I stopped by here a couple of Thursday evenings ago with my wife for dinner. Our neighborhood had signed up a number of food trucks to come on Thursdays and this Thursday happened to be The Mac and Gold Truck. Since it's a food truck, there's not too much to say about it other than it's a nice yellow color that reminds you of cheese. For dinner on this day I decided to go with the buffalo chicken Mac and cheese while my wife went with the lobster Mac and cheese. There was maybe a 5 minute wait between ordering and our food being ready and afterwards we headed back to our house to eat. My buffalo Mac and cheese ended up being quite good as both the buffalo chicken and blue cheese added great flavor to the dish. However, as it should be, the Mac and cheese was the star. The pasta itself was cooked nicely and the cheese sauce had a great flavor to it. There was an ample amount of it too and which means that I was able to enjoy Each and every piece of pasta. My wife really enjoyed hers too and we were both pleased that the lobster wasn't exorbitantly priced. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. Both my wife and I enjoyed our Mac and cheese and I would be interested in trying more of their flavors.

Considering I'm not a giant mac & cheese person, this was a great surprise! The noodles were cooked perfectly and it wasn't overly cheesy. You can order pre-selected bowls or you can add toppings on top of plain noodles & cheese. My boyfriend and I both got large bowls since we were super hungry and I ended up finishing his bowl. They were delicious!

To start off, I LOVE food trucks. Now, I'm not sure if that will make me bias or not, but I wanted to start off with that. The menu was simple, with about 5-6 different kinds of mac & cheese. There are 2 sizes - a snack size and a regular size. The regular size filled me up. I ordered the Mac with lump crab and andouille sausage. It's definitely extra cheesy (cheese for the win!). Also, a good amount of lump crab & andouille sausage pieces. Nothing gets my britches in a twist more than an overpriced plate, or advertising toppings and only putting a small spoonful. That's not the case here. I was impressed and will keep my eye out for this food truck in my future outings. Also, the garlic Rosemary fries were perfectly seasoned. Enough garlic and rosemary mingled to make the fries super yummy. Side note - I love the name! Smart marketing on their part. Kudos!

Wasn't sure what to expect because most Mac & Cheese at restaurants is overrated. There are two sizes, a snack size and a regular. The regular is relatively large. They had 3 specials and/or Plain Mac or build you own with about 6 items to build your own. Was pleasantly surprised with my order of Prosciutto & Lump Crab Mac. The cheese is definitely a sharper cheese which made it a winner. It came with lumps of crab and crumbled prosciutto, a great combo.

Pittsburgh is a town with no shortage of really good food trucks, but Mac & Gold has long been my fav. I will walk long distances when I hear they are anywhere near downtown to indulge that comfort food craving, because they just do it so well. Before the stay-at-home order started, Mac & Gold was my last downtown lunch. That day, I had my favorite -- plain mac with roasted tomatoes and broccoli mixed in. I'm a vegetarian and my other favorite of theirs is the four-bean mac that's like a veggie taco. I've missed them over the past couple of months, so was excited to see them post on Insta that they were offering a Memorial Day weekend meal of a half tray of mac -- plain, specialty or choose your own mix-ins -- and you could even add a fresh salad, to feed 6-8 people at minimum. We ordered with convenient curbside pickup at their Babcock Blvd. location and their staffer was so nice, responsive and prompt with the order. The mac could have been picked up hot or cold; we went for cold and it was helpfully labeled with heating instructions, with the panko bread crumbs on the side, and tastes just like it came off the truck. The salad could not have been more generous, beautiful or fresh, with a big container of yummy, tangy balsamic dressing. We have been eating this all holiday weekend long; at $35 for the mac and $20 for the salad, what a great value over what could have been one takeout meal. They are available most days for curbside pickup at that same location and for delivery via Uber Eats, I think it is. Check their social for the specs and get your comfort food on during these trying times.

I have had my eye on this place FOR EVER. Over the weekend, I was finally able to check it out during a food truck roundup at The Coffee Buddha. When I read the words "bacon, mushroom & jalapeno mac", I about fainted. Of course I had to get it. I placed my order, was given a number & waited about 10 minutes for the food (not bad at all). $8.50 is a little steep but it was a large portion of mac & they were VERY generous with the shiitake mushrooms, thick bacon & jalapenos. It was delicious.... I'm drooling thinking about it. It was definitely spicy- the bacon was even spicy.. but it was SO good & very filling. I was only able to eat about half of it, since I had also ordered other food items from other food trucks. The leftovers were just as good the next day.I will continue to stalk their twitter & will be visiting them again asap.

I stumbled across Mac & Gold at the Neighborhood Flea in the Strip. I knew of Mac & Gold by reputation and am glad I got to visit during my final PGH hurrah. It is an easy and unequivocal rating of five stars. No doubts or hesitation.I ordered a side salad with ranch. The salad was baby greens, grape tomatoes, and some fantastic ranch.I also got one of their daily specials with asparagus, tomatoes, and spinach. The mac part is thick twisty noodles that are toothsome and satisfying. Their cheese sauce is thick, rich, and the best I've ever had. It is a smooth, well-bound consistency with no hint of the oily separation that plagues so many mac-n-cheese sauces. The asparagus was fresh, and a good balance of crisp and tender. The tomatoes were beautiful and flavorful smushed orange balls. It was a wonderful combination.

Wait, there's no reviews for The Mac & Gold Truck yet?! Well allow me to fix that. The Mac & Gold Truck is fantastic - their food is a MUST and it might very well be my favorite local food truck. The concept is pretty simple - you walk up to their truck and order either one of their special mac and cheese recipes for the day, or a standard order of mac and cheese with optional additional toppings (such as chicken, bacon, tomatoes, broccoli, mushrooms, onions). Pretty soon you get a hot creamy box of mac and cheese back and your meal is served! It's simple and delicious comfort food at its best. Depending on how many toppings you get or which special you order, your total meal price can range from $5 to $10+, which is totally reasonable in my book. The best part is that if you can't quite finish off your mac and cheesy goodness, you can take the cups or containers home with you. They're totally transportable and not nearly as messy as you'd expect a mac and cheese container to be.Two thumbs up from me - definitely start tracking them on their social profiles so you can catch them at a street near you soon!

Since we are in the middle of a Stay at Home Order, I had Mac & Gold delivered for lunch. The food was still hot from the truck.I appreciated the uniqueness of macaroni & cheese with crab, spinach, and a balsamic glaze. I really enjoy a play on sweet and salty and the glaze was great on the savory macaroni and cheese. The macaroni was cooked well, but the cheese sauce wasn't very flavorful and very runny, to me it was similar to cafeteria style macaroni and cheese. With that being said I completely understand the limitations of making food in a truck.

This was my first time trying this food truck. I thought it was really good. I had the crab and prusciotto (? Spelling) special. My only wish was there were more crab in it! Quite tasty though. My husband had the broccoli/cauliflower mac n cheese. There was a long line but they had a great system where they gave you your number for your order. It went very smooth. Will be returning.
