Visited from the East coast for a conference. Pastries - divine! I got a cardamom and orange latte with oat milk - the orange is very forward wasn't my favorite but still yummy! I also got half the caf which is 1 shot vs. 3 - very cute views from this corner coffee shop! Would recommend to anyone !! Service was stellar, very kind - intentional (slower) coffee making so if you're in a rush, this may not be the spot for you.

My husband and I just landed in San Diego and we desperately needed caffeine before we walked over to Little Italy for brunch. Portal was the first coffee shop we saw and it seemed promising based on the traffic going in and out. They have two tablets available for ordering and then the baristas call your name. I had their chai ice latte and I didn't like it at all. The spice level was overwhelming. There was way too much star anise. I had 3 sips and was done. It was terrible. My husband didn't like his cold brew either. He said it was really bitter. Waste of $12.50.

Coffee was not very good. Some may say terrible. Very very bitter. I was told before I ordered that I may wish to go somewhere else by our traveling coffee connoisseur. He happened to be staying nearby and tried it the day before. Great place to sit, talk and enjoy your drink...just not the coffee. Dicks

Coffee is decent. For the convenience it works but customer service is terrible. The barista was rude when asking a question. I guess for convenience but there are other options.

My wife loves this place every time we're in San Diego. She always gets the lavender coffee--it's a must for her. The coffee here is always good, and the staff is really friendly. They are usually busy, but I highly recommend it.

Kiley made the experience and is rewarded the stars. She was great and so friendly. However, it took forever to get my ham and cheese croissant and my iced coffee was expensive. Definitely not worth it. If it wasn't for Kiley it would be a one star. It was a cute spot and lots of people around doing work. However, I just moved to the area and I'm going to find another coffee shop to frequent.

Located just a block from the harbor, Portal Coffee offers a refreshing escape with its ocean breeze and subtle sea scent, adding to its charm. The seating options, both indoors and outdoors, were ample and well-arranged, ensuring comfort even during busy times. Despite the lively atmosphere, the ambiance remained relaxed, making it a perfect spot for enjoying coffee.Let's talk about their matcha--it was truly amazing. The flavor was rich, vibrant, and perfectly frothed, making it a standout choice. The service was also exceptional, with attentive and friendly staff enhancing the overall experience. While they offer free WiFi, outlets may be limited. However, this doesn't overshadow the positive aspects of Portal Coffee. In summary, Portal Coffee is more than just a solid spot--to get some work done for matcha lovers and coffee fans.

We looked forward to trying this coffee shop. We went at 5:35 on a Saturday and the 2 ladies had already locked the door for a 6:00pm close. Either they need to change the time on the Yelp site or the customers need to call beforehand to make sure they don't close early for the day.

Ambiance of this spot gets a 5/5 from me! Quick baristas and there's a bunch of indoor/outdoor seating. Great place to do work. The Iced Matcha Latte was average, like nothing special - but a really great price! A decent matcha drink for $5 is unheard of nowadays, so I appreciate a space to study without breaking the bank. This location is a short walk from the Little Italy Mercato. Close to a trolley stop and near the Maritime Museum. Parking can be a pain though.
