Been coming here for over 15 years and am constantly impressed with the quality, portion size, variety and pleasant staff. When I visit my hometown I always have to stop in for the clams, haddock or a combination platter...the sides are also amazing... secret Yugoslavian family recipe pierogies (come just for these sometimes)...now I want to go back and I just ate there last evening. lol

Had them deliver my food to my house, it was nothing but dog. I called to get the food rectified owner was very belligerent and told us it was perfectly good food and we should just eat it! He told us they had a new oil so it will not brown and he was not saying out his driver again cuz it was too hot!!! He also yelled at my elderly mother that it was not his fault so he shouldn't have anything to do about it. One star will never go here again stay away like the plague or in this case the coronavirus!

I stopped in Monday because a client suggested we meet there. I came in an hour early and had lunch before the client arrived. I always do this as a way of "paying" for my booth space when I am meeting someone primarily for business. I need not have worried about taking up the space, I was the only one in the restaurant. The lunch I had was mediocre at best and totally overpriced, it was the fish dinner. My client arrived, I bought him a drink and we talked for about an hour. When we were done, I was there for a few minutes getting my stuff together. Dave (the owner?) then shouted over that he should charge me rent for office space. He didn't have time to come over while I was eating to see if everything was ok, but he had time to make a sarcastic remark! It was not done in a humorous manner, it was mean spirited. On Wednesday I stopped in with a business partner of mine. Dave was in the middle of a conversation when an employee asked what she could do for us. I asked to speak with Dave. The employee told him I wanted to speak with him. He immediately turned his back to us and continued the conversation. After he was done talking he walked off into the back room, never acknowledging that we were there even though he knew we were patiently waiting to speak with him. I don't know if he is just rude or if it is something else. This may not be important, I am white, but the client and business partner are both black. No matter what the reason, I will never step foot in the place again and I will encourage everyone I meet to never go there! Dave's behavior is totally unacceptable!

The Fish Boat has been a family owned seafood restaurant since 1957. It is also a seafood market where they specialize in selling fresh fish and shellfish by the pound. How in the world they get their selection of fresh fish in Johnstown is a mystery to me, however it looks fresh and firm and I would be willing to try it as I watched quite a few folks walk in and go straight to their fish on ice and order beautiful filet's of fish and shellfish to take home and prepare. I for one have become a yelp whore and I am anxious to check out places just to review them, there I admitted it, I am a glutton for spreading the word and being rewarded by comps and ufc's. I no longer cook, I eat out seven days per week and the family and friends get to share in my adventures. Seriously, I was so hungry for a good fried haddock hoagie and I was not disappointed! The haddock was dipped and fried until crunchy but moist and delicious, it was a huge thick piece that was then laid on a soft six inch roll lathered with tartar sauce, topped with cheese, lettuce, pickles, onions and tomatoes. This happened to be the special of the day so I got cole slaw and fries with it. They serve sandwiches or Ala carte items, boats or dinners of a variety of fresh fish, plus crab cakes, salmon cakes, fried flounder, perch, oysters, fish cakes, tuna on toast, soft shell crabs, shrimp, scallops, clam strips or you can opt out of the sea and pluck a chicken breast, tenders or wings. They have a nice variety of sides, cole slaw was okay, they slice and batter their own fried zucchini which was okay, the have frozen french fries, baked potatoes, but I opted for their homemade pierogies and these were very good. The also offer noodles and cabbage which was basic, I kick my own up a few notches with bacon, Swiss and parmesan cheese and sauteed onions. The mac & cheese is not much different than you would find at KFC or Popeyes. They have both NE and Manhattan clam chowder as well as Maryland crab soup, I ordered a half pint of the white chowder, the diced potatoes were still raw and swimming in a thin bland milky broth, with not many clams, onions or celery. I would not order it again. Their salmon cake and crab cake are very minced meat, no chunks and the crab was deviled. Both were deep fried and tasty, but not what I was expecting, for the low price, I should have known better. They also go under the name of H&H Caterers, so therefore you can order party platters here of steamed shrimp in bulk or anything else you see on the menu for that matter. They are a restaurant, retail and wholesale for a complete line of seafood. I would go back again for the haddock hoagie and the homemade pierogies and the original nostalgia of the restaurant with the cool murals and spin on a stool at the very long counter or grab a table just to people watch. It's a pretty cool scene.

So I'm in town visiting my sister. I decide to take my nephew for lunch and being from outta town I did a quick google search and came across @The Fish Boat". A family owned restaurant that had been here for decades. I figured if it had been here this long, it must be pretty good, right? Well, I was NOT disappointed. Very good fresh fish and sides. The owner was behind the counter and he and his staff were very friendly and the customer service was superb! Highly recommend and I'll definitely stop in next time I'm in from California.

I have been wanting to visit this family restaurant for a long time. Although I really didn't want to go anywhere, I decided to help out our local businesses during COVID-19 and ordered the crab cake, fish sandwich, hush puppies and cole slaw for pickup. The man who took my phone order was abrupt and almost rude. But considering the current state of our country, I realize tensions are high and nerves are raw. When I went in, I was the only one there but not one of the 4 people working acknowledged me for a good 10 min. Not a hello, smile, NOTHING. Like I was rude for ordering food. The workers seemed irritated with each other too. It was downright unpleasant. Then the food. I have to say it's painful for me to give a local establishment bad ratings but the food and service are awful. I may be laid off due to COVID and this is my hard earned 30 bucks for an absolutely awful lunch. The slaw for the Cole slaw was mushy like it was made in a blender. The hush puppies tasted old. Fish- tasteless and also mush. Crabcake had one noticeable piece of crab in it. Also mushy. Sorry but we will never return.

If you like to eat cat food in a dirty cafeteria The Fish Boat is for you!Actually, I wouldn't feed it to my cat.I thought I caught a glimpse of a large rodent but I may have been mistaken. Also, no smiles allowed as the proprietor has a penchant for dour looks and rude belligerence. Fortunately there are plenty of trash cans to dump your plate after the first yummy bite of thawed and refrozen (repeat) seafood delights! Don't know what happens to it after that but if it still looks good maybe he can make money on it twice!Enjoy!
