Windmill Ice Cream

I stopped in after having dinner at Harold's Inn right next door one evening... Their menu is pretty large, loaded with shakes, various novelties like sundaes, their version of a "Blizzard", etc. I opted for their version of the Blizzard and it was decent, until I got to the bottom third and there was no topping down there, because they didn't blend it properly. Service also wasn't very happy and friendly, which you expect from an ice cream joint.Experience was "meh!"

The windmill is the center of this small town. EVERYONE (and I mean everyone) knows the windmill. Stop by for their mini golf (fantastic during fall!!) and a soft serve. & their limited time specials are also amazing

Definitely one of my favorite ice cream spots around town, and in addition, it is a great place to mini golf as well! We went on a Thursday and found out that it was date night, which means mini golfing is buy one get one free (great surprise)! The actual golf course was 18 holes, and each hole was unique which I believe is a rare find when you're mini golfing. We enjoyed ourselves and didn't get bored halfway through like we have at other repetitive courses. After golfing, we of course had to get ice cream! They have hard ice cream, soft serve, sundaes, and every other type of ice cream imaginable! I got the cotton candy soft serve and it was DELICIOUS! It was not overwhelming sweet, but instead it had a subtle, smooth cotton candy flavor. I would surely get it again on my next visit... which I plan to be very soon!

First time eating here, after a round of mini golf. I had the strawberry sundae, which was definitely large for a medium serving! The ratio of toppings to soft serve was a little off, I was left with a lot of plain ice cream near the end. There are several tables in the back, with a view of the golf course. Lots of options on the menu, a little overpriced but still on par with some ice cream places I've been to.

So I grew up just down the street. It was always a special treat to come here for mini golf and really yummy ice cream.Recently I was at the cemetery next door to visit the grave sites of my grandparents and decided to swing by the Windmill for a bit fudge sundae since it's what my nana and I always ordered. The delicious ice cream certainly had all of the memories rushing back.

I haven't been mini-golfing in years and we had ice cream afterwards. The golf area could use some updating but it's fun and my daughter enjoyed her strawberry soft serve ice cream. I had a blue raspberry slushy. I had a birthday party here years ago. I enjoyed the nostalgia of the place and going with my 4 year old daughter.

Came here for the first time. I ordered the fudge nutty bar, but they gave me the turtle bar because they ran out of the fudge nutty bar. Hubby ordered their frozen yogurt with 2 flavors. Total came out to around $7.What's Hot- Good for the kiddies. It's definitely family friendly with the mini golf feature.- Menu variety. Hubby and I originally thought this place only does sweet treats, but they do have a short menu of savory options, like fries (which you can order with chili and/or cheese), funnel cakes, burgers, hot dogs, etc... Not so bad. They have a pretty good variety of sweet treat options- milkshakes, ice cream bars (which they hand make), frozen yogurt, etc...- Quality. My turtle bar was delish. Vanilla ice cream, with pecans on one side, bits of caramel between the nuts, and the entire bar dipped in chocolate. You can definitely tell it's handmade and it was yummy.- Price. Decently priced. Less than $10 for our 2 ice creams, which was cool, especially for what you order.What's Not- They're limited as to how you order their frozen yogurt flavor. Hubby originally wanted the pina colada flavor with a 2nd flavor. The cashier told him they can't put certain flavors together, because of which machine it comes out of. Not customer friendly. This place has a large variety of frozen yogurt/soft serve flavors. It doesn't make sense that they can't accommodate pairing the flavors together. If it comes out of different machines, that means you'll have 2 swirls of frozen yogurt from 2 machines instead of the flavors swirled together. It's definitely possible. Makes me wonder what other limitations they have with their menu.- Wait time. This place appears to be popular with the locals. When it's busy, it's busy. Hubby and I waited a decent time- over 10 minutes- for our 2 ice creams. My point? Be prepared. Because this place is geared towards families with kids, that also means to be prepared for the other elements- a lot of kids, noise, pets, etc... Final AnswerWilling to come back here, but may not be a first choice.k

I grew up in Hopewell, and the Windmill is our go to place for the best "Snow storms"! Great place for teens and families with children to hang out, whether for ice cream or a round of mini-golf. Nice location, family run business right next to Harold's Inn!

Out of town for work and this place gave me my ice cream fix. Parking lot was almost full when I got there and they still managed to serve me pretty quick for how many ppl were in line. I ordered some vanilla soft serve in a cup with crunch coat blended in. This is by far the most topping I've ever been give at an ice cream shop so each bite had the same amount blended as the last bite. Staff seemed friendly and accommodating.

Can't believe it doesn't have higher reviews! Best soft serve in Pittsburgh sincerely! And don't even get me started on how delicious their chocolate chip cookie ice cream sandwiches are. Must try!
