Update from reviews below: Aug. 14, 2024 visit found me having my first lemon cake shake which was really lemony and rich and delicious. Repeated the "dragged through the garden" hotdog I enjoyed before, but this time I took a picture of how efficiently those beauties are created.Update from 3 month old review below, but am leaving it since this one includes a new item and it was a to-go order: Update and info on takeout 10/24/23: My friend had to get the Italian beef as I've been yapping about it for months and he really enjoyed it, commenting that the even the bread was better than most around here; however, he missed the garnishes like the pickled carrots and hot peppers that you can add in when you're in the dining room. I assumed they would add in a little container or remind to ask for some, but maybe they don't. Since it was to-go, I advised he not ask for it "wet" as it might have gotten too soggy by the time we got home, so I did ask for some gravy for dipping so that worked well. I had my first hotdog "dragged through the garden" as I'd been advised to do should I ever order one, and it was indeed crammed with tomato, relish, onions, hot peppers, and mustard. It was indeed tasty on the poppyseed bun, although the hotdog skin was a little tough so biting into it was a bit of a challenge and at one point I had to slide the innards out and go back for the skin in the next bite, so that was a little weird. I like how except for the gravy, there was minimal packaging, just waxed paper and a paper bag.Prior review:This ain't no pressed meat paste glued together pieces parts faux roast beef that lotsa places sell: thank goodness! This Italian beef comes from actual roasts that you can see being thinly sliced on premises and soaked in "gravy," (but it's more like a flavorful au jus), then you can add in roasted green sweet peppers and choice of cheese (I had mozzarella) and then the sandwich can be splashed with some gravy or dipped in it, dipped for a few seconds, really wet, or wrung out dry with gravy on the side. I chose "wet" since my friend from Chicago said to do it that way and I'd never had anything served that way before.) and Italian sausage served "wet" and it was all soggy deliciousness all snugly wrapped in a paper wrapper that made it easy to take bites from. Although it was a bit noisy inside, it wasn't overwhelming like some places can be so we were able to carry on our conversation without straining and it was fun to look around at all the memorabilia like a Statue of Liberty and old electronics and such. The crinkly fries were hot and crisp, and I was thrilled to be able to order a draft beer since most places similar to this don't have that available, and I was extra pleased to see a local one offered. The chocolate cake was moist and rich. I believe they bake it there but the frosting comes to them in tubs which the worker skillfully loads on in just the right amt. I must go back and try their Chicago hotdog, especially since my friend clued me in to ask for it to be "dragged through the garden" so I can get all the toppings loaded on.

Not a big cheesesteak sandwich person to start with, but having one here did not help.Meat is bland and mealy in texture. You'll need to really pile on the peppers and spices to give it flavor and to make up for the blandness. Bun is average to below average in both freshness and taste.Dining areas are good though, both inside and out.But if we're ever in the mood for a cheesesteak sandwich again, we won't come back here.

First time at this location. Not too busy for Tuesday dinner time. Had the Italian beef combo with peppers. Sandwich was tasty. Friend had the same meal but thought the ajus made the bread too soggy. Place is clean, service was good.

Cute decor. I love the diner booths, although they are very close to other seating areas. We decided to come here because I had a free bday chocolate cake to redeem. I wasn't in the mood for hotdogs, so I got the spicy chicken sandwich with a small Coke and fries. The spicy chicken sandwich was a bust. I like Chick-fil-A's more. And it's pretty expensive. The Polish sausage hotdog that my fiancé got was good, though. I'd be happy to come occasionally, but it's just an overpriced fast-food joint... The service was quick and friendly.

This éclair cake is soooo good. The layers of homemade cream with the chocolate frosting on top is pure comfort food. It is a bit heavier than the classic chocolate cake but a great finish after their awesome chicago dogs and fries with the insanely great cheese sauce for dipping. Portillos atmosphere is pure oldies from rock to Blues and the staff are awesome.

Dined in on a Monday evening with my husband. Though the restaurant is located near a mall, it wasn't nearly as busy as I thought it would be. We both ordered Italian beef sandwiches and fries. We added a side of cheese to dip our fries in. It all tasted as great as other Portillo restaurants that I've been to. Loved how efficient the staff was. Outdoor seating available, but we sat inside. Dining area was clean. Ample free parking in the parking lot.

I was craving a good Chicago dog and a friend recommended Portillo's, but there wasn't a restaurant near me. While out running an errand, I drove by and saw the Portillo's on 79th Ave!! I was SO excited! I ordered the regular hot dog with everything on it, small fries and a drink to go, and found a shaded park nearby to just eat in my car. While attempting to eat the hot dog I was unable to bite through the "skin" of the dog! The meat INSIDE the skin would break, but the skin itself would not....no matter how hard I tried to bite through it!! I had to use my fingers to pull and tear through the skin!! It was such a mess, not a pleasant experience at all.I may give the restaurant another chance, but will definitely try something else on the menu! Needless to say, my search will continue for a good Chicago dog!

I think it's safe to say that there is no better fast food milkshake in existence than the strawberry shake at Portillo's. I have gotten several people addicted to these over the last few years. I like the Glendale location because there is rarely a line (granted, I usually stop here after leaving Costco and it's not during peak hours so take that into consideration), the service is always efficient, and I can get in and out of the drive thru quickly. I enjoy their chopped salad and like that you can customize items (i.e. no onions!). Portillo's is always a great option. Make sure you try the strawberry shake - you will not be sorry!

Food was good but we were first timers (and last) and the technical part of ordering from our table saw was such a pain that we won't be back
