I'm just amazed by this local butcher shop. Besides being a piece of my childhood, they have meat that is fresher, better quality, and better priced than your typical grocery store. Don't accept second best when you can buy something better and at the same support your local neighborhood store.Besides that, they have things you can't get anywhere else. Croatian Kielbasa, how wonderful is that?Everybody that works here is very helpful, and the owner is a perfect gentleman.

Tom Fridays Market opened in 1955. The store sells local farms' meats, including beef, pork, and chicken. The store also sells some dairy products, produce, packaged foods, cleaning supplies, etcetera. Thanks to these other Yelp reviews, I decided to visit this store. At the meat counter, two employees spoke very courteously to my husband and me. They recommended that we purchase filet mignons, and we agreed to buy four. Next, the cashier immediately served us and spoke very nicely. The filet mignons were small, so the four together weighed slightly less than one pound. My husband said that the filet mignons contained more fat than the filet mignons that he buys from other stores. We did think that the filet mignons were tender and flavorful.

Truly a one-of -a-kind establishment. If one prefers quality meats and supporting locally-owned businesses, this is the place. It's also the place to go if you care to see what Pittsburgh and true Pittsburghers are all about. Characters of all walks of life pass in, and out, of this bustling place and unknowingly provide entertainment as you shop. Dedicated employees offer quick, helpful service and some light-hearted joking on the side with their regular customers.

Amazing market that I've been wanting to visit. Decided to go with some filets that are cut to order. We cooked them and they were totally amazing, you could cut the meat with a fork. The staff is super friendly and helpful. It's great they open at 8am on a Saturday, I can drive over early to get what I need and carry on with my day.

Great local butcher shop and I come here often! Tom and his team are kind and very friendly. So why did I give 4 stars? They really need to have a better (perhaps electronic) system to manage orders. This year for Thanksgiving, they lost my Turkey order and Tom hooked me up with an extra they had. Today, I picked up my Prime Rib for Christmas and after witnessing the worker going through several stacks of papers in 2 different bins, they were able to quickly find my order (phew!). I'll continue to patronage here but wish I didn't feel concerned when I come to pick up special orders.

Years ago Groupon had a special for this market which put it on my radar. Small, well run, meat market with weekly specials. I came for the lebanon bologne which comes out of Pennsylvania Dutch country. I also wanted the thuringer that I had as a kid that you cannot get in my hometown of Columbus Ohio. I should have come in on the first day of the sale for the thuringer because they quickly sold out by the morning of the second day. Oh well. There where 3 kinds of lebanon bologne, regular, sweet and chipotle. The chipotle is supposed to be sweet and not spicy but I got my favorite, sweet. Competently helped, my bologne was sliced thin. As a matter of fact it was sliced the best I have ever have and so patiently too because it is a pain in the neck for them. I enjoyed the Pittsburgh friendly conversation. We met Tom Friday, yes there is a Tom Friday, with his big smile and friendly demeanor. On the way out, we passed by a cooler with lots of deli items and picked up some wonderful looking deep orange cheddar cheese. They even had homemade jerky! Lots of various things that would be perfect for a night of small munchies with wine. The store itself is small, but is packed full of groceries. You want Mancini bread, they have it. Isaly's BBQ sauce..yep. Pittsburgh Mustard..yep. Sauerkraut out of a barrel..yep. Ice Cream, yep, smoked turkey wing, yep. This is a great little store. Now for the piece of resistance, the meat. Their butcher shop has nicely trimmed meat, old school. They also have lots of freezer specials for freezers big and small. Now my freezer is 200 miles away and hubby is getting on me to "eat it down". I am doing pretty well with it but I can tell you, when it gets low on meat, I am coming into the Burgh and grabbing some freezer specials. And Kudos to the nice young man who sliced my lunchmeat. This is worth the drive, even from Columbus Ohio!

Wow...what was once one of the last true butcher shops in Pittsburgh is gone....same name....not the same service or quality...what once had full meat cases are now empty...going to Tom Fridays was an experience....not any more...its a disappointment.....where there used to be butchers in white frocks are gone...no one says hello....its now space for dollars....I won't go back....there stuffed pork chips and hand cut meats are a thing of the past....Tom Friday is and was a great owner...I hope he takes his name off the awning soon...they are already destroying a legacy that was an icon for true butchers in Pittsburgh...I miss you Tom.

Nice hole in the wall. Meat quality is phenomenal. Get there early to avoid them running out of items. It's a small mom and pop, but the trip is worth it. You can also call ahead if you need an order for a party or something.
