per piece but have to be bought by the box, or they're priced per pound and not by piece. It's a little overwhelming. However, I came to try the food and I was happy with what I tried. I got the beef piroshki which was a first try for me. The bun was greasy but tasty, the beef wasn't exactly fitting of the dough so it was a little strange to have more than half of my bites just dough without the meat.I asked the cashier what dessert was her favorite and she mentioned the cherry pastry so I got it. It was good! Found it a little odd that the pastry came out of a cold case but it was room temp. I still finished it happily.Overall, I don't know that I'd come in again besides perusing through some of the packaged items.

Review is mostly about the piroshky. So good! The beef one. The beef patty was nice and beefy and oniony. Full of flavor. The dough had a slight chew. Of course deep fried. Total comfort food.

Felt obligated to look into my review on this being that I know I've love this place forever... I'm a sucker for eastern European grocery stores. I think they have the best bulk candy selection. They always have delicious fried breads, and always have good cured meats.Often earlier in the day on weekdays, I like to stop in and get some feta fry bread... Well, I assume it's feta it's probably some other kind of cheese, but it's what it reminds me of absolutely amazing the warm it up for you grab extra napkins that usually pretty oily and just eat it on the drive home ... they always have good desserts. Some have interesting, textures that you're not as used to with western deserts, but very often they have quite unique flavor profiles. Lots of layers done beautifully, and always at a great deal. But in the past where they always shine, the brightest is in their bowl candy section I don't know what any of them are called. I don't know they have any most the time, but you learn which shapes and types you like and when you find your niche, you can get some wild candy But in the past where they always shine, the brightest is in their bulk candy section I don't know what any of them are called. It seems a little more complicated and a little better put together now if I only knew what they're called so I can tell you which ones to get!

Beware, selling expired food! I bought couple cans of Baltic sprats in oil and only when I got home I realized they expired almost a year ago. When I came to the store again, I noticed some other products were expired. When I mentioned this to the cashier, she said that everything with orange tag is on clearance because it's expired. I asked if it's allowed, and she replied that they have a "permit". Please be careful and look at the expiration date, I am not an expert but the product with expiration stamp dated a year back doesn't seem safe to consume. Just tells you how much they care about their costumers.

I love drive-by discoveries like my experience at Babushka. It's a well stocked grocery store specializing in Russian goodies. But the real draw are the homemade peroshkis, I opted for the just right spiced beef. While I appreciate that it was ready-to-eat, the warmer that housed it resulted in a chewy dough, kinda like when you microwave bread. In addition, it was oily. Still, I'd order it again, the price is very fair.Service is kind and parking wasn't a problem.

I live near by and have been here 3 times in total. The most recent time I came here was with my bf.From the moment we walked inside there was a young girl who greeted us and she said hi. There was also a man behind the cashier and did not welcome us or even acknowledged us nor did he say hi. Things in this store is way over priced. We see stuff in here that are bagged in ziploc bags to re sell. I don't know if they were bad but they don't have dates on them. We also see stuff that looks old. Cakes we don't know how long it's been in there or if it's fresh. The piroshki all looks dried up and old. We have tried there piroshki before we had the meat one and they put very little meat so you are eating more of the bread not a good balance. We had also tried the potato one and it's ok. We bought pork canned pate (haven't opened it yet) , a slice of cake that was $11.99 and did not taste that great (Tous Le Jour bakery in clackamas mall is a lot better and quality is a bang for your buck if your going to spend $11.99 for a cake.) we also bought a bag of frozen dumplings that we wanted to try. We asked what is the best way to cook them since we don't know much about Russian food and we do see the directions on the back when we asked the young girl she goes and gets her dad (the man who didn't greet us and not sure if it's her dad, I'm just saying) and he comes and point at the bag of the dumplings where the directions was (basically telling us this is the direction and this is how you cook it) he had no efforts in wanting to talk with us. He was rude and definitely not friendly at all. We also bought a small strawberry cheesecake ice cream was not good either. We spent about $30We came here to support local businesses but I would never come here again. I would think when you support local businesses and want to try other culture foods they be more helpful than point at the bag of the dumplings and tell us that's how you cook it and say little to no words and not acknowledge us. It's rude so I will not be coming here. Weren't very helpful. We did get home and steamed and also tried frying the dumplings and it was good. We made our own sauce for it.Save your money and go somewhere where they acknowledge you and helpful and where your money is not wasted on buying goods that are not satisfying. Food is expensive here is overpriced at least go get your low y worth some where.

LOVE the pickles and shuba salad. Super authentic! Worth the trip off the main drag of 84 when you're in Portland, and it's one of those where everything we've tried was (kind of weird but) amazing.
