Ordered takeaway from here. Just a takeout only spot. Very small inside. My order was ready early (nice)!! I ordered a small jerk chicken with rice & peas and cabbage. The cabbage was seasoned so perfect - I loooved it! Jerk chicken fell right off the bone and had some good heat to it. Rice was also good. I'll be back. Solid place.

Ordered through uber eats - brown stew chicken and jerk chicken were so good. Large portions and amazing flavor. Ordered a side of Mac and cheese which had a nice kick to it. Would order again

Pauline's Caribbean Soul Cuisine serves appetizers, entrees, and sides such as beef patties, veggie stir-fry (yes, vegetarian options!), brown-stew chicken, jerk salmon, red snapper, coconut shrimp, oxtail, and curry goat.I placed an order for delivery, and the food arrived on time. Honestly, my husband does not like Caribbean foods (we have eaten meals in the Caribbean many times), so he ate very little of this food. I ate nearly all of it myself. Here are my reviews for the foods and beverages:Chicken patties - 3 stars - The crust was fresh and crispy, and the filling of ground chicken and other ingredients tasted OK. Coco bread - 3.5 stars - This bread was a large size. I believe that this bread contains coconut, but it tasted similar to American-style yeast rolls.Curried veggie stir-fry - 5 stars - The vegetables--cabbage, carrots, peas, green beans, etc.--were very fresh. The curry was spicy. On the side was rice with beans that was cooked well.Jerk shrimp - 5 stars - The shrimps were fresh and were cooked well. They tasted slightly sweet and not spicy. On the side was fresh cabbage and rice with beans.Curry chicken - 5 stars - I had ordered a size large and received a few pieces of chicken. The chicken meat was juicy. I definitely tasted curry, but it was not spicy. On the side were plantains, which were fried nicely and tasted sweet, and rice and beans.Mango-carrot juice - 5 stars - This juice tasted very sweet, so it perfectly counterbalanced the spiciness from the curried veggie stir-fry.Jamaican pineapple soda - 4 stars - This soda tasted like pineapples and was good.

Delicious, delicious food. It's a small place so you really will be ordering take out. The food here is flavourful, spicy, and definitely worth a try.I got the curried goat and boy was that good. Beware that you do have to deal with some bones, but that's how I like my meat anyway (the bone gives the depth of flavour!)The only ding I have is probably the styrofoam box the food came in. It's still so jarring that I could be in one of the most tech friendly cities in the states, and still have to deal with the least environmental friendly to-go boxes.

First - I'd like to say if I could give this place 6 stars, I would. We stopped by Friday night around 7pm for dinner. I didn't realize the restaurant is more of a takeout place, they have two small tables with two chairs each. I also didn't realize that they sell out! I needed to come way earlier. By the time we got there, they only had a few dishes left and unfortunately, no jerk chicken or mac and cheese which is what I was most looking forward to. Service was really quick though so we were in and out in just a few minutes. We got two dishes: (1) chicken curry, rice & beans, cabbage and (2) brown stew chicken, rice & beans, plantains. Both were excellent. I liked the chicken curry more and my husband liked the brown stew chicken more. I knew I would love the plantains but I was pleasantly shocked by how good the cabbage was. I would 100% recommend going but go earlier in the day! I am definitely going to go back so I can try the jerk chicken, patties, and mac n cheese.

Hole in the wall with yummy comfort food. This place is best for call ahead & take-out (two small tables inside and barely any space to stand). I got lunch for my wife and I on a week day and had quick service (10-15 minute wait). The decor is very bare bones too; no prices on the menu, though they do have a few pictures of dishes on the counter wall.We both enjoyed the food. Veggie stir fry was very savory with a bunch of cabbage as well as a few carrots, broccoli, and green beans. It was served over a large bed of rice with a few beans ('rice and peas'). The jerk chicken had a little kick to it, with two large pieces of chicken also over a bed of rice & peas. It came with a side of creamy mac and cheese (though you have a selection of sides to choose from). Both portions were large.

I stopped by here 2 Saturdays ago with my wife for dinner. We had both seen Pauline's Caribbean Soul Food a number of times and I had even bookmarked it on Yelp, but somehow we had never made it there. So whenever we remembered and finally ordered from here, I was excited. Pauline's is located right on Federal Street in the North Side and the inside of the shop is small with two small tables to sit at and then a counter to order your food. We had ordered by phone and so I was inside the shop for maybe 3 minutes before I headed home with our food. For dinner on this evening I decided to order the large jerk chicken with plantain and cabbage as my sides and then my wife ordered the small Brown stew chicken with plaintains and rice and peas as the side. Finally we ordered the vegetable stir fry as well in the hopes that our twins would eat something from it. My jerk chicken ended up being solid with nice flavor to it and a little spice, although nothing crazy. The plaintains were sweet and tasty and I enjoyed the cabbage as well. My wife enjoyed her brown stew chicken and plaintains while I also really enjoyed her peas and rice, which I can't say that I always do. Finally the vegetable stir fry itself was nice with lots of vegetable options and even though my twins didn't care for it (1 year old palettes are clearly not discerning), I enjoyed it.The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. Both my wife and I enjoyed our food and it's not something you can get too many places in Pittsburgh.

Love Caribbean food, and it's been a long time since I last had some so I've been craving it. Pauline's definitely delivered (both literally and figuratively). The food is homey, flavorful, and all around delicious. It's a great price as well. I ordered the chicken patty, the beef patty, and brown stew chicken (comes with 2 sides - I got rice with peas and cabbage). All of the food was great! I had originally ordered for plantains and rice with peas to be my sides, but I suppose they didn't have the plantains. The cabbage was a good substitute. It's got a mild flavor, a hint of sweetness, and it goes well with the meat. The rice with peas (black beans, really not sure why they call them peas) was also super delicious. Flavorful and plentiful. Very good, although a bit dry. The sauce from the chicken really adds to the rice so you can soak it up.The chicken itself was also high quality and comforting. Very tender meat. There were bones (I prefer boneless) but not too messy of a meal. The sauce is excellent. Nice and savory. The chicken is also served with some potatoes, which were just okay. Both of the patties were quite good. Great price at just $3.50. These were very large patties as well, more than the standard. The chicken patty was quite moist on the inside, but very crispy on the outside. It was a bit on the spicy side. The beef patty was delicious as well. It was more crispy. Both of these are great additions to your Caribbean meal. All in all, Pauline's is a great spot for Caribbean food. The prices here are very reasonable and the portions are hefty. Most importantly, the food tastes like it's soul food, like it's home made. Very good stuff.

I ordered the curry chicken and beef patties however this experience was cut short by the absence of half of the sides. It was a little past lunch so my assumption was that they ran out during the lunch rush. Let's go with that, but some plantain would have made this a 5 star. Their patties were on the mild, less seasoned side. The chicken was not dry but there could have been more curry sauce for the amount of rice and beans. Overall, I would happily return there during my next vacation.

Had the curry chicken and ox tail dinners. The rice and cabbage were very good. The chicken was ok. The oxtails were grisly, tough, and not edible.
