Soul Food Connection

Every time I dine here it just warms my heart and my belly too. This is the only place that I've ever seen salmon croquettes made in this shape. They also taste the best! I had been craving cabbage and it didn't disappoint. The hop n John is always great as well. The croquettes are available on Mondays.

The man who owns this restaurant is such a breath of fresh air he's very friendly and accommodating. The catfish tasted fresh and it was fried perfectly you get 2 good sized filets in a "catfish dinner" order it also comes with 2 sides i got double mac & cheese it was creamy pretty good next time ill try something different. i also got an order of fried shrimp which comes with 8 pieces. The shrimp & catfish also both comes with rolls. All of that plus a soda came out to $33- i find that price fair especially for some good comfort food. Just keep in mind that this establishment ONLY takes CA$H!! Will be returning next time im in town!

We are celebrating my boyfriends phD defense, and the only thing he wanted was fried fish. I did some research online and decided to try soul food connection. I called a day before to get catering for 10 people. I did not give them much time and they have other catering order that day as well, but they still made this happened! We got fried fish, fried chicken, green bean, Mac and cheese, and bread. The only downside is that they do not take credit cards, but that's how you know it's good. LolAnyway, the food did not disappoint. My favorite is the fried fish personally. I think everyone agrees too. I will definitely come back again if I'm looking for soul food. I had the smothered chicken, which in retrospect I should have asked for the gravy on the side since i ordered take out. So when i got home, the chicken was not crispy anymore, sitting for so long in the gravy :( but the owner and staff were soooo nice and accommodating, i could not have asked for a better service. Food: - fried chicken: I just have to come back and try the chicken again! i was not able to really judge them since they became soggy from sitting in the gravy, but thats just me forgetting to ask for it on the side. but even when it was soggy i still ate everything - Gravy; so delicious!! full of umami and not too salty! - cornbread: probably the best i've had T.T but im also not an expert on cornbread, this just taste really fcking good to me! - collard greens and potato salad: i usually dont even finish the slides when it comes with a chicken order. however, these are a different story. even the sides are flavorful yall! I especially enjoyed the potato salad!

My favorite fried chicken in Pittsburgh. The ribs are so tender. Also don't skip the sweet potato pie!

So food-wise, this place is amazing. All of the traditional soul food classics with amazing flavor. When I'm craving fried chicken or fish, mac and cheese and collard greens? This is the spot. Plus the staff/owners are lovely to interact with. Slow, but lovely.But good grief do they need to do repairs to the restaurant itself! It's hard to ignore the peeling wall paper and crumbling ceiling, not to mention that there is an odor when you walk in the door. Best bet is to call ahead so the food is ready to be paid for and picked up as soon as you get there.

Great! I just had there food at a funeral and almost bit my fingers off. The baked chicken fell off the bone and the mac n cheese and sweet potatoes were very good. The desert was good as well. I sat at a table with various genders and ages, and there were no complaints. Even my 4 yr old inhaled the food. I'm impressed. Great service as well. Thank you black men for providing great service and great cuisine!

Love this place and they sell chitterlings year round ! They aren't on the menu but just ask !

I am a man whom absolutely loves a liver dinner with rice and gravy. I gave them a try and was in absolute heaven ...am not one to eat the whole meal but on this day I slammed it and can not wait to return.
