My wife and I stopped by on a whim as we were headed South on I5 and we wanted something different than usual. We were walking up to the place to check it out and three local ladies were walking out of the place and sold us on giving it a try, stating "the food is always great here"! My wife and I had the hush puppy app which we thoroughly enjoyed! It was served hot, light and fluffy on the inside and crispy on the outside and was so flavorful. My wife had the chicken and sausage gumbo that had a deep rich flavor and didn't disappoint. I chose the heavenly shrimp and grits which was divine, full of flavor and on point. The only bad part was I had none left to take home. The place was clean, staff were friendly and the beers on tap were nice and cold! We will certainly return the next time we are in the area. Cheers

My bestie and I popped into Poirier's for a pre-Christmas girl dinner and it was sooo good! I had never been before, but have been dying to try them since they opened.I arrived a little early, so of course had to try one of their holiday-themed cocktails. My eggnog espresso martini was fabulously delicious. (In fact, when my friend arrived, I might have actually ordered another!)We skipped appies and went right to the main course. I'm a big jambalaya fan and couldn't resist trying theirs. I was a little surprised when I ordered it and the server mentioned it takes half an hour to make - I wish they made note of that in the menu. I probably would have ordered something else had I known; but by now I was craving jambalaya so I was willing to wait!We enjoyed our cocktails while we waited for my jambalaya. When it arrived it was so delicious - hot and spicy and full of yumminess, including jumbo shrimp, sausage, and all the jambalaya goodness. My friend enjoyed her meal, too, and we ended the evening by sharing a bread pudding for dessert. Folks, this was an amazing dish - sweet, creamy, festive, hot, cold, topped with caramel, allllll the good things in one fantastic dessert.Service was great, too! This is a family-friendly spot so it was a bit loud (thanks to a nearby toddler) in our area; if I went back I might sit in the bar to cut down on any potential kiddo interruptions. I hope they bring back their low country boil menu again this summer as I'm dying to try it!

The afternoon crowd filled the restaurant on a weekday. Food was good and the service was friendly. It took much longer to get food than we expected and it seemed other tables felt the same as they kept asking and checking the time on watches. The ledge by our table could use a good dusting.

I had dinner with some friends and the atmosphere was nice but we felt rushed in every aspect. I had the shrimp and grits and it was ok but not the best I've had. Others had French onion soup which had a funny flavor. The other dishes also were mediocre. They would not split the bill between the six of us so we had to take out the old calculator and divide and conquer. It was a major hassle. Considering the food wasn't the best, service fell short, and the bill situation - I would hesitate to recommend this place for dinner.

My latest trip to Poirier's On the River was fantastic. The service was attentive and prompt. The food was also spot on. I ordered their dinner special, Oyster Gumbo, for $39.99, and their Red Beans and Rice for $26. Both were delicious and filling. The only complaint is that the food took about 30 minutes to come out. However, it is well worth the wait for the good food; just don't come here when you have other time-sensitive plans after dinner. There were also many other customers, so being a bit slow makes sense. Delicious food takes time to make. The interior of the restaurant is very cozy. Personally, I prefer it quiet and not have a band play during dinner.

I was in the Mt.Vernon part of town and felt like some food. First thing I saw looking on the internet was this place. So swung on by to check it out. Soon as I walked in I was greeted and taken to a table. There's an evening feel with dim lights and has plenty of seating for groups. I ended up ordering the Louisiana Catfish with Seasoned Fries, Rumole Sauce and Coleslaw. Catfish was ok....Rumole(I know I'm not spelling it right) taste like a mustard mix and it wasn't my cup of tea. Fries were ok and Coleslaw wasn't that good. I heard people talking and loving their food. I'd say if you feel like some Southern Cooking.....swing on by.

Overall this was a nice outing. The appetizer take a huge chunk of the stars here. The salmon cakes were outstanding. The stuffed mushrooms were drizzled with balsamic and very tasty. Not pictured is the French onion soup. This was a huge miss. The cheese was fine but the broth was very watery and lacked flavor or substance. The onions didn't add any flavor to it, which should have been savory. The entrees were delicious. The fries were cooked perfectly! The shrimp was delicious although the grita were meh. The grits were plentiful and the sauce helped the dish. The seafood pasta was great although the dish could have been more saucy. The sauce thickened and coated the pasta until it seemed almost dry. It didn't detract from the flavor or the dish. It just made you wish the sauce was so thick. I found the catfish to not taste good at all. Very strong flavor. Not the fault of restaurant that I don't like catfish. It just a better dish without. Chock full of seafood. This is not an inexpensive place to done. The bill with tip was about 200 dollars. The entrees were roughly $30 and appetizers were about $17. Throw in 2 ice teas and an alcoholic beverage.. Not cheap. I would suggest happy hour to give it a try. Kudos to the sole server that had to handle the late afternoon crowd. She stayed professional and nice. Your boss should compensate you for that.

I learned of this restaurant from my wife, while she was in Louisiana visiting her parents! She knows I'm a fan of Cajun food, so when she found out about Poirier's on the River she made sure to tell me about it.I drove to Mt. Vernon from Oak Harbor (about an hour) to eat dinner at Poirier's and I'm happy I did!I greeted the staff inside the door and requested a table for one for dinner. I was immediately escorted to a quaint little table with a view of the bar off one side and a view of the front of the restaurant off the other side. The server requested my drink order and let me know what the evening specials were. One of those specials was Spätzle with oysters. I've never had Spätzle and I had oysters only once or twice, so I chose to have that special for my dinner. I had also decided to indulge with an appetizer of "Alligator Bites".The alligator bites were lightly breaded and included breaded and fried jalapeño with a tasty dip.The Spätzle was brought out about 5 minutes after I had finished my alligator bites. For those that don't know what Spätzle is, Spätzle is a special kind of egg noodle that is often enjoyed as a side dish with gravies or sauces but also the main ingredient in other dishes like the famous Käsespätzle. Toss them with a little bit of melted butter and you have an easy but so delicious side dish that the whole family enjoys! They taste like chewy egg noodles and can be made savory but also sweet.Poirier's made this Spätzle with slices of carrot, celery, and onion. The carrot and celery were still crunchy giving the dish a bit of texture as the egg noodle was nice and pillowy soft. There were five rather large oysters nestled on top of the dish. The presentation was rather impressive. The wait staff were very attentive, whisking my empty plates almost as soon as I emptied them, and asked me if I wanted refills for my beverages almost before I finished them.I really enjoyed my dinner at Poirier's on the River and urge anyone interested in Cajun food to stop by and give them a try.
