So, they revamped the old BlackBull Steakhouse into Smashers Bullpen Burgers and Brews. I'm giving it 3 stars to start because it's the first time we went since they reopened, and we'll try again after the "new" wears off and they sort out some of their issues. Pros:Alyssa, our waitress, was extremely nice, friendly, and very attentive, and I'd like to commend her on that because this place was PACKED. The beer cheese is excellent, and I didn't expect my burger to come on Texas toast but, overall I rather enjoyed that over the bun. My husband got the bareback bourbon pork and really liked the sauce on it. The lemonade was good. Price was it's about the same everywhere, about $40-50 for two people. A little pricey. Cons:Understaffed. There were two waitresses and it just seemed very hectic. The kitchen got backed up and it was then a 45 minute wait to everyone who came in after us. The pork on the sandwich my husband got was burnt. They said the sandwich I got was "swimming in mounds of sautéed onions" - they forgot the onions. So it was lacking a bit of flavor. The fries are absolutely bottom of the bag, over salted, and flavorless. I'll skip those next time and choose a different side. It needs some decorations and there needs to be some better seating options, either a 4 person table or a 6 person table. Not great for couples. And just a matter of personal opinion, the menu is a bit childish - I get they were trying to really go for the "country" style here, but we already live in BFE, we don't need a story for every menu item. Overall, we will try it again, and I really hope this place does do well because anyone near Rural Valley and Dayton knows we could sure use a good restaurant.

Stopped here while staying at the campground nearby. My boyfriend got the bourbon pulled pork sandwich and was so surprised at how good it was. It's definitely a local bar, but honestly so comfortable to just exist at. The service was quick and attentive and we appreciated being checked on by different staff members :)

We were out for a buggy ride Sunday and stopped in for lunch and cocktails. The owner was on hand and very thankful and personable for us stopping in. The waitress and bartenders were on point. I got the grilled cheese burger and it was fantastic. We will return! Well done!

Every menu item has some kind of story you're forced to read to get the description of the item.I ordered the meatloaf for $15. It was basically baked meat with very little if any spices or onions, peppers, etc. Quite flavorless. It came doused with gravy that wasn't made with pan drippings....brown gravy mix like the packets from Walmart.It came with a 'smashed' baked potato. Literally an over cooked baked potato that was smashed down flat. The waitress asked if I wanted butter, sour cream, or bacon bits. I asked for all 3. She asked if I wanted cheese on it also. I said yes and she asked what kind of cheese I wanted, cheddar or blue cheese. I said blue cheese. The potato wasn't warm and it apparently didn't have butter because I couldn't see or taste it and it surely didn't melt away. There was a very tiny dollup of sour cream in the center, about a teaspoon and the bacon bits were also from their latest trip to Walmart...those very fine fake bacon bits from a shaker jar. I had to send the potato back to have it microwaved and asked where my blue cheese was. She brought out a small container of cold blue cheese salad dressing. Not fresh made like you would expect from a restaurant. It was from a bottle with no hunks of blue cheese in it. Probably from Walmart also. I actually expected real blue cheese not salad dressing. I asked if it was a mistake and was assured that it wasn't. I wonder what I would have gotten if I had ordered cheddar.When I go to a restaurant and pay for a meal I expect more than just mediocrity. I want something that tastes good that will bring me back again, not something made with low quality ingredients.Sorry Smashers, I won't be back.
