For our St. Patrick's Day we decided to kick off our festivities with a meal. We weren't looking for an Irish meal to partake in, we just wanted food. We were pleasantly surprised when we showed up here and found out that the days special were all Irish meals. You could choose from Shepherd's pie, bangers and mash and for the life I me I cannot remember the other. Before I get any further into the food let me do a little run down of the place. Tavern In the Wall is an apt description of this place. Most people wouldn't not look twice at this place as it fits into the street wall in Aspinwall. From the outside it doesn't look like much. When you walk inside it is vibrant. Appears to be the place to be for locals as most people at the bar talked to all the employees in here. Staff were pleasant for the most part (I caught a little vibe from one of the workers that we might have been infringing on something in here, but we were here to do one thing, eat). Our server greeted us promptly after we seated ourselves. Not being here before we were not sure whether to wait to be seated or do it ourselves. There is no indication what to do here. We parked ourselves in a booth and the server had menus in our hands and drink orders placed. We looked over the menu while we waited for our drinks and kind of decided what we wanted. When our server came back she told us of the specials for the day. With that we forgot about our menus and both ordered the Shepherd's pie. This came with your choice of soup or salad. I opted for the salad which was an impressive mix of greens, vegetables and some amazing croutons that I suspect were made in house. Great start to the meal. The Shepherd's pie then arrived. At first glance I was a bit disappointed thinking that there needed to be more mashed potatoes on top. But once I started into that piping hot boat of lamb I was persuaded that the potato ratio was the correct amount. This special really did hit the spot and made for a great Irish meal on an Irish day. Maybe next time we are here we will venture into the menu. If the specials don't deter us that is.

We are back and still a great joint to visit. The French onion soup is on point. The Tavern burger and BLT were so good. This is the kind of place that everybody knows everybody. If I lived here I would be so fat because the food is that good.

We came here after playing a tournament game in Shapsburg. I had the Tavern Burger which was ok. My brother had the fish sandwich which he said was really good. My kids ordered from the children's menu. They have a small bar and seating area. The staff was friendly and attentive.

So while the food was fine, we were here for almost 2 hours. Should have left after the appetizers. It was a cluster from start to finish. I understand being short staffed but even when other help, I assume including the owner arrived, it never got any better. While the waitress was nice enough she was not equipped to manage all she had to. Said something to the owner when 3 out 4 of the meals finally showed up and we had to wait 15 minutes for the last meal to show up. Not accountable for anything and did not offer to remove any of the bill. It will be a cold day in hell before we come back here. I eat out ot and this was the Worst experience ever.

Summary: good soup, okay food, possibly criminally bad service. Pay with cash if you must go.We went on a Friday night, and it was busy. We were seated as quickly as possible, given menus, and left to wait. And wait. And wait. Our server found it more important to chat at the bar than to see to us. We got maybe one drink refill during the whole hour and a half we were there. The soup was tasty, but the food (we had a cheesesteak and the special salmon burger) was only okay. And the "homemade" fries our server talked up I'm pretty sure came from a bag. But the true terror came when it was time to pay. Somehow, our server had charged our debit card for another party's meal. We caught the mistake before we left, but we still have over a hundred dollars worth of pending charges that we never received service for. Hopefully it'll resolve before they become fraudulent charges we have to dispute with our bank.UPDATE: the charges were successfully reversed, so we don't have to start filing disputes. Still not giving them a second chance.

So, I was excited try this place based on previous reviews. I was cautious since a few people gave subpar reviews. I now understand why. This is your typical bar/pub food, just wish the food didn't taste like frozen meat was used.I'll explain, we came within 15 minutes after opening as a party of 7 with varying degrees of preferences. After looking at the menu, it seemed like a safe choice, not to mention, after having spent a full day at the zoo, I was in desperate need of a beer. I simply figured it was a win-win.That feeling was quickly derailed. As appetizers we ordered the pretzel sticks and the buffalo chicken dip. Buffalo chicken dip was good in flavor, but could use more chicken in the dip. The pretzels were definitely reheated and lacked the traditional crisp coating a homemade pretzel brings. The tavern burger I ordered had an over cooked egg and had no runny goodness, smoked Gouda cheese and and over cooked meat patty that lacked flavor and seemed to be from a frozen patty pack. Homemade chips were ok. The philly cheese steak was also just ok. The wings were actually pretty decent, I simply prefer them crunchier, but I do enjoy they brought out the whole wing as it should be. I did enjoy their Honey Blossom Hefe beer A LOT and was glad that I had a tasty winner the first try. Also, I can speak for the customer service very highly. This is why i gave 3 instead. Quite attentive and willing to work with the demands a large group brings. However, at the end, the bill was jumbled between two tables even though we sat somewhat separate to keep the two bills easy to generate. I can understand a simple mix-up, but when paired with just ok pub food seems like the icing on an over cooked and bland cake.

A great place to grab a burger if you are in the aspinwall area. The sister and I stopped in here because they had good yelp reviews and we were getting a little hungry for lunch. Service could have been a little more attentive and they could use some better beers on tap. The portions are huge so you can actually share a plate with somebody. I ordered up a burger with bleu cheese and onions. I expected my onions to be cooked and caramelized but I got a crunchy red onion which was not what I wanted. Oh-well--there are several places in the area so I would probably opt for trying another one next time.

This is a fun, cozy, welcoming bar/restaurant with good food, good service and good people. It is oftena regular quick stop in our way to anywhere. The soups are outstanding, the specials creative and delicious. The Grille burger was my husband's birthday dinner of choice! Sam, the jovial owner, is almost always around-greeting customers, helping tend bar, supervising the kitchen. Making sure everyone feels welcome and treating the staff and customers like family. Go before 5 and say hi to Alana- the most competent, charming, and knowledgeable bartender I have ever met!

If you want fox tv and loud swearing drunks at the bar, this is the place for you. Forgot your cigarettes? No worries, second hand smoke will be amply provided from the front door. Free germs will be supplied by the staff sneezing all over the flatware and napkins as they are rolled up bare-handed. If you like a ton of salt in your food, you'll love this place! Not for me, but it might be perfect for you.
