My favorite bagel spot in Pittsburgh. As a New Yorker I have high expectations of bagels and these are the only ones I can find in Pittsburgh that have lived up to expectations. Great crunch and flavor. Always fresh coming out warm and have great cream cheese options. The staff is always kind. Ambiance is simply a take out spot and due to its popularity there normally is a line out the door, so be ready to wait. With that said the line moves at a good pace and it's worth the wait

Was the bagel good? It was edible Was it worth the wait? Not for meStood in line and overheard others talking about how these are the best bagels ever. The positive reviews had me convinced as well, which is what lead me to make the drive. Not sure I get the hype around this place. It was ok, but nothing to write home about. We stood in line for about 30 minutes on a cold Saturday morning - a seemingly shorter wait than other yelpers have reported. The bagel seemed kind of hard and not very fresh. Not soft at all. My jaw actually popped trying to bite through the sandwich.Street parking is limited. I got lucky and found a spot close by. Service was friendly enough at least. The vegan carrot lox looked delicious, but I got the classic smoked salmon. There is a small wooden "perch" outside the entrance, but otherwise there is no seating inside or outside. Really disappointed as I was expecting much better quality.

Pretty disappointed in this spot unfortunately - it has so much hype online that I tried it twice (thinking maybe I just got a bad batch the first time) but both times, it was just meh. The bagels are a bit tough and dry, and the lox and cream cheeses weren't anything special. I did enjoy the pickled peppers on my sandwich though, and thought the flavoring on the garlic & seasalt bagel was very good. Plus it's cool they offer vegan lox & the menu description of it sounded great!

I'll start with they were good but I don't get the hype. There was a line when I arrived. They weren't out of this world or in my minimal experience, like a NY bagel. Considering size, the bagels I received were small. They felt tiny in my hand? The garlic sea salt was a great flavor! I loved the crunch of the garlic and sea salt. I opted for jalapeño schmear - wasn't super flavorful but maybe my bagel flavor over powered the jalapeño. I took a marble bagel with fig and honey schmear to go for later. I'm not always on this side of town. Again, the bagel felt small in size. This bagel however was more like a NY bagel - soft on the inside with a nice crunch on the outside. I wish I would have eaten that one when it was fresh. They have vegetarian & vegan options which I loved to see on the menu! I can't speak to all of their baked goods but their GF and Vegan Brownies (not pictured) are absolutely delicious. Overall, my experience was great. Service was quick and friendly. The shop is super tiny so you're in and out which I liked. I can't say I would go out of my way to go again but if I'm in the neighborhood & have time to kill I may stumble by again.

I stopped by here a couple of Sundays ago with my wife and our twins for our morning coffee. Every Sunday morning we try to hit up a new local coffee shop and on this morning we decided to go to Pigeon Bagels. Even though coffee isn't their main attraction, they do make coffee based drinks. This store is located on Hobart Street in Squirrel Hill. It's a tiny location and so they only allow 5 customers into the store at once. We were maybe the 3rd group waiting to go inside whenever we arrived but by the time we have left there was a long line of at least 10 groups. So there can a long wait! Once inside they have an area where you can order from that has a pastry case nearby and at another counter is their espresso machine. For my bagel on this morning I went with a marble bagel with a fig and honey schmear while my wife went with a classic lox. Then we got each of our twins a giant sprinkle covered rugelach. For our coffees I went with the cinnamon honey latte while my wife went with the []. The first thing that I ate was my bagel and I enjoyed it immensely. There was a huge amount of schmear on it which I appreciated since the fig and honey in it provided a touch of sweetness. The bagel was also awesome with a nice chew to it from the exterior but a softer interior. My wife also enjoyed her lox very much and my twins gobbled down their rugelachs. So I would have to say that all of the food we ordered from here was a huge success. The coffee was no slouch either (they use RedHawk coffee) as I enjoyed the rich coffee paired with the milk with the touch of sweetness and spice from the cinnamon and honey. My wife also really her [] here too.The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. Our whole family thought that the food was awesome while my wife and I enjoyed our coffees as well.

Wow wow wow great bagels! This place absolutely lives up to the hype if you're a chewy bagel person! Their bagels have the perfect chewy texture, are nicely dense and have great flavor. I got a bagel with white fish and a plain bagel with strawberry cream cheese - both were excellent. I know people don't usually rate bagel places on their cream cheese but Pigeon has great strawberry cream cheese, it was as if they took plain cream cheese and mixed in strawberry jam - it wasn't artificial tasting like most others. I'll definitely be back!

Worth the wait every time. Go early to make the line slightly less long than if you go later in the day. Their bagels are truly so fresh so that when we waited a few hours later to have half it was not as good. Not much of a place to sit since it is so small, but great if it is a nice day and you can walk aroumd.Fair warning with the herb cream cheese is that it will have more green onion than expected, almost to the point where it overwhelms a good everything. Do not avoid the pastries in the case, they are so worth it.

If I could eat a garlic and salt bagel from Pigeon everyday, I would be incredibly happy. First, they are so fresh, soft and chewy - and when you orders schmear, they don't put an aggressive amount on, like some places. This is a very small place, so only so many folks are allowed inside. I was able to watch in immediately on a Thursday morning - but stood in line for 30 minutes on a Sunday morning. So just be prepared for that!I've had two different seasonal lattes from them and didn't love them - but I'm here for the bagels, so don't mind. They also have different pastries for sale.

I spend a lot of time in New York City and regularly stash bagels from my favorite spot there in my luggage to bring home. Talking to a local NYC transplant friend recently about few Pittsburgh bagels measure up, she asked if I had tried Pigeon. She said anytime she goes, she brings home a dozen to freeze. I knew she would not steer me wrong so, before the New Year's Day holiday, I decided to set out to fill my freezer with some really good bagels.Pigeon is a tiny spot with a few parking spots for patrons, but you will most likely find street parking around the corner. You will then wait in a short line until it's your turn to go in, as they allow five patrons in the small shop at once. The staff is so friendly, helpful and efficient. There are only about a handful of bagel types, schmears and sandwiches, so your choices should be quick. I got half a dozen to take home, a container of fig and honey cream cheese that sounded absolutely dreamy, and could not pass up a sandwich with vegan carrot lox to try. They even have a herb tofu schmear. Amazing!!The garlic and sea salt bagel combines two of my favorite bagel flavors and is absolutely delicious. Just the right amount of crunch and chewiness; this is a true NY style bagel. My vegan carrot lox, which came with red onions and capers as well, was such a treat. I've never had actual lox since I've been a vegetarian since age 5, but this had a rich savory, smoky taste, and it was clear how much thought and care had been put into the ingredients. I was so impressed with this offering, both in the fact that it existed at all and in its execution.I also got a delicious cold brew, and the first of my half dozen bagels at home was so delicious with the slightly sweet, creamy, fig-dotted cream cheese. I'm guessing you can't go wrong with anything you order here. I am sure I will be back far too often than is good for my waistline. Wonderful.
