Probably THE only store in Pgh that sells warabimochiko.

The store will have your basic Japanese items but that's about it. If you're looking for anything more, you're better off going to a larger Asian market. The produce is a hit or miss. I've gotten some veggies for a decent price with decent quantity there but it's not always the most fresh, so be sure to look closely before you buy. The store is pricier than what you'd pay elsewhere but as this is the only Asian market in the immediate area, you just have to put up with it. They do require masks for customers but they don't wear masks themselves? I also tried taking a picture to send to someone to ask what they'd like from the store but was rudely told I could not take pictures in the store by the man. He stared at me for a while after that which turned me off from making any more purchases.

I'm very happy to report that this wonderful Japanese market is alive and well during these strange COVID times. They are extremely careful, allowing only 5 customers inside at a time. Masks are required, as is social distancing. They also provide you with required plastic gloves to wear, in order to keep their products clean and safe.Of course, they still have their WONDERFUL selection of packaged and fresh goods, including noodles, rice, proteins, tofu, vegetables and other items needed for authentic Japanese-style cooking at home. This is by far the most Japan-centric market in town, and we love it!They even have Japanese cook wear and other novelties! Try them out!Tonight, it's kani nabe hot pot, and tomorrow, shabu-shabu!Arigato gozaimasu!

Love this place! They have all my favorite snacks as well as covering their other bases (frozen, cooking supplies, produce, etc.) Staff is super friendly and I love looking at the cute pastries they have at the register although I have yet to try! Sometimes there is a line of one or two people to get in because covid, and the parking lot can be dicey. All things considered tho, worth a trip!

I was a customary customer but I not coming anymore. I don't know why owner lives in America if he doesn't like to live here. He asked once: "why did you left Japan if is much better than here?" But the reason I'm very disappointed is because I always tried to be very polite when coming to this store. I was wearing mask and waiting outside hanging plastic gloves without touching anything. However he still came from the kitchen came outside screaming: "you cannot touch anything in this store with this gloves!!" I said: "yes, I know" and he kept repeating that over and over again as if I was deaf. There's no reason at all for he being so stupid and rude because I wasn't touching anything and I was just waiting from outside. I'm very disappointed with such rude attitude.

Not a fan. My sis and I support all our fellow Asian establishments as much as we can and my younger sis was looking forward to coming to this Tokyo mart for Japanese specialties. Their selection is very small and unless you have something very nichely Japanese, you can find better selection at any of the other Asian Marts in Pittsburgh's strip or sq. Hill. Also if it is that niche then chances are you won't find it here anyway or it's of questionable quality. We had the unfortunate experience to be serviced by the husband and he was extremely rude and condescending. Glaring at us constantly and if you are browsing he will not like your presence at all and will show it. Don't worry white patrons, we're Asian and he treats us poorly too. Maybe we'll support them again, but there's plenty of other Asian Marts that will treat you better and have a decent selection of Asian snacks.

I attempted to visit this grocery store and was treated extremely rudely for no apparent reason. Then asked to leave the store in an aggressive manner. Will never return.

The new owner ddoesn't welcome customers. No greeting, no smiling. Cashier is the same way. The store is not fully socked, fridges are broken, and the whole play is pretty dingy now.

the owner was very helpful, and the store had exactly what I wanted. I had gone to the other Asian grocery stores with no luck.

Best store for Japanese food and groceries. The owners know how to take care of the fish. Their sushi-grade fish is outstanding.
