They better start calling this place the Mayo Clinic the way Deli Don operates on these slices of bread. Holy hell! Not only is the sandwich affordable, I've never seen a Sysco truck parked out front. You can tell he fighting inflation with his heart and soul to bring a fast and affordable sandwich. The deli salads are traditional in the sense of classic deli salads. Like the ones in the ugly cookbook pictures that have oxidized over time, but don't actually look that way in real life. Yeah those ones. Their slaw is a forgery of the chop salad at New Seasons but $8 cheaper. Their potato salad is like cocaine to geriatrics, veterinarians, nurses, and everyone else in the neighborhood who's tried it. The macaroni salad has chunks of cheese in it and a beautiful pink color. They always make a point to have fresh cut fruit as well. I heard a rumor that they used to have an incredible chicken salad as well. All their ingredients are cut fresh daily. Their lettuce is everything you love about getting sprouts on your sandwich back in 2005. The thinness/temperature/freshness is supreme to any deli I've been to. And it's not like strands of hair. Just thick enough to mock actual sprouts. I feel like one of the Lost Boys in the movie Hook when they are eating Play Dough.Their grilled ham and cheese is like getting punched to the ground by a summer camp bully who you shared a crush with. The way the cheese melts with the mayo as it cools the sandwich down is like (REDACTED).Their Rubens are on par with Goose Hallows. There, I said it. What they lack in a slightly thicker girth, they make up for with the freshness and authenticity of their rye bread. I prefer the Rachel honestly, but that's just because I enjoy smoked turkey and it's the only sandwich they have on their menu with it, that you don't have to build yourself. Their egg salad sandwich is a killer. And I'm not talking about your traditional prison food. This thing is soft folded eggs without that smelly vinegar. It's almost too clean which is why I add swiss to mine. My tastebuds get confused when I eat an egg salad sandwich and there aren't hints of somebody's foot in it.You can never fail with their soups. If it's a type of soup you enjoy, order it. It's like going to Elephants before they started putting orange peels in the tomato bisque. Always ask about the stock if you are a vegetarian or pescatarian. These are traditional soups with old school bases. The ham and split pea has the most beautiful color and flavor. If it's sweater weather buy a quart. Unwavering heartiness no matter what. From what I understand they cater events as well, and are reasonably priced. I get pissed on Sundays because I can't get a sandwich here. LAST PLACE IN PORTLAND TO GO ON A DATE WITH $28 BUCKS IN YOUR POCKET!

Frankly, Aunt Tillie's never disappoints. This time I went for the Aunt Tillie's Special sandwich on brown rye. It was loaded with fresh slices of salami, turkey and pepperoni, as well as pepperoncini and other delightful fixings. The sandwich is usually served on a French Roll. I just prefer rye. The Special has just the right amount of meat and spread. Enough to fill you up, without making you feel miserable, or making a big mess. Aunt Tillie's ingredients always seem so fresh and, they are always delicious. Often, I get a side of the macaroni salad, which is my absolute favorite. The staff are always very friendly and clearly care about producing a top-quality product. Aunt Tillie's is somewhat nostalgic, as it an old-fashioned sandwich cafe, with a very pleasant atmosphere. And, although I don't drink beer, they have a respectable tap list and nice little bar area.Thank you, Aunt Tillies, for always delivering a premium sandwich experience.

Several years ago, when I first moved into the neighborhood, I accidentally stumbled upon Aunt Tillie's as I was wandering around aimlessly. Located in the Hollywood 42nd Street Station, Aunt Tillie's is tucked away from the outside world, but my curiosity led me to explore. The Hollywood Station itself is quite an experience with a postal station, salon and barber shop, antique store, and a Himalayan gifts store...But enough about the mall, I had come for the food! Checkered tiles outside lead into the deli where there are several tables, a small bar, and an area to play Video Poker if that interests you. The menu offers a variety of sandwiches, salads, and soups. You can also pick up a bag of chips, order a side of potato salad, and get refreshments from a refrigerator. On my various visits, I have tried the Tillie's Tickler which has ham, turkey, pepper Jack cheese, lettuce, tomato, red onion, mayonnaise, and vinaigrette, the Tuna Melt, the Egg Salad Sandwich which is not currently on the menu, but still a delicious option, and the Tillie's Vegetarian. I cannot really pick a favorite since all of the sandwiches I have tried have been delicious! The service is also friendly and quick which makes Tillie's a great place to visit. FYI, they aren't open on the weekends, which is a bummer, because I would love to buy some sandwiches for a weekend picnic. Give Aunt Tillie's a try! You won't be disappointed!

Picked up three Aunt Tillie's Specials and they wowed us and we know our deli sandwiches. Anyone can throw ingredients on a nice roll. But it takes talent to make it "more than the sum of its parts". These did it and beautifully. Leaves you wanting for more!

I got the vegetarian sandwich and my husband got a turkey club. They were really good and we had a picnic outside with our food. Will definitely be back assuming we can get there during the hours they're open.
