We wanted to have something fast, by the water, and most importantly, something enjoyable. So, we ended up giving a chance to one of the popular places in Point Loma, right on the harbor, which was serving fresh seafood. It is a self-serving place. You give your order inside, at the register, and if you order a drink, the cashier gives you the drink right away, and the food comes out later; by calling your number. We wanted to eat there, and even so, everything came out in to-go boxes. There are very limited tables for a very crowded place, so it is hard to get a table; especially with an umbrella. This means you should get ready to hunt a table lolFood came out relatively fast even though they were very busy. My husband got their Squid Plate and a draft beer. The plate included the french fries and coleslaw. I got the Crabcake Sandwich and one of their draft lager beer; which I forgot the name of lol. It was the cashier's recommendation. He even let me get a taste before ordering it. Everything was perfect; the beers were good, the seafood was fresh, cooked perfectly fine. Even though some of them were deep-fried, they were good; not oily. OMG to their tartar sauce. I see why it is famous now. Perfect, perfect and perfect. I loved it a lot. However, I just wish that they toasted the sandwich bread. It would make it even more enjoyable. I will be back to try other items.

This is strictly SELF - Service. If you're going to pay top dollar for self-service, shop around. They have the tourist business, but as locals we are looking for a good, consistent restaurant--not a self serve at full service restaurant prices. Based on 2 recent visits:We ate fish/fries/slaw on 7/13. It was ok, but pricey (over $40). The meals were in easy to manage "clamshell" containers. The new upstairs dining has good ambiance and view.On 7/25, we paid $45 for a halibut sand, fries, slaw ($25!) and a children's platter. We were surprised when everything was stuffed in a brown bag (self service is the only option). When questioned, the employee said the bag was "the way we do it." Well, the (mediocre to poor) fries were not contained, so they were all over the bag. The sandwich was wrapped in a too-small paper, and was falling apart--just a messy way of ruining quality food. McDonalds does better!!Later, when I spoke with the manager, he said this was the way they do it and we should have said something (but we did--no consideration offered--employee blew us off)! That is the attitude, and we won't be going back. Too many options in S.D. to put up with this slacker outfit that is slowly ruining their reputation that took years to build.

We used to come here when we lived in San Diego. Some reviews mention the simplicity of the sandwiches, but I believe that's part of their charm. Their signature sandwich is a slice of sourdough bread with fried fish and delicious tartar sauce. My partner ordered the spicy shrimp sandwich for old times' sake and was not disappointed. Our son initially didn't want to eat anything but took one bite of the sandwich and ended up eating half of it.I do not recall them having the upstairs outdoor seating before. We didn't have a chance to try it out because our dogs were with us, so we ate our food on the outdoor cement benches with seagulls and pigeons next to the ocean. The ambiance and taste were just as we remembered, and we enjoyed it very much. This is a fish market with some fast food options. You need to adjust your expectations. My rating is based on what I tried there, which is very limited, but it was very delicious. Five stars to the tartar sauce.

Full service seafood market right on the bay. The place has been around for over 70years. Most come for the super fresh fish to be cooked to order. I ordered the combo plate (cod, crab cake, shrimp) came with slaw and fries ($20 including tax). The fries were ok and I didn't care at all for the dressing on the slaw and only reason for not giving 5 stars. Everything else from the fish to service to the views were perfect. Parking is free (60 minutes) and there is plenty of seating indoor, on their covered balcony, or outside on the cement benches. The view of the bay and the working fishing boats is beautiful. Place is always packed with tourists and locals but they are still able to get your orders out pretty quickly. Place is great for small or medium groups.

I really wanted to like this place as a friend had hyped it up and took us here after a morning hike. I love me some ceviche and like to try different recipes wherever they're offered. I should have known better seeing this one was "Mrs. Kelly's ceviche" because that told me all I really needed to know. And yet I ordered it anyways, hungry and eager for lunch. I had to order chips on the side because they are not included with the order. The ceviche is prepackaged so it does make me curious how far in advance it's made. It's $9 for a 4 oz container so definitely on the pricey side as far as ceviche goes. When it came time to eat, I was so disappointed. I should've ordered something fried off the menu like everyone else did. The marinade was something else, and I can't quite describe it as I'm not really sure what I ate. There was fish, lemon, tomato, some herbs, but something made it more viscous than it needed to be. It wasn't as tangy, fresh, or good as I would've expected it to be. Ceviche is pretty basic and hard to mess up and yet this one was not it. I ate it anyways and prayed for bathroom mercy later on (which thankfully I did get). Pretty much the only draw for me was the view, the weather was beautiful and if you snag a table upstairs outside you get a great view of the marina. They have an attendant who is super attentive and friendly, but the workers downstairs were not as friendly and honestly it seemed to bother them when I asked any questions - like if the ceviche came with chips.

Personally, I've never been a fan of fish until I was introduced to Point Loma Seafoods. So very tasty and flaky. The counter service is quick and effortless. The choice of seating is immense. Personally I prefer out front because it is exceedingly pet friendly. I also like that they offer smaller portions for those of us that don't have a huge appetite. I do order my fish and fries extra crispy, with several slices of lemon and a lot of tater sauce. The are is pristine and you cannot be at the weather, perfect. I'm a huge fan, and consistent customer.

Seriously the best fish market near downtown SD. We get our sushi grade fish here for at home sushi night. The fish is always a healthy serving for fillets and I love the plates served with rice and veg. The beer list is great and there's nothing better than an ice cold pint and a fresh fish taco.

Flabbergasted ...I took my wife to experience some Fresh Local Seafood last Thursday 08/08/2024. At first glance we were greeted with a delightful sight !Large Refrigerated glass Cases Filled with (fresh?) Fish. Hungry with Anxious Delight I scanned the Extra Large Menu glaring down at us ...... Then I scanned it again with disbelief ! NOT 1 (ONE) SINGLE ITEM THEY PREPARE OR SERVE IS FRESH OR LOCAL !!! WTH ????If y'all like fish "Point Loma Sea Food" does "sell" it. (U cook it). However .... The only items their chefs are allowed prepare (menu offerings) are frozen and or flown in from foreign lands ?Keep in mind that this establishment is On The Same Dock as the Largest Deep Sea Fishing Port in San Diego. Wow ! Talk About A Missed Opportunity
