This place is really good. A little bit of sunny Aloha spirit in rainy, wet, dank Portland. The workers are friendly and chill. The food is basic Hawaiian and comforting and smells great when it rolls up in front of you.Daughter had Kalua Pig and it was moist and very tasty. I had Loco Moco and although super simple they did it great. This burger was tender, the gravy delicious, the rice just right. The prices are fair, it is very inviting inside and I'd eat here any time I am in Portland.

I love this little eatery! The cashier was so friendly when we arrived here, which made us feel right at home. The process of ordering at Ate-Oh-Ate was easy. There was a chalkboard menu where we made our selection, ordered at the counter and paid, and then waited for our order and sat down to eat. The ambiance here is chill. There are plenty of rustic wooden tables to choose from for seating and cool table communal sauces to try. I shared a chicken katsu plate with two sides (macaroni and white rice) with my husband. The chicken katsu was cut thin and fried to crispy perfection! It was delicious and our food came out fast! I would highly recommend coming here.

How I heard of this place: Visiting friends in Portland's Laurelhurst neighborhood, this was among the recommendations for places we could walk to from their home. We were given three or four options, and food from the Pacific Islands sounded most enticing.Type of cuisine: "Ate-Oh-Ate is a Hawaiian restaurant ...[w]ith a focus on delivering authentic Hawaiian-style food, Ate-Oh-Ate is dedicated to providing the finest and most delicious dishes possible. The restaurant group is composed of highly experienced culinary professionals who bring years of expertise to the table, ensuring that every dish is of the highest quality. At Ate-Oh-Ate, we use only the highest-quality ingredients in our dishes, including all-natural meats, fresh vegetables, and authentic products. We are dedicated to providing our guests with the best dining experience possible and take pride in offering food that's not only delicious but also nutritious."Ambiance: "In a warm and inviting family-friendly environment, guests can enjoy a variety of beers on draft or in bottles and cocktails, including our famous Mai Tai. Soak up some surf videos or catch the game on one of our TVs, all while enjoying the good musical vibes. ...and strive to provide a fun and relaxed atmosphere for everyone. At the Woodstock location, disc golf enthusiasts can also check out our selection of signature discs. We offer a variety of molds and plastics and are proud to support local tournaments.Open every day, Ate-Oh-Ate is available for dine-in and take-out. Come and experience the taste of Hawaii in Portland at Ate-Oh-Ate."What I ordered: My sister and I wanted to share, so I took her top two, Korean Chicken ($15.95) - grilled boneless thighs with sweet, spicy Korean chili sauce, served with kimchi; and Shoyu Chicken ($15.95) - boneless chicken thighs simmered in shoyu, brown sugar, ginger and star anise with a side of mac salad. I also indulged in a Frozen Limeade ($6). What I loved: The Korean Chicken was great, slightly spicy but still easy to swallow. The food overall lacked the punch of flavor that we are used to in Hawaiian cuisine, but the portions were plentiful and filled us up! Why I loved it: A cute space with character - concrete walls, chalkboard menus, wooden tables/chairs in the long space, exposed wood in the tall ceilings, and calming forest green walls with silhouetted tree paintings. Cost: Average

I usually go to the other location but we were in this area and decided to stop and eat here. They were very busy even though it was a little early for lunch rush. Service was good but they were sure hustling to get food out. The food is the same as the other location. The portions are good and I love their sauce. They don't sauce the food too much so you can decide for yourself, but they do have it on the table along with other condiments for you to enjoy. It's pretty simple and I did notice on the menu that they offer plates with 2 options. Although I didn't get 2 items it's nice to know that may be an option in the future. I just really like their mac salad.

As a long time Big's Chicken fan, I was dismayed to see it replaced by another Hawaiian place. The katsu was quite wimpy, and the sauces kinda mid, but motchiko chicken and Mac salad saved it. Our cashier was very polite and kind. But $100 for 4 plate lunches and 4 drinks? Not even in Hawaii would you pay that. Bring back Big's.

This place was a little disappointing. I'll say the katsu had a rubbery taste to it when you're chewing on it. The sauce was a little different compare to Hawaii. The Mac salad and rice was fine. My expectation was really high when we came to this spot but I guess I was disappointed. Maybe I should try something else or maybe not at all. I don't think I'll be returning to this place. The service was great. You order at the counter and then seat yourself. There's plenty of seats inside where you can sit. There's also a menu on the wall when you walk in so you can decide before going up to the counter to order.

It's real simple: come here for lunch, order a chicken dish, and get the mac salad. I don't know why they offer a regular salad when it's hotter cousin that makes you question things is right there. You can even get extra mac salad in lieu of rice like a choose-your-own adventure book that ends with you gaining weight. Creative writing emphasizes not repeating words too often but check this: mac salad. It's both a noun and adjective meaning good. I don't even like mac salad that much but they're just doing it different over there. Hawaii took East Asian food, slapped on some early 20th century US food trends like spam and fake salads (not really their choice honestly), and are coming out with some of best hits in the kitchen. Go here for variety and side dishes, go to Chochu Local for better done meats. Skip the Kalua pork though. Chicken dishes are the safest bet

You order at the register and seat yourself. Came in on a Sunday afternoon and there were plenty of seating available. The cashier was quick and efficient, and it wasn't too long of a wait to get our food. I was just really disappointed in my meal. I got the loco moco and it all just lacked flavor. I also got a side of Mac salad which was okay as well. My partner said their Korean grilled chicken was okay as well. Felt the kimchi was bland.

We love Hawaiian food (nothing beats Hawaii) but we felt like we were there inside this place. The service was good and food was quick. Taste was great, I guess we are used to a thicker breading but hey this was good and maybe better for you? We got chicken katsu and mac and rice. So tasty. (We are also huge fans of Ono Hawaiian if that helps?) Plate is a good size, you could share for sure.
