The Johnston House

This is such an elegant and charming place to get afternoon tea and it's better than any I've been to in the Pittsburgh area! It is by reservation only, which is done online and you pay online ahead of time as well, which makes for enjoyable experience the day of, not worrying about the check, tip, etc. You get unlimited tea, and there are hot and iced varieties. I started with the mango passion fruit green tea and then finished the experience with the iced raspberry hibiscus -- you can switch it up as much as you want. The savories consisted of a red pepper quiche, spinach artichoke cups, cucumber Boursin sandwiches and almond chicken salad croissants. The standard tea includes one scone per person and I highly recommend ordering extra -- they're phenomenal and are served with strawberry jam and clotted cream. Our desserts were a raspberry lemon pound cake, chocolate and vanilla macarons and a vanilla custard in a pie crust cup with a fresh raspberry on top. Everything was amazing and they rotate menus seasonally. Children are permitted but it's the same menu and price for them, just FYI. I'll definitely return and recommend to others for special occasions or no occasion at all.

I've never been to a tea house so I was really looking forward to this adventure with my friends. We had such a great time. The place was beautifully decorated for Christmas. We all tried several teas which we all enjoyed. The food, also gluten free food, was all delicious. Staff was courteous.

What a great experience here at The Johnston House. My mother, two sisters, and Nonna came here for lunch on a Sunday. The building is well kept, the staff are kind, and the food is absolutely delicious. If you plan to dine here, be sure to make a reservation on their website!When you are seated, you get to choose from a list of hot, cold, caffeinated and non-caffeinated tea. Your waitress will bring your table milk, sugar, and your own little tea pot with hot water that is the perfect size for two cups of tea.The set menu includes savory and sweet items. The first course items on the bottom plate are a cucumber sandwich, quiche, pesto artichoke pastry, and a chicken salad croissant with an almond crust. The middle layer is a plain scone which is paired with strawberry jam and a whipped cream. The top plate holds the dessert portion. This included a sweet pastry, chocolate mousse cup, and orange cranberry bread. The bread flavor changes throughout the year.The Johnston House also hosts events like bridal showers and baby showers. This is a venue where alcohol is not permitted, so it is perfect for a relaxed, intimate event.I can not wait to be back for my sisters baby shower in a couple months!

This visit to The Johnston House for High Tea was an afternoon I had been anticipating for awhile. TJH came highly recommended by several people and it did not disappoint. I booked a 90 minute high tea slot for me, my mom and aunt. What a lovely afternoon! Not only is TJH a beautiful property, the staff is very friendly and attentive as well as the tea selection being extensive. The food is sooo good! Who would know you could get full from small finger sandwiches, quiches, and desserts?! We had such a lovely time and ended it with a tour and some purchases-ornaments and small gingerbread houses for some additional Christmas decor. I can't wait to go back!

Love everything about the Johnston house! Most recently went for a holiday tea and the decor was so beautiful.

Wonderful Staff and Delicious Food! The ambiance was perfect for an afternoon tea. We can't wait to return.

Total disappoint for the price! It was not up to any other High Tea I have attending in and around the Pittsburgh area.Had trouble making reservations then was informed no cancellation, mush pay in advance including the tip.The place was pretty and service was attentive but was surprised to see they only used tea bags, no brewed tea. The sugar was in packets instead of cubes (that all other High Tea shop use).50% of the food did not seem made in house. The jelly for the scones tasted like it was from a jar, one of the mini puff pastries served with the sandwiches seemed like appetizers from Sam's club. There was also a filled chocolate cup for dessert that it too looked like it was bought premade.I know costs are crazy and getting help is hard too but the quality of the food should come close to the cost of the event.

The service and the food was excellent! We had a small hiccup happen while we were there and they handled it beautifully and with great business sense. We will go back for sure. It's. a great place to have a special day with a friend, daughter, or granddaughters. Enjoy:)

It's a girly place to go but their prices have gone WAY up . I thought some of their selections seemed to be from purchased frozen items. Just my opinion.
