Viva Los Tacos

College student hangout. If you're looking for a cheap taco and willing to compromise your tastebuds and health, then try this place. I tried 2 different alcoholic drinks but couldn't force myself to drink them. The tacos and egg rolls were greasy gross and the meat was not flavorful. This is college food best left to be eaten by the students. More refined palates will want to pass on this place.

A group of six us came on a Tuesday evening to check out Viva Los Tacos which is one of the establishments that replaced The O (RIP). We were able to make happy hour (weekdays 4-6pm, half off frozen margaritas and drafts) and while my mango margarita did taste good, I'm not sure if it had alcohol in it and tasted more just like a slushy. While our waitress was pleasant enough, she must have been on the newer side because she had trouble finding our items on her screen, misunderstood one of our taco orders, and left our frozen margaritas on the bar for a little while so they were slightly melted by the time they got to us. Vibe wise, the place is clearly newer and pretty big with a wall of hot sauces on the ground floor, a bar and a bunch of seats on the first floor, a fairly spacious second floor, and outside seating available. For food we got the combo platter with chips, queso, and guacamole along with the calle fries. The queso tasted fine but it felt like it was just melted down Velveeta and the guacamole was looking a little on the brown side. The salsa was yummy though. The fries were just okay. They could've been crispier but the serving was pretty large. I got the quesabirria taco which was easily my favorite thing I got. It was crispy with good flavor. My honey chipotle carnitas taco didn't really have those advertised flavors and quite frankly, I forgot until writing this review what the flavor was. My friend's grilled cauliflower taco was cold for some reason. My other friend did say that she liked her southern chicken taco, though. Overall, it's an okay spot to grab a casual meal if you're not looking for something super authentic and want to be economical. I would go again for happy hour but probably not the food.

the food? two stars. the vibe? four stars. overall experience? three stars. most of the food on the menu is not good at all, but, if you're with a group of people, i would order the nacho platter to split. just make it vegetarian because the meat really didn't add anything to the dish. the frozen margs (what they're most known for) always contain varying quantities of alcohol and will also always give you a brain freeze.honestly this place is best for large groups of people because it's a convenient place to meet up and the service is usually pretty fast. to end this i'll just say i've made many memories at vivas and none of them are about the food or drinks.

Yo, that diablo roja sauce is REALLY spicy! Like really, REALLY spicy!The food is fresh and comes out fast, and the service is full of smiles. The entire restaurant gets REALLY busy around margarita o'clock, so come early if you want to have a quiet night out.

I'm not sure why this place gets so many negative reviews. I had a pretty good meal from here. Nothing outstanding, but definitely satisfying. It's definitely an Americanized place in my opinion but serves decent food. I ordered the Birrria tacos with the consomme.The tacos came in a great portion, and the price was reasonable. They were packed with meat and cheese (I believe the meat was beef). The meat was also tender and flavorful. Cheese was average, not sure what kind. The shell for the taco was a little flimsy and greasy, though. It came with the complimentary consommé. This was a great addition to the meal, with some extra flavor and a tad bit of spice. The consommé portion was great as well.All in all, a solid place for Americanized Mexican food. The prices are quite reasonable and the portions are good. I liked the birria tacos and it was my first time trying this item.

This is a cute little spot in Oakland. Love the name and decor. Our bartender was quick and efficient. My drinks were good but not super stand out. The tacos looked excellent and I look forward to a future visit to try them!

Portion sizes are huge, especially the nachos (definitely can be shared amongst 3 people). Quick service, food (tacos and nachos) hits the spot. This is definitely a spot to go with friends. There's in and out door seating.

The portions are pretty good here. The tacos were much bigger than I expected. The taste is average and same goes for the margs. My friend unfortunately found a fly in her drink, which was kind of a bummer. Service isn't outstanding, but the workers are all college students and the customers are also all college students so I don't really mind :)The half off late nights deals are really nice though.

Horrible service I only got 2 of my 3 tacos and I got a salad instead of chips and salsa. Said no onions got onions in it. Tacos also have no cheese. The longer this place is open the worse it has been getting

If you are looking for really crappy food and the worst service, then come here. My friends and I were overcharged and when we politely requested them to explain the charges, the lady started being very rude and arrogant! They overcharged us and she was horrible to another group of teens present there too. She overcharged them too. What's the point of the menu if you don't follow it?Take my word for it - DON'T GO HERE.
