Review is for lunch. Our group of four had to find something quick in order to make a meeting. We were driving through some pretty scenic, but remote areas of Pennsylvania and found this place. From the road it looked like a fancy mansion surrounded by a historic old town with a mixture of charming buildings and dilapidated buildings. We even saw a parking lot nearby charging a quarter to park for 6 hours. Guess they never updated the price from colonial times. The restaurant itself is gorgeous, with Christmas decorations and wooden furniture. Very historic and would be awesome for a company party. We elected to eat in the downstairs Carpetbagger Bar for a more casual bite.Everyone in my team enjoyed the food. The two vegetarians each had the walnut-gorgonzola pizza which looked like dessert with all they honey drizzled on top. I, being one of the carnivores, got the carpetbagger burger. Thick, juicy ground chuck patty (cooked medium) with good amount if cheese melted on. Burger I give 4 stars. The homemade BBQ chips were thinly sliced and had good crunch, but was a tad over-seasoned for me, so 3 stars. Great service and nice ambiance, so rounding up for 4 stars. I could imagine eating upstairs in the main dining room to be awesome, but the downstairs bar is a pretty good gastropub in its own right.

Ambiance is great, don't get me wrong. We've waited a year to get here!!! The place was empty on a Saturday night. The surroundings were phenomenal. The service was mediocre, even though our waitress was excellent. She was worn out with the 3 floors she had to cover. The owners were present and we spent a significant amount of time speaking with them after our amazing meal. The food was excellent. The food, artwork & decorations were excellent, but unfortunately this is the worst location of a restaurant ever... if you like eating alone, this is a great place to be...

What an awesome find - This place is really nice!! We were driving through Brownsville and wa-la we're here. We had dinner in the tavern in the basement. This place oozes ambience and a period correct sexiness that just draws you in. The food is typical style bar food only with a twist of style and sophistication. We had the Lobster Mac & Cheese, Thai Style Wings, and an amazing Flat Bread Pizza. Honestly if you want great food, a friendly atmosphere, and a wonderful evening out.....This is your place.

One of our favorite date nights/special event places around! The house in itself is beautiful and makes you feel like you've traveled back in time. The food is elegantly prepared and absolutely delicious! I had the prime rib once (Saturday's only), which was to die for, and last night I had the crispy duck in a blueberry reduction-BOMB! The service is great as well. I would highly recommend!

Stopped here for lunch and glad I did. This building appears to be an old estate style home that was beautifully renovated. We were given an a choice of eating on the first floor, which was elegant, or downstairs at the tavern. We picked the tavern. We were the only guests for a late lunch. Customer service was excellent! The menu was varied. We tried the loaded tater tot appetizer with bacon, Gouda cheese and scallions. The tots were crunchy on the outside and moist on the inside. However, they were drenched in Gouda cheese, causing many of the tots to be soggy. That being said, the smoky Gouda was delicious, but there simply was too much. Also served with the tots was Giardiniera, which is pickled vegetables. It didn't make sense with the tots-steamed veggies would have been a great alternative, especially with the cheese. No one ate the veggies so it was a waste. I would order it again, but tell them to leave the veggies off. We also ordered the Brussels sprouts appetizer, which are described as "Crispy Shredded Sprouts with Balsamic Glaze Pancetta, Gorgonzola and Sea Salt." These were fantastic and I don't even like Brussels sprouts.! Each appetizer is easily enough for 2-3 people. We decided to split a chicken sandwich which was served with fries. The fries were wimpy and the herbed chicken was flavorless. However, we had told the server that we were sharing so they served us each our own basket with the sandwich split and our own fries. I thought that was an excellent touch. So, the food was average. But the atmosphere was great. The bar area is all wood and very inviting and clean. We stayed for a bit after lunch and enjoyed a Moscow mule and a craft beer. They have a chalkboard with various drinks/beers that are available. When we were done we were told there was a gift shop on the third floor. This building is gorgeous! We went upstairs and it is adorable! It's not a gift shop! It is more like several small boutiques. Each room has a theme: a nursery room with baby items, a purses and bags room, a tea room with tea sets and china, an antique room, a women's clothing room and a bathroom with candles, soaps etc. it was fun to browse and pick up some gifts for family at home.If you are in the area, stop in for a few drinks in the tavern, grab some food, and visit the third floor. It's worth a visit! Wish we lived closer!

We tried a new place and about a 40 minute drive from the South Hills of Pittsburgh. Our trip was well worth it! Keeping this review simple everyone in our party had great meals .... but the goat cheese appetizer was to die for, a combination of tang and sweet. We will be back with more foodie friends.

Good news. Bad news.....It's located in the heart of burned out Brownsville . If it were in Mount Lebanon, they would be taking reservations a month in advance. It has more quarter-sawn oak wood trim in it than any building I've ever seen, lots of ambience if that's important to you.It is extremely good, but it is extremely expensive $$$$The portions of everything is pretty small. There was no bread or rolls offered at all. Maybe I should've asked for them. The funny thing is that they used to have really good rolls before they closed before Covid. This restaurant will never be visited with any frequency because it's just too expensive. We will save it for very very special occasions every six months or so.

Beautiful restaurant. Historic and grand. They were closed for a few years and we missed it! So happy they reopened. Our first time back was somewhat disappointing. Food was delicious but small servings and high priced. We really missed the delicious rolls they used to serve with every meal. We left hungry and our wallet was lighter. Our service was good. The chef was very enthusiastic and friendly. We will try again but wait a little bit first. Hope they have great success!

5/5 for appetizers0/5 for entrees.A martini took 30 minutes to get to the table because of some elusive olives.I don't think the chefs here have ever tasted the food they serve. The shrimp & grits were completely flavorless. I would've been better off with a bowl of cream of wheat. Two of us got the 12oz lobster tail. It was tough, chewy, and flavorless. If the texture wasnt enough to put me the lack of flavor definitely was. When the garlic mashed potatoes and bread rolls were the best things on the table, a meal costing $200 for 4 people could be better spent at McDonalds. The only redeeming factor of this restaurant were the appetizers. If i were to ever come back i'd order exclusively from the appetizer menu though i doubt i will. Our hostess/food-runner/waitress/bartender, was stretched too thin, between serving the downstairs tavern and the upstairs restaurant, our seemingly high school aged server would benefit greatly from some proper training, which it seems the restaurant has failed to provide her. She tried her hardest. With a setting this gorgeous, its tragic the menu doesnt hold up.UPDATE: 3 out of 4 people in our party got food poisoning. (Believed to be from the seafood. I contacted the allegheny county health departmentf so hopefully this is resolved.
