R&G’s Smoke Shack

I was at Helicon Brewing in Oakdale for the Helicon Open Pinball Tournament, and R&G's Smoke Shack was offering up some BBQ for all the pinball and beer lovers. The smell of the smoke is what got my attention, as I could smell it as I was playing pinball, and it was making me hungry. At lunch time, I went out and got some Pulled Pork over Mac & Cheese, with a side of Corn Bread . . . it was pretty good. I never put BBQ sauce on my meat, as I like to taste the meat and not hide the flavor with sauce, but they did offer me a choice of sauces if I wanted it. I enjoyed my lunch. Later on, after the tournament was ending, I ordered two turkey legs to take home for myself and my wife for dinner. She is gluten-free, and Rich & Gino (R&G) assured me that most of their food was gluten free, except for the mac and cheese, and sandwich buns. In hindsight, I wished I would have gotten a side of baked beans, as they told me they were gluten free also. The turkey legs were O.K. in my opinion, the skin had a kind of sweet taste to it, but I am not a real big fan of skin, so I pulled mine off. I didn't enjoy the turkey as much as the pork, but then again, I am not a real big fan of poultry like wings and such anyway, but that's just me. Overall, I think this truck is good, and if I see them again, I will try the brisket and beans . . . Cheers!!

Operated by an experienced former restaurant manager, the staff is friendly and professional. The food is great. We had an Italian sausage sandwich and a pulled pork sandwich which were both excellent, and two sides. The Cowboy beans would take you back to an old Chuck wagon in the old West, outstanding! The Cole slaw was very good too! Highly recommend, prices were very reasonable,
