I will always LOVE Prantl's - a different location did my wedding cake! I was in this neighborhood, saw a Prantl's and knew I had to go in. I grabbed a burnt almond torte bar and a salted caramel cookie - and both were absolutely delicious. I will say, it seems everyone at this location was new and was being trained, as they were a bit slower to check folks out - having to call on others to get help. However, I'm hopeful those small things will be worked out with additional training!

Pittsburgh has some of the best bakeries - one which is VERY well-known for the almond tortes. My sister ordered me a red velvet cake for my birthday. It was an adorable Elmo themed cake. I love how perfect the cake was built and made. You can tell that the designer put effort into it ! However, I found the frosting a bit on the sweet side. I still enjoyed it !

My favorite feature of this bakery is the size of the goods. They're surprisingly big! Not enormous, but a little larger than you'd expect. I really enjoy the chocolate chip cookies, especially the red velvet chocolate chip. 10/10 recommend this one! The other bakery items are okay. They aren't bad, but they don't quite have that amazing local business taste that I was hoping for. Also, whenever I've come, the staff has been polite but not very friendly. But I usually come later in the day when even I'm tired, so I suppose they're in the same boat and I can't blame them. I'm still glad to support them in any way that I can. After all, local businesses rock!

So glad there's a Prantl's in Squirrel Hill! I love their burnt almond torte cake! This location is more spacious than their shadyside location and seems to have a bigger selection of sweets. They even have sandwiches and bread from local bakeries. I was excited to see that they have a big selection of donuts as well! Can't wait to come back and try something else!

Bit on the sweeter side with pastries. Tried their apricot almost pastry and their red velvet. Their pastry wasn't bad but nothing crave about. It was a bit on the sweeter side without much to rave about unlike the same pastry from Le gourmadine. I'd give the pastry 3/5. Like it isn't bad but not something I'd recommend to people.Their red velvet is actually disgusting. I took a bite and had to throw it away. The frosting is cream based but like it tastes like they still loaded it with sugar. What makes it inedible is the cake inside. Never had a red velvet so dry. Tastes like they used several day old bread. It just doesn't taste right. Considering it's $7 for a slice, it's got long ways to go before being comparable to grocery store or Walmart level. 1/5

I came here after reading the HuffPost article about how the Burnt Almond Torte was the "Best Cake in America". Well, that article was from 2014 and I guess that's just not the world we live in anymore. The cake was fine, no major complaints. The custard, however, was very disappointing. It was gelatinous, and kind of watery. Not the smooth creamy consistency I expected and didn't really taste like much of anything. The buttercream was unremarkable and got overshadowed by the almonds. It seemed as if these cakes, rather than made fresh daily, are stored in a freezer and then pulled out when someone orders one. I could probably bake a better one myself for far less than the $34 I paid for it. At the very least, the custard would be correct. We got a sampling of desserts along with the cake. The apple struedel consisted of underbaked dough surrounding a bunch of mush with maybe two recognizable chunks of apple. The chocolate sour cream mini pastries tasted like the canned frosting you'd find in the grocery section and not much else. The vanilla cupcakes looked nice but were overpowered with buttercream that left a bit of an aftertaste. Overall, I expected far better for the price and the reputation.I did get a loaf of marble rye, which was quite good (though it had ought to have been, for the price). Otherwise, the store seemed to be clean enough and the staff was pleasant.

I am happy to say that Prantls refunded my money for a cake that had the wrong name and birthday on it:) That's good business

A few days before Christmas I placed an order for three dozen cookies at Prantl's--the cost - One Hundred Dollars ! I cancelled the order. I went to The Cakery in West View, where I've been buying wonderful pastries since they opened. I ordered four dozen cookies for $50 and every one of the assortment was excellent--not merely good, but great.

So glad there is a Prantl's in Squirrel Hill. Pittsburgh is home to many great bakeries, but in my opinion, Prantl's is one of the most consistent and reliable if you're looking for old-school baked goods made with all the good stuff (butter, flour, sugar, etc.). The burnt almond cake is, of course, its signature item and is available in cupcake, mini-cake, and "gob" variation too. The thumbprint cookies topped with generous buttercream are also a good bet. The carrot cake is one of the better carrot cakes you will find in Pittsburgh, and the doughnuts are super fresh. The one thing I've tried there that I wasn't bowled over by was the brownie, which is too thin for my personal taste. Everything else has been stellar. I also like the fact that they usually have a 'bargain table' of some day-old or surplus offerings that are still quite tasty and good for a quick sweet treat.

Diane is fabulous! She provided me with the best customer service! Had a little issue with my online order and Diane was so helpful! She went above and beyond in remedying the problem. I've always loved Prantl's desserts, but since I've moved out of town, I only get to stop by when I'm back in town. Diane was the "icing on the cake" of today's visit and made my trip so worthwhile! I love that hometown hospitality! Thanks for the delicious treats and great customer service!
