Merante's Bloomfield

BEST Pasta Fagoli!!!! I haven't tasted it this good for 20 years since Great Granma from Sorrento made it! Found this hidden gem during Bloomfield's Italian Days and I bought quite the variety of Italian Homemade cookies that remind you of the Wedding Cookie Tables. Excellent store!!

Found this place living at children's hospital, everyday I just wanted to leave and go here. Never knew what the menu would be like you would just have to go and see for yourself. Something new always. My husband swears they have the best wedding soup hands down. Im completely obsessed with the carrot cake and I will never be able to go or get it anywhere else. Best carrot cake ever! The staff and owner are super friendly and very easy to talk to. Need a laugh they chuckle and make the day a little brighter. I wish this place was a little closer to home we have Maria's dinner every other night. We will definitely be back and can't thank you all enough for everything the last few weeks. Oh and the pasta spaghetti so good with the meatballs. I just want this place every day. Maria your a gem we love the babies Italian meatball Bib- Sam & Day.

We have tried this place a few times now. They offer daily meal specials. We found out that you have to go early or call ahead to reserve your order. A couple times we tried going there and they were completely out of the daily specials. Most of the entrees we have tried have been good. Lasagna, rigatoni, meatball bread, and butter chicken come to mind. We tried the turkey dinner once which was ok but small for the price. They also offer baked goods and cookies. Service for the most part good. Parking lot nearby in the back which helps you get a spot to park.

Delightful!! Had lunch at Merante's each day during Little Italy Days. Maria is an amazing cook! Best ever gnocchi, eggplant parm, stuffed shells and don't miss the cannoli!! Cute shop, awesome food and very welcoming owner. I'll be back for the daily specials!

I was introduced to this place while on a food tour last year. Went back to see what goodies they had. They just made wedding soup and it was the BEST soup I have had. Also picked up breaded butter chicken and pasta primavera. This place is amazing!! It feels like you are walking into grandmas dining room. You can feel the love that is placed in the food. They also have other gift items you can purchase. Check them out!!

Delicious home cooking that tastes like your Italian Nonna's. I recently discovered Merante's while walking through Bloomfield during lunchtime. At first I thought the store was just gifts, but the delicious smells drew me inside. The back of the store is a full-blown kitchen stocked with any number of delicious delicacies. My personal favorites include: sausage stuffed peppers, ribs and liver and onions (yeah yeah I know...). The prices are reasonable and the portions are HUGE. I should also mention that the staff incredibly kind. Merante's food is made obviously made with love.

Best biscotti in PGH, hands down!Once upon a time, long, long ago, my former lab manager, who lives in Bloomfield, brought in some treats from this store. Specifically, he brought in a lb. of biscotti and a half dozen peanut butter cookies. Like the hungry wolves we are, my labmates and I devoured them post haste. The cookies were pliable, moist, and rich, and the biscotti was even better than Enrico's (gasp!). Quite impressed, I promised to check it out for myself sometime soon.Fast forward a year or so to this past weekend, and I finally stopped by while in the vicinity to pick up dinner supplies nearby. I ordered a half pound of biscotti ($5), consisting of double chocolate, chocolate hazelnut, vanilla, and cherry. Unfortunately, at the time of my visit, they didn't have lemon, which I tried and loved previously. I also wanted to try the chocolate torte, but unfortunately, they were unable to remove it from the mold on demand. The biscotti was as delicious as I remembered, justifying the trip.Service from the woman at the front (Maria, I believe) was super friendly and extremely apologetic about not being able to sell me the torte. I'll have to come back to try it--based on the biscotti and cookies, I have no doubt that it's delicious!

Tremendous food in high demand! I've never had a bad bite of anything originating from this shop; very reasonable; staff is like family!

Very rude lady that runs the place.This is only my opinion, but it seems like she is extremely selective in who she weighs it in her place of business. Once I went to get a couple of chicken wings. They were super delicious. A couple weeks later I went to get two more. She refused to sell them to me. She said you have to buy in 6. Okay I fully respect that. She told me that styrofoam container causes more than what's a chicken cost. That i did not beieve.The reason why I wanted to Wings is so my friend could try them. Her daughter will be getting married. She was hoping to buy maybe 250 chicken legs from this place. She was even hoping to consider and seeing if this later does actually cater entire meals.I have lived in Bloomfield for almost 40 years. I know a lot of the people who owns stores there. But I have never really felt welcomedin this store.
