The Gateway Cafe

We were attending a volleyball game and one of the locals suggested this place. Omg not disappointed at all!! This place was the bomb! I'm obsessed with beer cheese and they have such a good one. Now the pizza was probably the lowest point of the meal cause it's not a fresh dough you can tell but man the burgers are a must must try!

Food was pretty good. Server was friendly. Not as lively as I was hoping to see with the ambiance but I came on a weekday.

For real, they put fries on salads!! It's a DuBois thing, and I'm all for it. The footlong fried fish sandwich is also for real. This is a nice place to eat. They celebrate their history, which is nice to see. Tons of options on the menu. Service was easy and paced well. I was disappointed it took ten minutes to tell me they were out of what I ordered, but I had a backup plan for that. Overall, a great experience with good prices.

I order the crab roll well while seating there I look downstairs they had one guy rolling them and had another guy taking to kitchen both had no gloves on so being touch two times bear hands. Then told one waiter about it she said she would take care of it. Well they shut the door so I couldn't see them. So good fix on there part. The meatloaf was spicy and mash potatoes was blaine and vegetables was cold.

Why five stars? First, this place was open when we were hungry! I know it's a small town, but it is near a major interstate - most restaurants were closed on the Tuesday we made our stop.Second, the meal was a great value - especially in this time of inflation. I highly recommend the crab cakes. I know, not Maryland, but they were really good and about a third of the price you'd pay in Baltimore.Third, the service was the best! Our waitress was the most attentive I've had in probably a year or two.Great place!

Food was delicious and the waitress was on point! Plus it's a great place to to travel to North Carlin karaoke I won an award 10 years ago

This is only getting a three because of the time it took to get some of our food and the craziness of the night. We went here on a Saturday night, and we only had to wait about 10 minutes for a table. We noticed a lot of people were there, and many of the parties did not have their food when we sat down. One of the people in our party ordered a steak salad, another person ordered the crabcake appetizer and a bowl of soup, and the last person just ordered the crab cake appetizer. It took 30 minutes for the soup to come out, which I think is a little bit crazy. The rest of the dinner came out between 10 and 15 minutes after that. All of our food was really good, but the management of the tables, the food, and the wait time made this only a three star.

Food was very good. We had the soft pretzel appetizer with cheese, Philly cheesesteak, soup, pirogies and kielbasa. They were understaffed so service was slow, but we'd gotten an appetizer so the wait didn't seem as bad.

We made it to the area to attend our first Ground Hog's Day event in nearby Punxsutawney, and had a room in DuBois. We found The Gateway Cafe as a recommended casual dinner place. It was a Weds. night so karaoke was a pleasant find.Most tables were occupied with 2 friendly wait staffers working the room. They did their best to attend to customers.I ordered the drunken cheese burger - it was huge and delicious. My wife ordered the shrimp salad. It was loaded with more than the 10 shrimp described on the menu. We each had a beer and it made for a fun and memorable evening.

This is the $17 steak tips. Never again will I waste my money on this place. Also burnt pizza ????
