Food- 5/5. The dhosa with potato's and curries are amazing. I think about them often, and enjoyed their crunchy crepe texture. Great value and taste. Get The DHOSA. Ambiance 3/5. Fine, nothing special. Service 5/5. The servers were great, and the food came out very quickly. 5 - I will seek this restaurant out and convince skeptical friends to eat here.4 - I often eat here or would be happy eating here.3 - if someone in my group wants to go here, why not?2 - I will take some convincing to go back.1 - You cannot convince me to go back.

We came on a Saturday evening, so it may have been busier than usual, since the food was not quick to come out. We ordered a Chili Paneer Dry (appetizer), 'Tomatoes, Chili & Onion Uthappam', Mysore Masala Dosa, and a Spicy Andhra Sada Dosa. The Chili Paneer Dry tasted ok, but funnily enough, the Chili Paneer *Dry* was actually more wet than expected. I don't know how well Indo-Chinese is done here. Both the dosas were not as crispy as we would like, and they were just ok. The masala in the dosa was also just ok. The Uthappam tasted the best, but even that could've been improved. The dosas and uthappam came out with sambar and coconut chutney. I wish they also provided more chutneys. Sambar was also not that impressive, though the spice level was nice. We always love a South Indian vegetarian restaurant, so we may likely come back. But our experience paled in comparison to other South Indian vegetarian restaurants in other cities, like NY's Sarvana Bhavan. It might just have been too busy a time causing the lack of great quality and slow service. Like any other similar restaurant, ambiance was nothing worthy of mention. There is always room for improvement! Given that the restaurant is close to the Hindu temple, it will always come in useful though.

I've been meaning to try Udipi for a while and I am glad I finally did! They were very helpful and accommodating for our large group, filling our waters frequently and ensuring we had what we needed. I enjoyed the appetizer platter and the Mysore masala dosa was delicious. I'd love to try some other items as well.

Worth all the hype! This little hole in the wall mom and pop shop may not appear to be much on the outside...but the food is incredible. As soon as I stepped out of my car I was hit with a wonderful smell of curry, seasonings, and bread. I was soo excited!!I got the appetizer sampler to try a little of everything and it was amazing!! I also got garlic nan which was incredible, and the Mysore Masala Dosa which I haven't tried yet because I got wayy too stuffed - looks fantastic. Overall, I can't wait to be back! Love authentic restaurants

A great South Indian pure vegetarian spot in Monroeville (way out in the sticks, so it's a bit of a drive). The eggplant dish I got from the photo doesn't look like much, but the spice and flavor were incredible (and it will fill you up too; I'm glad I didn't order bread because there would not have been room!) The saffron vermicelli dessert was warm and comforting too. The restaurant was clean and service was pretty decent too so no complaints there. It's a bit far from where I live but next time I happen to be back in Monroeville, I'll pay a visit to try some other dishes. Great place!

Finally found one of the best vegetarian Indian spot in town. This hits the spot for me and brings me back home. Everything was cooked to perfection! Staff are super friendly and good are served quickly. This would a typical mom and pop restaurant decor. No frills and people usually go there for its food. Super convenient for temple goers nearby. The food we ordered was based off our friend's recommendation. I would totally go back there for it all again.

This is an UNBELIEVABLE Indian restaurant. I'm from NYC and am totally impressed by the food here. It is a mom and pop spot and very authentic. The flavors are incredible. If I'm back in Pittsburgh I will absolutely come back.

After always reading about Udipi in PGH Magazine and after hearing rave reviews from a good friend, I knew I needed to try Udipi out. Turns out, the restaurant is only 5 mins from my brother's work, so on a recent visit back home, we stopped in for dinner on a Saturday night. If you didn't know to look for Udipi, you would definitely miss it - it's located in an unassuming storefront right off the highway with some signage but not obnoxious advertisement. We found a parking spot, and for a party of 3, we were easily seated despite it seeming pretty busy. The restaurant itself is no-frills - basic booths with some artwork on the wall, nothing too fancy (honestly feels a little diner-esque). They do pack a good number of people in there - the seating went back much further than originally met the eye. Our server was attentive and helpful, providing suggestions and honesty in regards to the spiciness of the dishes. The menu is quite extensive - many, many different options to pick from! Based on recommendations from friends and from the Yelp reviews, we started with the idli and each ordered a different dosa. The idli was tasty - the patties were hearty yet fluffy, and the spicy sambhar was nicely balanced with the relatively cool coconut chutney. It was a good starter! For dosas...they had sooo many to pick from! It was a tough decision, but I opted for the spring dosa, my husband for the spicy andhra masala dosa, and my brother for the mysore masala dosa. Each was presented with a crispy case and very flavorful fillings. I loved the veggies in mine - they were a great consistency with not-to-spicy of flavor that blended well with the potatoes. My husband's and brother's dosas were definitely spicier, but they enjoyed their respective options. This was my first time having a "real" dosa (previously ordered one for takeout from another location, but the integrity got a little compromised so it was a different experience), and I was quite pleased! The dosas were enough to round out our meals, but I am still very intrigued by other menu items, including the highly praised mango lassi. For the price point, quality, and quantity of food, you can't go wrong with Udipi! There is something for everyone, and you won't even notice the lacking meat options on the menu. Really glad I finally had a chance to check it out, and I'm already looking forward to a return trip!

Five of us stopped by Udipi on a Sunday morning right when they opened at 11:30am. Driving up to the restaurant, it looks very unassuming and hole in the wall like. We got our food very quickly. I will note, it's vegetarian South Indian food, which is fairly different from what you think of as your typical Indian food that is North Indian. All of our dishes were pretty good. Thankfully, my friend is Indian and she knew what to order because I had no clue what anything was. Overall, it was a nice experience with authentic South Indian food and I would recommend it if that your thing!

This restaurant is located between 3 temples in the Pittsburgh area. The temples include Sai Baba Temple, venkateshwara Temple, and the Jain temple. We chose this place based on my friends recommendation, location (convenience), and to please my dad, who was craving for some Indian food. The place was diversified and crowded with an equal distribution of South Asians, Middle Eastern, and Caucasians. The food, which included a blend of chaat (indian comfort food), soup, South Indian and indo Chinese, was good. I loved the chaat, and the gobi manchurian was good, but I have had better South Indian food, especially the chutney and idly. The restaurant was crowded. The service was good. They took a Lil longer to take the order, but the food arrived fairly quickly. They do have some combos, but the price for combo vs. Ordering individually was a mere dollar difference. The restaurant makes you feel like eating in an old local restaurant in India. It's not all about ambiance when you see the crowd at this restaurant.
