The outpost is adorable, scenic and peaceful, it's situated near the West Newton bridge along the Yough river. This outdoor eatery is an arm of the Waypoint Youth and Community Center giving children experience in operating a small business.Smash burgers were juicy as well as tasty, hot dogs are cooked perfectly and fries delish.The team working today were quick, friendly and courteous. Drive back to MD via PA. Great stop at this trail side burger joint. Melt in your mouth smash burgers. We were traveling with our dogs so added bonus to be able to dine riverside, with pets and have a good meal.

Wowowowow! After the halfway point of our 28 mile ride, we were hungry and in need of a respite. Just before the West Newton bridge was The Outpost, a food truck evidently known for their smash burgers. Next door was the brewery truck, alas not yet open. With a 14 mile trip back, beer may not have been the best idea anyway. We split a monster burger and a side order of fries. Wow! Crispy patties, melted American cheese, grilled onions, lettuce, tomato, oh and bacon. Perfect for sharing. Mike always evaluates burgers on the grilled bun and this quickly rose to first place on his list. The pleasant surprise though was the amazingly friendly young men running the business. They were so polite and worked together as a team, constantly encouraging each other. Turns out that The Outpost is a project of Waypoint Youth and Community Center! A great burger for a great cause. We can't wait to return.

Absolutely a gem. You must stop by if you're biking or floating the river. You won't be disappointed. The smash burger is to die for. You can get some shaved ice to cool down. They're closed Tuesdays and Thursdays. Check them out on Facebook at "the Outpost Eatery"

Had to give this place a try after my son raved over it so many times. I was not disappointed! The original smash burger was awesome! I also had the poutine fries. Had mushrooms on top also. So good! The service was great but it was a Friday evening and our wait was a bit long. But it was pleasant as they had live music there outside while we waited. This is absolutely the best place around for smash burgers!

What a gem. From outstanding juicy burgers to perfectly cooked fries - - all served up with a gorgeous view. And to top it off my Mom and I enjoyed a super tasty Mango shaved ice! The service was great. These people know what the are doing!

Fantastic burgers, amazing staff with a beautiful view of the river. In my opinion this is the best place to eat on the GAP trail

Excellent steak hoagie... should consider toasting the bun. Excellent burgers, excellent steak fries and cheese. I recommend trying them before the end of the season.

Such a wonderful outdoor eatery. The service is top notch and the food is delicious. It's right alongside the bike trail going through west newton, it was such a breath of fresh air to stop and enjoy a snowy (snow cone) and a juicy smash burger with a fiery twist. You get to sit along side the youghiogheny river, eat and rest before riding out down the trail. I recommend you stop by either biking on the trail or driving through west newton, pa
