Party Cake Shop

It's true that Party Cake Bakery changed ownership a year or so ago. The new owners are doing their best to keep this landmark business operating. I know they, like many other small businesses have had staffing problems. At one point the head baker left and the replacement left a lot to be desired. Rather than increase prices the owners reduced the size of the servings .. this was a mistake that they have since corrected. I have been stopping often to buy breads, donuts, cookies and danish pastries and they were back to the size and taste I grew up with. I suggest giving them another chance. Staffing is still an issue so call ahead to make sure they are open when you wish to come by.

OMG. We got a pumpkin roll to take to my mom and sampled several treats for ourselves. The almond torte cupcake was ON POINT. I devoured it in the car. I seriously have no idea why there are not lines out the door here. And if you purchase pastries, the coffee is free. Seriously awesome little shop and Tara is so nice. I can't wait to come back next time I'm in town.

My daughter was celebrating her birthday, so it was my job to take care of the cake. Party Cake Shop has been our go to for cakes since our kids have been little.The shop was busy when I stopped in, (Wednesday around 9am) with customers picking up paczki and ordering other goodies. Everyone behind the counter was busy, but helpful answering questions and filling orders. The 7-inch round half and half (layer of white and layer of chocolate cake) was plenty for our group of 4. There's an information board about the different cake sizes and flavors of what's available if you aren't sure what you want or need. The cake was nice and tasty, and nicely decorated with the light, tasty buttercream frosting. We've never had an issue with Party Cake Shop and have enjoyed their donuts and paczki too.

The almond cake torte is so good. It is very moist and the icing is not heavy at all. The only thing I would recommend is almond flavoring in the cake, oh yea that would take it up another level. The almond biscotti is my all time favorite. They are not too hard, but just right. The biscotti is the best I've ever had.

I love this bakery. I have been to my fair share of bakeries in the area, and this one definitely makes the best paczki's. A paczki is a Polish donut filled with either cream or fruit filling, then coved in sugar. We arrived here around 8:45/9:00am to get only paczki's and unfortunately they only had a couple left. This was not to much of a surprise to us considering they opened at 6:00am. Once it was our turn to order, we asked if there were any more, but that was all they had at the moment. A man from the back of the bakery came out and told us they were making more and they would be ready in about an hour. I am not sure if he is the owner, but he was extremely kind and thanks to him, we placed an order and came back to pick them up.*Be sure to call and place an order a day or two in advance to be guaranteed what you want. Also, the peanut butter filling is only available if you place an order!The dough of the paczki's is very airy and soft. The cream fillings are smooth and flavorful, while the fruit fillings are just perfect. I will need to try some of their other pastries and baked goods. We will be back next year for more!

Visiting the Party Cake Shop is like reading the sweetest romance, such as If The Shoe Fits by Julie Murphy. From the storefront to the interior with glistening display cases filled with sweets (and savory options), the focus is clearly on the deliciousness.I walked in, searching for a half dozen of doughnuts to rival all doughnuts, and I walked out with that half dozen plus a pepperoni roll and an individual burnt almond torte.For me, doughnut shops (and bakeries alike) are judged by their Boston Creme doughnut. I look for one-of-a-kind doughnuts (so they're not perfect) that are plump with custard with a great chocolate frosting. Party Cake Shop did not disappoint; in fact, I'd say that have reorganized my hierarchy of doughnut deliciousness, claiming the #2 spot! Pricing is reasonable and quite good for this level of drooling goodness.My boyfriend prefers apple fritters, and he was impressed with the flavor and sweetness in ratio with size, saying usually it's one of the other -- but Party Cake Shop managed both taste and size!Just like any other doughnut consumer, I truly believe that I'm the connoisseur when it comes to Pittsburgh doughnuts so if you haven't stopped by the Party Cake Shop, you're truly missing out.Pro Tip: Create a list of doughnuts you want before you arrive at 6:20 am with groggy eyes (it's a lot to make 6 decisions that early)P.S. The Burnt Almond Torte offered a frothy sweet confection with delectably crunchy almonds, and I didn't want to finish my half of the cake so I ate it as slow as possible. I'll be back for more.

I loved party cake my whole life, however they are never open anymore? The hours they say they're open I go to get some donuts and they're closed. Why post the hours if you won't be open??

I am terribly disappointed in my last few orders. This place is struggling! Gone are the days where I had nothing but praise for this community established:(

This place used to be great. Apparently, new owners took over a while back. With today's prices, I expect great service and great products. Receiving a decorated cake that looks like a child made it made me decide to never go back. It's just a matter of time before this place goes under. Very sad.

I loved party cake my entire life so it makes me incredibly sad to write this review. I used to get a free cookie as kid every time I came in with my parents, the ladies that worked there were the best, and baked goods were delicious. So I really cherish this place. I will gladly change this to five stars if their quality and service returns to former years. The reason for this bad review is that we have ordered and paid ahead for specific items. Not only were we given the wrong items but we were given old/frozen/thawed items instead. This has happened multiple times, with no apology or reimbursement.
