Small chicken lo mein
Centre Ave

Decent place to get take away that's super close to our house. There isn't anything remarkable about the food and that's just fine if you want a quick fix of Chinese food.If you're looking for the basics then hands down this is the place for you.Service is ok as well. Not at all bad but also not at all outstanding.

Enjoyed our chicken lo Mien (lots of flavor) and Szechuan chicken (could have been a tad bit spicier). Cashier was polite. Food did not take long to prepare. We will be going back!

Needed to order lunch super quick. This place was definitely quick. I ordered the chicken with mixed vegetables lunch with hot and sour soup and added an egg roll. They did not add any wonton strips for the soup. I chose fried rice instead of my normal white rice. I chose poorly. The rice was half cooked and instead of fried rice, it was rice with soy sauce. I will choose my normal white rice from now on. The soup was also a bit too oily for my taste so another soup next time. But it's a great place if you only have 15 minutes.

This place does not deserve the hate! It gives off strong family business vibes. We ordered for their lunch special and were pleasantly surprised. The quality is pretty much what you'd expect from Chinese-American takeout, but the portions are pretty big and cheap, especially if you go during lunchtime. The "fried rice" isn't actually really fried rice (it's just rice and soy sauce) and the noodles were a little overcooked, but overall great experience. The sauces on both of our dishes were flavorful and the veggies were fresh. We also enjoyed the bbq pork in our house chow fun. Fast service and nice people. If you're looking for takeout in North Oakland I would recommend!

Worst Chinese food I have ever had! Stay away... not kidding. The general Tsos chicken was awful. It was mushy and tough, and tasted like plastic. Ate three pieces and couldn't eat any more. I added an egg roll and it tasted like burnt fryer oil and something funky. The "fried rice" that I paid to upgrade to from the white rich was literally which rice with soy sauce. That's it. No veggies or anything. I just at an hour ago and my stomach isn't feeling too good. Im actually worried I might be getting sick from their food.

I'm sad this place is only rated 2.5 stars because I do enjoy coming here for some good Chinese-American take-out. The exterior might not be the most inviting but the price, portions and the taste of the food is really good. * Food: As good as Chinese-American food can get. I usually get the classic Chicken and Broccoli and I am always satisfied. Their General Tso's tofu and Orange Chicken is pretty good as well. * Price vs Worth: I like how they have an option of Small ($6-$7) or Large ($9-$10) because I personally don't like to have leftovers so a small portion is perfect for one meal. You also have the option to pick white or brown rice as well! It is definitely worth the price. Will I come here again? - DEFINITELY!

This place is not good, I cannot trust these types of places anymore. The crab Rangoon was unlike any I have ever had (not in a good way) tasted like trash. Chicken was mushy and weird, when I walked in no one was there... not shocking, my first ever yelp review because of how bad my experience was. Never go here. Just hoping I don't get sick from the food at this point. Negative stars

The New China Inn is my favorite restaurant in Pittsburgh! It is a family-owned and operated business in a very convenient location in Oakland on Centre Avenue with an extraordinary Menu of healthful Chinese foods at very reasonable prices. Being vegetarian, I am amazed at all the many vegetable and tofu dishes available in addition to all the chicken, meat and seafood dishes on the menu. And I especially love the great variety of soups, such as Egg Drop Soup, Vegetable and Bean Curd Soup, and my favorite, Japanese Miso Soup. The Luncheon Specials are served until 4 pm every day.I highly recommend this restaurant to everyone who loves great Chinese food at affordable prices. And if you don't love Chinese food yet, you will after a visit to New China Inn in Oakland! Whether it's takeout, delivery, or eating in the restaurant that's your preference, the food is always great, served or delivered nice and hot, and cooked with just the right amount of spices to please everyone.

I did not expect authentic Chinese food here bc it looks like a Chinese-American place. But I loved the fried pork rib here! Every once in a while I have to come back for it. Very tasty and cheap. And one portion of it feeds me for two meals! I would recommend to try out some authentic Chinese food here as the negative comments are mainly about Chinese-American food. You won't regret! (Not the beef in Szechuan sauce though. It doesn't taste like what you would get in Szechuan, but they make it tasty in another way).

Downloaded Yelp to write my first and last review of this restaurant...Dining area is littered with trash and leftover food and my one order of general tso's took 25 minutes when I was the only customer. After waiting almost half an hour for my food, it was mushy, undercooked, and still partially cold. Worst experience of my life.
